A call in the dark
[It won't be long before the Marsiva leaves the system. Not once has the fleet's Host Ship gone near the green, mysterious planet, choosing instead to keep it only at the far edges of her reach. All the while, the party deck has remained open and welcoming, tempting passengers to stay and try their luck for last-minute prizes.
And just when it seems like the fleet may leave the Lagan system without incident- a sudden rush of energy flares out across the green planet's surface and beyond, rippling far past its atmosphere until it reaches every ship in the fleet. The energy buffets the hulls and scrambles the instruments for one or two very dramatic minutes - just as it had before, but much more powerful in its reach. The wave is still invisible, save for a confusing warp in the way light describes shapes, but those who are sensitive to various energies--psionic, magical, life-force, or otherwise--will be able to feel an overwhelming force comb through their entire being, before the phenomenon passes over and ends.
However, unlike last time, this wave of energy is not silent. Across both the speakers of every communication device and console, and in the minds of anyone sensitive to the energy, comes the message:]
Yei equoa seh ouat ti unduo ti akun. Yiat deht quoi yiat seh kiskhan. Yiaht seh yesui ti yiat seh enduan, tal yei vissai atuav yei ti esat yiat lehir hanui. Esat yiat lehir evess. Esat yiat lehir illua tal giskat deht. Wes sahat lehir enila yei, wes yei vissai seh nan sahat ista, sahat yayet quoi adaht woru vitsahn. Hanui gisketi ideht yesui ti tokia gisketi ideht uaru, tal adrifa deseht adtah.
[Those who had been investigating the wreckage's systems may notice that this message is the very same as the one coded in the distress signal. Perhaps the Virsua was trying once last time to communicate.]
[OOC: Feel free to use this post as a mingle--either for broadcasts over the network or in-person interactions. The Marsiva is still within range of the planet for another day or two, so any in-person threads can be on the planet's surface, aboard various ships or stations, or in the Marsiva's party room.
For those who had learned a translated word before, now is a great chance to put that knowledge to use!
While the mods continue to sort out the upcoming happenings with the Drift Fleet, we thought a final themed mingle would be fun to play with in the meantime. Enjoy!]

voice;
... I'm in my room.
[He glances around at said room. It's pretty messy right now, not at all how he wants Sorey to see it. Blankets on the floor, books on the bed, journals and more books scattered across his small desk. He gets as far as piling the blankets onto his mattress, and then he gives up and just sits there.]
action;
action;
[He barely looks up as Sorey walks in. He tries for a weak smile and maybe succeeds a quarter of the way. He feels so awful. He doesn't pull away from the touch, though, which is a big improvement. It means he trusts Sorey.
He shivers a little and curls up closer, so more of him is pressed against the Shepherd's side.]
... Invaded, definitely... but you felt it too, didn't you? Are you and the others okay?
Re: action;
You're having a really hard time with this. Is it because you're a mage?
action;
[He reaches up and rubs at his nose. Maybe he doesn't return the hug properly, but he's certainly leaning into it, which is just as good.]
... No. It's because of my blood. Elves are-- they're very sensitive to mana.
[He glances over at Sorey like he wants to say more, but after a moment, decides not to. Sorey doesn't need more to worry about.]
action;
action;
[He doesn't like it, not at all.]
It saw everything. Just for a moment, it...
Re: action;
action;
It judged me.
action;
action;
No, it... it was like it knew every secret I keep. I can't... can't tell you. Not yet. But it made me feel like a monster, and that is enough.
action;
Belthazar, I'm- I'm sorry. You know you aren't a monster, right?
action;
No, I... I really am. And I'm a coward because I don't want to tell you yet. You'll be angry with me either way, so I... I--
[He sucks in a breath like a sob, surprising himself, and hides his face in his hands.]
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
action;
He bites his lip because that malevolence feels familiar. It's guilt. So much of it is guilt, sick and steeped and heady and it's knowing where the malevolence comes from that really gets him in the end, because he can't help but think of his own as the darkness came around him and swallowed-
Sorey claps a hand to his mouth and looks away. Takes a few calming breaths in through his nose before turning back to Belthazar, arm still around his shoulders.]
Belthazar...
Do you want some help? I can't- I can't make any of this go away, but back home, I- What I do is I help purify people's...negative energy, I guess, to help them manage their own emotions. You aren't a monster, you know.
You're just in pain.
action;
[He lifts his head and looks at Sorey, unnatural green eyes wide and blinking. He's talking about purification, like-- oh. Oh... like when Mikleo had to have help leaving the town. He bites his bottom lip, realizing two things at once: he is a danger to Mikleo when he's out of control, and he's a danger even when he is not.]
It won't hurt you, will it? Or the others?
[He won't deny that he's in pain. And, Light, something to manage his emotions would be great right now.]
action;
action;
I don't want to make Mikleo sick. [And that's the truth of it.] Or you, Sorey.
[He's not sure what goes into purification, but it doesn't sound that bad, really. His older sister was a priest-- and his adoptive father is a magepriest, so it's not as if he's unfamiliar with that kind of healing magic.]
How does it work?
action;
Sorey hems and haws over what to say before he decides to just go with the straight version. Gentling the explanation won't be helpful to Belthazar in the least.]
Usually, it's done through battle, but that's because hellions tend to resist. I can use fire, wind or water to purify you, and it'll look like an attack but it won't leave you with any wounds. I don't know how it will feel; you can ask Nightingale, she's been through it before. But it'll leave you drained, and you'll probably be unconscious for a little while.
When you wake up though, you should feel clearer. Purification doesn't remove feelings or memories, it just helps you to better manage them.
action;
Ah... [A bit like the penance technique, then. He adjusts his robes. It's a little scary to try new things, especially when he doesn't know how it'll feel. But he doesn't want to make his friends sick. Sorey and Mikleo have both been so, so kind to him-- so patient, even though they have the worst experience with what corruption does to people.
He owes it to them to try.
He lifts his gaze, finally, and there's a determination that wasn't there before.]
I trust you.
action;
I trust you.
Sorey bites his lip, the weight of such a blatent statement settling onto his shoulders. He nods, hand still over Belthazar's.]
Okay.
Do you have a preference for which element is used? Something you find more comforting than others? [please say fire]
action;
... Water, I think.
[Given a year or two he might find comfort in fire, too-- seeing as his adoptive father is a fire mage-- but he's not quite there yet.]
If you can't do it, it's okay. I'll-- I'll try to get myself under control.
action;
No no, it's okay! And- and you really don't have to worry about that, like I said you aren't hurting anybody like this.
I just- maybe need some time. If that's okay.
action;
Okay.
[He can't help but feel like that was the wrong answer, but steeped as he is in guilt, it's hard to say.]
... Thank you. For-- offering.
action;
It's going to happen! It's- [Sorey grabs onto Belthazar's hands and holds them to his chest carefully, trying to impress upon Belthazar his own confidence.] Belthazar, I swear it. This is what I do! Just give me a little time and I promise you, I'll help you with this. You're my friend, I want to help you.
action;
Y-you don't have to... I mean... [He looks down after a moment. It's hard to look at Sorey's face when he's so honest, so endearing. It's like staring at the sun.] I know you want to help me. That's what friends do. But if my problems are too much, I can keep carrying them like I always have.
[His pale fingers tremble a little, small and cool compared to Sorey's.]
My past is something that should stay in the past. That's why I never bring it up.
