THE GALA ON ADSUM (Mingle Log)

[And the night has arrived! Dorian put out an open invitation, and anyone who is interested is welcome to dress up and meet up for a night of dancing and fawning over each other. Make sure to wear your best, everyone! It's a very special episode of Drift Fleet!]

((OOC: There was an open invitiation, but even if your character never replied or has had personal contact with Dorian, feel free to assume he's let them come along or be dragged along by someone else! I'll be tagging some threads, but if you want a thread to be closed, please just say so in the header.))

So... it's like Paradisa existed out of time? A pocket dimension?

[Adachi may not always look it, but, when he gets a chance to show off and try to sound smart, he'll take it. Especially if there's an attractive girl to impress.]

Could this place operate the same way?

[It seemed possible. Time did operate differently during space travel, right? But that would mean time was going by faster back home? Agh, Adachi was trying to remember everything he could from his school studies. It'd been a while since he needed to have any sort of space-related expertise.]

Something like that.

[ Sadly, she is not all that impressed by him knowing the terms that were frequently thrown around in reference to the place. ]

It seems like it may be possible, but we also have some cases -- like myself -- of people coming directly from other similar places, so we don't exactly know if the case is the same there.

[Well, clearly this girl is fairly hard to impress. Yet, for Adachi that was more of a turn-on then anything. He'll keep his intentions PC for now, but there was a part of him that was becoming rather interested in Ino.]

Man, this whole fleet is just one big mystery isn't it? No one knows whose really behind it all. The only thing we have is a name, Atroma, but it could refer to only one person or a bunch of people. No one knows why any of us were chosen to be trapped here. No one's even sure we're actually being filmed for some TV show. To top it all off, the whole "earn enough ratings and earn your freedom" bit is likely a big lie too.

(ooc: I apologize for any skeeziness on Adachi's part.)

That's how it goes. At least the people behind this one talk and respond in some way.

[ She gives him a bit of a look, though. Some cynicism about the system set up here is expected, but she has a feeling that being so obvious about how they feel isn't the best idea. It's not that she disagrees, but when she's most likely being watched ... ]

Well, we won't know until we get the chance to investigate more. It's a bit hard to say either way when we're trapped on the ships and wherever they decide to dump us.

[Adachi notices the look, and he takes the hint. He sighs. He's been trying to investigate on his own up to this point, and the fact that he hadn't gotten as far along as he would like has been frustrating him. He needed to reign himself back in though. Still, he was beginning to doubt whether or not they were actually being filmed at all.]

So there are people investigating? I was a detective myself back home, maybe I can help?

[ Well, at least he seemed to get the hint, and was willing to help. She'll tuck a stray hair behind her ear before she continues ]

Everybody can help. Just keep your eyes peeled for anything that might give us the opportunity to meet Atroma, whoever they are.

["Meet Atroma?" Pfft... Adachi doubted it'd ever be that easy. But then... an idea occurs to him. He doesn't know yet if Ino's the best person to share it with, so for now he'll just keep it to himself.]

Sounds easy enough. I'll keep my eyes open! [Adachi says these two lines with as much bravado as he could without sounding like some kind of cartoon.] Supposing I do find something though... what's the best way to get ahold of you?

[Yes, Adachi may be cruising for a number (did they even have those?).]

[ She comes from a shonen cartoon, everyone she knows sounds like a cartoon! ]

I'm the captain of the Three Twins, so you can always contact the ship and I'll respond.

[It wasn't exactly a personal number, but Adachi'll take it. Interesting though, Ino would make the second female captain that Adachi's met, counting his ship's own. Were there any male captains?]

Three Twins. Got it.

[Adachi decides to try and steer the conversation back towards Paradisa. He still has some blanks he'd like filled in about that place.]

So you knew Nanako-chan, but you didn't know me at all? Did Nanako-chan and I not come to Paradisa together?

[ She shrugs ]

I met a lot of people. I was there for almost seven years, and the average resident stayed for two or three months. When you've got a castle that holds a good three hundred residents or so that are constantly switching around, you don't always get the chance to get to know everybody.

[ She pauses, thinking about it. There were others that Nanako had known, though ... ]

I think a lot of Nanako's brother's friends were there, too.

Seven years? That couldn't have been easy! I mean, just seeing people come and go... all the while remaining trapped there.

[Adachi's doing his best to sound somber and sympathetic, but inside he's watching Ino's reaction closely. Trying to get more of bead on her personality.]

Wait- her brother? [Didn't Nanako refer to Yu as her "big bro?"] So you did know Yu-kun then?

