Hello everyone. I know this is rather sudden, but this Saturday I've rented out a space in the Hotel to hold a Holiday Party for the Fleet. It seems that a lot of worlds have celebrations around this time of year, and I thought it would be nice for us all to get together and share them, and just be able to enjoy each other's company in a space that feels less like a sardine can. Even if you don't celebrate anything, please come and grace us with your company.

The party will start at 7, but by all means come as you can. There will be a buffet and a bar - please get yourself a hotel room and not use the shuttles to go home if you do drink, by the way.

So come out and enjoy yourselves. I hope to see you there.

Saturday - The Party
<sub>[ The party is held in a large and spacious club-like space, but it is well lit and there is a mix of small tables and an open area for dancing set up. Music drifts over some speakers, with a pre-selected list already programmed in, and not so loud that one couldn't talk to your neighbor, but loud enough to sway to the beat if you desired. The space is decorated in tones of white and gold, a touch of festivity without really nodding towards any one particular celebration.

A bar is staffed by two of the hotel bar tenders and alcohol is plentifully stocked along with non-alcoholic choices. The buffet ran along one wall, piled with meats, vegetables, fruits, and sweets - everything to suit anyone who might come.

No sarcasm, it really was that good! Although I've no doubt I'll have a new favourite experience when I get out to see a bit more. I've been trying to earn a little extra by playing towel boy at the pool.

That must keep you busy. That pool is huge.

Impressively so! But if you hustle, it's a good way to make some decent tips! Although I'm not sure wher I go from here with this progression from doctor to cook and now pool boy.

To be fair, I would hope they already had any clinics in the hotel staffed before we got here. Maybe this is for the best.

You're right. But still, it'd be nice to do some kind of medical work - any kind of medical work! - again.

You couldn't find anything remotely closer to that than working at a pool?

Apparently my role in space is to be constantly and thoroughly underestimated.

The silver lining is that I've got an in with the spa staff for discounts on their services.

I guess I can get how telling someone you're a doctor, but can't prove it because of an unfortunate interdimensional kidnapping would be pretty sketch. Still, you'd think they'd at least let you do lifeguard stuff.

Ah well, it's all temporary anyway.

And enough about me! What have you been enjoying here so far?

Sleeping in a bed that isn't completely shitty is the first thing that comes to mind.

Did you get a themed room?

Yeah. I shelled out for it, but I'm splitting it with someone and I got a job while I'm here, so it's not that awful.

It's like - the whole thing is covered with bedding, like a huge blanketfort.

Fancy a trade? I've got the creepy vampire room.

Not sure the person I'm sharing it with would be down for a switch to a creepy vampire room.

Can't blame a guy for trying! I don't know whether to be disturbed or impressed that they have a coffin in my size.

I would go with disturbed, and maybe a little concerned?

At least it's only for one night! I play the room roulette odds pretty frequently.

One night sleeping in a coffin is too long.

Where else have you ended up?

The "murder scene" room was not my favourite, although it was vaguely reminiscent of home, I suppose.

...Do I want to ask?

It wasn't that bad really. Mostly the chalk outline of the victim as my bedspread was a little unsettling.

No, I mean - why did it remind you of home?

[arfvader]

Oh, that. Well I work as a medical examiner for the Seattle PD, so murder scenes are kind of a part of my daily grind.

[robitussin]

Dude. I think that's the first time in this weird interdimensional melting pot I've met someone else from Washington.

Also, that must be a really creepy job, but that first thing is more important.

[arfvader]

I'm obviously an implant, being British and all, but I have greatly enjoyed my time in the Pacific Northwest! Whereabouts in Washington do you hail from?

And for the record, while it's not exactly a happy job, I find it very rewarding when my work contributes to catching the perpetrators.
