[001 🐚 Action]

Who: Jeyne and YOU
Broadcast: N/A
Action: SS Golden; SS Blue Fish
When: Oct 23

It hadn't been a great surprise when Jeyne had appeared suddenly on the Golden. For all of her intentions of begging to be at her husband's side, she inwardly knew that she would be placed elsewhere. For the few days she had spent on the Marsiva, as well as the brief conversations she had on her strange device, she had slowly become aware of how these Atroma intended to play. Nothing was about her comfort, it was about this show that they had brought her here for.

For her sanity, and for Robb's sake, she would need to make the best of this situation and allow herself to be moved around as a pawn once more.

She had at least been given a room of her own. For the first few days, she had wandered the ship, acquainting herself with her surroundings, but only when she wasn't with her husband. Traveling between the Golden and the Blue Fish was becoming a routine for her. While she wanted to remain with Robb, she had duties to attend to and couldn't neglect her own crew.

So mornings and evenings, she would travel between the ships, slowly become familiar with the faces she passed (even if she didn't know all of their names.)

Stepping through the sealed doors, Jeyne rested for a moment, catching her breath and regaining her composure. No matter how often she passed people or walked the distance between her ship and the Blue Fish, she still managed to become disoriented and drained.

Hearing another's approach, she forced herself back into composure, bringing a smile once more to her features. "Good day," she said, turning to greet the person that had interrupted her solitude. "Am I in your way?"

"Yup, I'm glad to meetcha! Jeyne's a pretty name." Not quite the same as the Jayne she knew- and, well, her Jayne was a very muscular mercenary guy who definitely wasn't the quiet type- but it still helped Kaylee feel a bit more at ease. "I'm Kaylee. I'm the mechanic here on the Golden."

"Oh, that's a good thing." Kaylee brightened at that, though there was a bit of a pang as she thought of Simon, too... her gorgeous doctor. "You never know when one of us might get hurt or sick. Even being in the engine room can be hazardous to your health."

Kaylee thought on that second question for a moment. "Uhhh... think it's been a month now. Gosh, it don't seem like that long."

"Barriss is, too," Kaylee replied. "I'm glad of that, because from what I can tell, if you don't have someone with the right augment on board... you don't got a medbay at all. But we've got two healers aboard!"

Kaylee then sighed.

"I don't really get the whole show part, either," she admitted. "We had entertainment back home, but I don't see what's so fun about watching us go about our day to day lives."

"Yeah, and it's things like that that make me scratch my head about these Atroma folks," Kaylee grumbled. "Why wouldn't you want to have a good medic on every ship if you could pick and choose who you get to bring?"

She turned serious at the comparison, though.

"It does, don't it? Like we're some kinda circus or something... brought out to make folks smile every now and then, then caged up the rest of the time. Except you're right, though. It's been pretty peaceful since I got here, and it don't seem to me like it'd make for a nice show. Why not make stuff happen?"

"Hmmm..." Kaylee considered that. "Now, that does make sense, even though I feel like my crew's lives would be far more interestin'. Me, I've just worked on ships and engines all my life. Weren't never a solider like Mal or Zoe..."

She drifted off for a moment, listening to Jeyne.

"I ain't been here long enough to tell for sure, but I gather that things do sometimes happen on the planets," she replied. "Why, I almost got snatched a few times on that waystation. So they just pick and choose the exciting stuff that DOES happen, 'cause if stuff was happening 24 hours a day, we'd all drop dead of exhaustion, you know?"

Kaylee grinned at the compliment.

"You seem the same way- you seem to like being undisturbed and peaceful. But then again, maybe that IS why they picked us. If everyone involved was mean or trying to grab attention all the time, that wouldn't make for a very fun show, either."

Kaylee then shrugged at the first question.

"I only been here a month, so this is the first time I've landed on one. So I can't tell you that, sadly." She then grimaced at the memories. "Well, seems like there's kidnappers and slavers down there, so they see a gal like me, who's happily looking for engines parts and stuff... guess I look like an easy mark. Got saved both times, though, thankfully."

"Ain't that the truth?" Kaylee smiled back. "My cap'n back home liked things to go smooth, but they almost never did. It's how life is sometimes. And Lord, I hope not... I wouldn't see that as entertainment, but then again, there's some sick minded people out there, too."

Kaylee nodded.

"Down at the waystation, seems like there's a bit of a rough crowd. I'm thankin' my lucky stars I'm safe, too... I forget that the rest of my crew from back home ain't here to protect me."

"A spaceship!" Kaylee replied eagerly. "Her name's Serenity, and she was my favorite place to be in the whole universe. She was lived-in, had a nice homey feel, not like some of the sterile crap the Alliance had- they're our government," she clarified. "I like places that feel like home, not like... like a copy of a dozen others, with nothing unique about 'em."

She thought about the second question.

"Probably best to go with someone for now, or at least stay away- I'm definitely staying away myself. Dunno if this is typical of the waystations the Fleet visits, but best to try and stay outta trouble."

"It is," Kaylee gushed. "And she's home to me- honestly, the Golden's startin' to feel that way, too. She seems lived-in, too. Maybe not as much so as Serenity, but it's got its own charms. Its own design and layout and quirks to get to know."

She nodded to the second question.

"A little bit- lots of scrappers down there, selling whatever parts they can salvage from shipwrecks. They've built a whole hodgepodge kind of city from old ship parts. Would be nice to look at if it weren't filled with thieves and the like."

[personal profile] hot4engines 2016-11-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I hope you can," Kaylee said kindly. "Are you not used to travelin' in space? I keep forgetting that some folks never even set foot on a ship before, just 'cause it's so common to me."

She then scratched her head.

"Could be- and I know some went down to the planet to look at a wreck. It takes a couple days on foot to get there, though, so I never bothered. Figured I's more use back here."

"Wow..." Kaylee blinked. "Sorry, I'm having a hard time picturing that, to tell you the truth. I can't imagine NOT being in the sky. Been around ships all my life."

She nodded.

"Another ship like the Marsiva, I think, crashed into the planet's surface. It's long fallen apart from what I've heard, though."

"... dragons." Kaylee repeated that last word, a note of disbelief in her voice, before remembering how she'd seen Adawolfe's magic. "... You had real dragons? For real?"

Kaylee nodded.

"Don't see any reason why not. If Atroma made one ship that size, stands to reason there are others out there."

"Wow..." Kaylee sounded impressed. "And here I thought I'd heard of everything. 'course, seeing a real one would be terrible scary if they were that big."

She then considered the question.

"It's possible- and they crashed themselves on purpose to get out of it or something. I'd like to think people've found a way out in the past."
