[And the night has arrived! Dorian put out an open invitation, and anyone who is interested is welcome to dress up and meet up for a night of dancing and fawning over each other. Make sure to wear your best, everyone! It's a very special episode of Drift Fleet!]

((OOC: There was an open invitiation, but even if your character never replied or has had personal contact with Dorian, feel free to assume he's let them come along or be dragged along by someone else! I'll be tagging some threads, but if you want a thread to be closed, please just say so in the header.))

[He doesn't know quite how to react to that at first, so he defaults - what would Dick Grayson do? he lets the smile go just a little wider, guessing at the right response.]

That's okay. I don't smile that often.

[ Ohh... that doesn't help. She titters, still blushing. ]

...Uhm, I'd love to dance with you-- if I really believed you knew how.

[ She's doing so well. As in not at all. ]

You don't think I know how to dance?

[There's a warmth of challenge in his voice, and his eyebrows raise just a little.]

The first time I left the First Breath after getting here, it was to go play dance instructor. You might be the first queen I've danced with, Your Majesty, but I promise, I don't step on toes.

[He holds out a hand.]

[ She doesn't even hesitate, taking his hand and moving in close to him. One corner of her lips curls upwards in a little smile. She has her own competitive streak and he's just feeding it with a tone like that. ]

You're not even the slightest bit intimidated then to be dancing with, what I'm sure to you, is a fairytale queen?

Cecil, I respect you. But if you'd ever danced with Koriand'r of Tamaran, you'd know that there are far more intimidating dance partners.

[He executes the first steps perfectly, with martial poise, feeling out the steps, whether or not they both began expecting the same style. He's not Cass, but he's mimic enough to read her movements and still keep the lead while matching her.

[ Just to be difficult, she makes a conscious choice to make it as challenging a set of dance-steps to follow as she possibly can, falling into one of the more complicated dances of Baron. Cecil herself moves at all times with a natural sort of grace that makes her seem otherworldly and, if anything, dancing only makes her seem to practically float on air. She moves with practiced ease and doesn't even seem to be trying all that hard in spite of the complex steps. ]

Hmph, well, you might be darling to look at, but you're no Ambassador to the Fey yourself.

I wouldn't presume. But I do okay.

[He focuses on the dance, rather than trying to decipher her sudden - is it flirtation? Maybe it's just ballroom manners.]

[ Either way, she doesn't seem too impressed with his dancing, but he's just good enough for her to feel a little put out that he's not awful. After all, she can't rightly tease him this way and it means that she probably isn't particularly impressive herself with her own skills. Suddenly, she's not even sure why she agreed to dance. Dancing has never been her preferred way to pass time and she can only say she truly enjoyed it with a few people...

She frowns. She can't remember one of her favorite dance partners from Court. ]

Is something wrong?

[ She shrugs a shoulder. ]

Everything is wrong. It can't be helped.

Specifically, I just found another hole in my memory. That's all.

[ She says it like it happens very often-- because it does. ]

Not exactly a party. Do you want to stop dancing?

[proteusmoon]

I don't just choose to dance with anyone.

[ Well, not normally, but she stops dancing, pulling away a little bit and smoothing down the skirts of her dress. ]

I don't think I'm a particularly impressive partner anyway.

[detectivewonder]

I'm not sure I'd agree with that.

[He steps back, watching her cautiously, curiously, waiting for another reaction, or a cue as to what he should do now.]

[proteusmoon]

[ She's probably not much help.

All she does is look away, stepping back from the crowd of dancers on the floor. She sighs. ]

All of this reminds me of... of home...

[detectivewonder]

That... that's not easy.

[He's been avoiding thinking about it himself, dances he went to with Dick grinning at him, needling him, pushing heiresses at him.]

No, not exactly. But then nothing is now, is it...

[detectivewonder]

Not here.

[proteusmoon]

[ She shrugs a shoulder, uncomfortably this time, then decides to change the subject. ]

Anyway, you're awfully cheerful. I don't think I've ever seen you in such high spirits before.

[detectivewonder]

It's... as much as I hate them being kidnapped, it's good to see familiar faces here. And it's good to have a chance to unwind.

[proteusmoon]

Oh? Have you met up with your sister here then?

[detectivewonder]

That's right.

[proteusmoon]

And? How's it going?

[detectivewonder]

So far? Well. Really well. If we can get the right augments to the ship, she'll transfer over next month. She and Steph both...
