You can check out anytime you'd like.. [Hotel Corona Mingle]

Who: The Fleet!
Broadcast: If you want
Action: Hotel Corona or Planet Ikke
When: December 7th onward

a wheel-shaped space station

[After the mystery and isolation of their last destination, the Marsiva seems determined to head to brighter, busier territory. After a long journey through remote, nebula-painted space, speeding along at a brisk pace for the Host ship, the Marsiva brings her Fleet to a sudden and prominent point of traffic.

It seems that the Fleet has happened upon some sort of vacation destination! Maybe Atroma thinks that the passengers deserve some rest and relaxation... or just wants to distract them with something huge and shiny.

Welcome to Hotel Corona! Feel free to enjoy yourselves and enjoy the sites! If a hotel resort isn't your thing, you can head on over to the nearby planet and explore it's icy wonders.

In order words: it's a mingle!! Everyone get in! ]

That, or it's the weirdest game of Calvinball I've ever heard of.

[He pauses, remembering what Peggy had said. Steve is a man of the past, and this particular piece of Earth pop culture might've escaped him.

So he clarifies:]
It's not a real game, but in the 90's, there's a comic where "Calvinball" is a sport with two conditions: you make up the rules as you go along, but you can't use the same ones twice.

[ that's absolutely foreign but he does his best to understand. Calvinball, huh? steve has a hard time even imagining what it must have been like and fails splendidly. ]

How did it work? they'd change games that already existed or made ones from scratch?
stefanged: (well okay then)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-12-11 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
A bit of both, really. Kids invented it, so they weren't too interested about keeping things the same.

[It's been a while since he's read the comic, but that unusual game never left his memory. Calvin and Hobbes were super imaginative.]

Makes me wonder if the holes - and the courses - are set up just like that.

Then you always have a chances at winning, I suppose.

[ it's an odd sort of comfort, really. it leaves all the bets open and it add a new sort of thrill, albeit a confusing one. ]

I guess it means it doesn't matter how skilled you are.
stefanged: (oh really now?)

Doesn't seem like it. [Stefan's not the competitive sort, so it doesn't bother him, but...] Are you okay with that? The whole "what are the rules gonna be this time" thing?

If not, we can always ditch this place for the go-carts.

[personal profile] uprightness 2016-12-12 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm actually curious about this.

[ he admits with a bit of a smile. ]

Could be that there's a pattern we're missing here. A few more attempts and we might see it.

[ a tactical man, this one. ]
stefanged: (well okay then)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-12-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
You think so? [He tilts his head, skimming the scoreboard and trying to imagine what patterns they could've missed. More than one comes to mind.] I'm willing to give it another shot.

I just hope one of us actually wins at some point.

If not, we'll have to decide it's a technical win for both of us.

[ and that will just have to do. the good thing was neither of them seemed very competitive, simply more than a little curious about this whole thing. ]

Or - we could decide that we lost at trying to figure this out.
stefanged: (rare smile)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-12-23 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, if we decide it was a mutual loss? We can't celebrate it.

[Stefan's honestly the least competitive with physical activities. If this were a game of charades or Pictionary, he would've gone for the gold - but mini-golf? He's fine as-is.]

Better to figure out the pattern than forever wonder whatever it was, right?

Can't let the system win in that one.

[ he agrees and looks at the little mini-golf course. ]

The first we'll need is a good strategy.
stefanged: (easy smile)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-12-27 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Right, right. Can't go into this blindfolded.

[Hmmm. Steve's had more recent experience with strategy than him, but...]

I remember the holes where I won with property damage. If you remember the ones where you won for missing the hole, maybe we could try the opposite approach.
