[After the mystery and isolation of their last destination, the Marsiva seems determined to head to brighter, busier territory. After a long journey through remote, nebula-painted space, speeding along at a brisk pace for the Host ship, the Marsiva brings her Fleet to a sudden and prominent point of traffic.

It seems that the Fleet has happened upon some sort of vacation destination! Maybe Atroma thinks that the passengers deserve some rest and relaxation... or just wants to distract them with something huge and shiny.

Welcome to Hotel Corona! Feel free to enjoy yourselves and enjoy the sites! If a hotel resort isn't your thing, you can head on over to the nearby planet and explore it's icy wonders.

[Kai's voice is an irritated growl.]

I'm not in trouble.

And I don't need you to start any.

[Clearly the problem here is not that Kai cannot swim. Clearly.

And to prove that he's going to...start splashing into the water, while sticking in the area where he can stand if necessary. This is fine. At least he doesn't need to rescue elfin babies this time around. ]

I am not.

[ So serene that he is almost certainly behaving like this on purpose by now. But Maglor does watch with quiet concern - he really does not actually want to have to pull Kai out ]

I am merely watching, after all.

[halfbloodhatchling]

[Kai fixes him with another glare, and then resolves to ignore him, focusing on treading water.

He can do that much, at least, even if it's exhausting.]

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor moves away from the shore, but he settles himself close enough to be able to get to Kai if he gets in trouble, lifting his head to the artificial ceiling overhead and humming softly.

He's keeping a general weather eye out, in truth - Kai is not the only one in the water, and although this is an artificial beach with no tides, people will get into trouble generally. But while he's here, he can at least keep an eye out. ]

[halfbloodhatchling]

[Kai can't relax under the knowledge the other man is there to keep an eye on him, even if he's surprised enough when he looks up and doesn't catch the other elfin's gaze with his own.

It's exhausting and he's tense with trying to keep an eye on the other man, so perhaps it isn't surprising when he does find himself deeper into the water than he intended, splashing to try to tread water and finding it not very successful, his head dipping under water, then above again for a gasp of air.]

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor is alert the minute Kai goes under, although he does not stand, tense and wary, even after he comes up for air.

The shallows are not far. If Kai can make it back he will be alright. If not... ]

[halfbloodhatchling]

[ Kai can fight his way to the surface, that much is clear, and if he needed to make his way to the shallows he will. And he's doing that, moving slight bobs by determination rather than skill. His heart is pounding and he knows he's an idiot, feels that much, but he also can't give in to the exhaustion.

Not yet.]

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor watches, tense and still, but he does not call out - no need to distract him, after all.

But he starts hunting for the songs that will let him pull the water away ]

[halfbloodhatchling]

[ Kai makes it back, scrambling with his feet when they hit ground and continuing to fight against the semblance of current until he's further into the shallow.

Then he collapses to his knees, breathing heavily as his lungs take in what they can. ]

[bythewaves]

[ a breath of relief and Maglor releases the beginnings of his music ]

Need you any aid?

[halfbloodhatchling]

[ Air is great, Kai really likes air. As soon as he has enough to talk, he does, though his voice is still rough. ]

I'm fine. I told you I would be.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor shakes his head at him with a low tsk ]

You almost were not. I think you had best stay in the shallows - did you never learn to swim?

[halfbloodhatchling]

[ Kai's voice is a growl. ]

I'm learning it now.

[bythewaves]

If you keep that flailing up, you will do more harm than good.

[ Maglor scolds ]

Relax. Water is surprisingly strong. Before you learn to swim, you should try to learn to float. Spread your weight out, rather than let it all drop in out point - your back is the easiest.

[halfbloodhatchling]

[ Kai gives Maglor a cold look, then starts to walk further back to shore. ]

I've changed my mind. I don't think I'll do this today.

[bythewaves]

Your loss. [ Maglor shrugs ]

But you had best learn, if you are going to be here often. There are waves in some of the deeper pools, and the currents can drag you under there, if you are not careful. I would stick to the shallows.

[halfbloodhatchling]

I'm not really interested in what you would do, or even what you think I should.

[bythewaves]

Your loss. [ Maglor shrugs ]

So long as you do not drown on my watch, it is of no account to me.

[ He stands and starts wandering off ]

But I will add this, youngling, if you meet all attempts at advice with such hostility, you will not get far in life.

[halfbloodhatchling]

Only ones from unsidhe.

[ And it's true enough. While Kai had been hostile to Ryder, even that hadn't been to this level.

But he doesn't trust Maglor even a little. ]

[bythewaves]

[ A snort drifts back ]

I do not know that word. You are, I think, confusing me with someone from your own world, which I am not. I am Quendi, and I know nought of any Unsidhe. So you judge by appearance only - which, by the way, is both rude and foolish.

[halfbloodhatchling]

You're still an arrogant bastard.

[ Kai's not exactly to get along with himself, and he's not trying to be friendly at all. ]

[bythewaves]

Probably. [ Drifts back ]

My family has always had issues with pride. But most people bristle when faced with bad manners, so you can blame only yourself for my attitude. Do not drown!