[ She shrugs. It was difficult, and she'd had her share of breakdowns about it. But, she's gotten to the point while she can talk about it casually, so long as it isn't poked and prodded at too much. So long as people like Allen and Crowley are still within her reach somehow. ]

It's just the way that things worked, there. Of course it was painful at times, but at least I was able to make good memories with those people while they were there.

[ She frowns thoughtfully. ]

Was that his name? I didn't really know him. I was friends with Chie-chan and Yukiko-chan for awhile, though.

[Chie-chan and Yukiko-chan, huh? They were friends with Yu-kun. Part of his little investigation club or whatever they called themselves. Hmm... He can't imagine they would have had nice things to say about him.]

Ah, I know those girls. High-schoolers. They're friends with Yu-kun. I believe they're both fairly close with Nanako-chan as well.

[There wasn't much point to lie about his knowledge of them. The trick was going to be trying to figure out just how much those two blabbed about what went on back home.]

In fact, Yukiko-chan was directly involved in the serial murder case that Dojima-san and I were investigating back home in Inaba.

Serial murder case?

[ The answer is pretty much nothing. She knows they have their powers, but TV world and murders and such? What are those?

Either way, when he says "involved", she's sure she remembers Yukiko well enough to know that she wouldn't ever DO the murdering. So she must have been a witness, or something. ]

Poor Yukiko-chan ...

[Well now, isn't this interesting... she doesn't know what happened in Inaba.]

There were a series of grisly deaths that occurred in Inaba. I'll spare you the graphic details, [This was a party after all. What a gentleman...] but in each case the victim died under mysterious circumstances. It was pretty much all anyone could really talk about, what with Inaba being the small town that it is. I'm surprised neither Yukiko-chan or Chie-chan mentioned it. On the one hand, I suppose I could understand not wanting to dwell on something so dark.

[And now for the fun part...]

Still, I'm more surprised Yukiko-chan didn't talk about it. What with her being a suspect in the investigation... though, maybe that's why she deliberately chose not to mention it!

[Adachi pauses, then acts like he just realized he gave away a big secret.]

Ah! Me and my big mouth. Forget I said anything! I'm sure the reason she didn't talk about it was just because she didn't want to burden you by sharing something so gruesome.

[It was all too easy slipping back into this facade. Still, best to be careful. It was important to stay relatively true to what happened. After all, some of the other Paradisa veterans in the fleet might be privy to more info about the murders than Ino clearly is. However, if Adachi played this correctly, then no one would ever have to know about his real involvement in what happened.]

[ Lifts ... an eyebrow. ]

I'm sure it must have been very traumatic for her to be accused of something like that, yeah.

[ Sorry, Adachi, but this girl's from a shonen manga. She trusts her friends to the very end. ]

In any case, it sounds like the case was taken care of, mm? No use in looking back on it if it's already been resolved.

[Hmm... perceptive girl. Guess she is more than just a pretty face.]

Well, Yukiko-chan's family runs the Inn where the first victim was staying before she was killed. The second victim went to the same high school that she did. Also, she mysteriously went missing for a while around the time we started looking into her connection with the victims. Naturally, it was our duty as police to consider her a possible culprit.

[No point in deliberately misleading her about Yukiko. She clearly wasn't going to take that bait.]

But, you're right. She was ultimately cleared of suspicion when we caught the true culprit, Taro Namatame.

[Wrap the lie in a truth.]

Ah! Guess I should have led with that, shouldn't I've?

[Adachi does his best to look apologetic, while chuckles awkwardly and rubs the back of his neck.]

Ah heh, sorry.

[ This guy sure talks a lot. What did this case have to do with her, or Drift Fleet, or even Paradisa, really? She couldn't remember a Taro Namatame showing up there, either, so it wasn't as though it explained any kind of drama in that group.

She can't quite decide if this guy is just lonely and needs someone to talk to, or if he was purposely trying to get her to question something she knew ...

Either way, her demeanor remains casual, and she gives him a shrug. ]

It doesn't really matter what you lead with, if the person you're telling the story to already knows the conclusion.

Oh, you already knew about the case? I assumed you didn't since you seemed confused when I first mentioned the murders. Ah heh, sorry for talking your ear off then.

[Tch- if she already knew about it, then why the hell did she look so confused earlier? Seriously, was this bitch messing with him for some reason? Come to think of it, she had approached him out of the blue...]

I didn't, but I know Yukiko-chan well enough to know she wouldn't be behind something that awful.

[Ugh, what is with people just blindly trusting other people? If Yu-kun was here, he'd probably say something about the power of bonds. What a bunch of bullshit.]

You're a good friend Ino-chan. (Well, she does look younger than him.)

I'm sorry if I upset you by talking about Yukiko-chan in regards to the murders.

[Adachi bows formally, trying to look as sincere as possible in his apology.]
