At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

[ all in all, it's a night for snazzing up. peggy doesn't shy away from a dramatic silhouette, but the barer shoulders is a new look for her. a bit of modernism for the new year.

she makes a point to find winn with two glasses in hand -- one for her, and one for him. she pushes it gently into his palm. she won't be leaving this interaction without a toast, sir. ]

Here's to you, [ she answers in a sprightly voice -- betraying, perhaps, that she's already had a drink or three. ] Were you surprised? I know Ms. Pryde wanted you to be surprised.

[ she certainly out-snazzed him. steve's right - there is no missing her.

he accepts the glass gratefully - he has no problem with the toasting! it takes him a second though, because wow. how beautiful she looks deserves a moment to just be appreciated, ok! ]

Thanks - [ he smiles brightly and nods ] oh yeah, she got me. I thought I was coming to a New Year's Eve party - I totally should've known though, right? [ he laughs, it's just that he hasn't really been thinking about his birthday, and he told kitty the date once, back in april. but then, his best friend is also here, so between the two of them there's no way it would've gone unnoticed. ]

Perhaps you ought to have had an inkling, yes.

[ but also perhaps it's a little lovely that winn hadn't anticipated the party. it likely made the surprise that much sweeter. ] But at least the holiday gives you just about enough plausible deniability, I think.

[ even if he would have anticipated a party -- he would never have anticipated this. he'd think maybe something like the party he threw for kitty's birthday - a get together with close friends. of course, they were limited by available space on the tourist back then since her birthday happened mere days after his attack and he wasn't ready to leave it yet...but still, he never would have imagined anyone going to this much trouble for him - or that many people showing up. ]

Score - I knew the birthday-on-a-holiday thing was bound to pay off eventually!

You and Steve, [ she allows herself a crisp and present laugh. her own birthday is common as mud, though she certainly doesn't go telling people the date. one of those funny little secrets. ] You share that particular burden.

Okay but his couldn't be more perfect if he tried.

[ whereas his means everyone's going to be too hungover to do anything. ]

Oh, I don't know. There's something poetic about both your age and your year being freshly turned at so near the same time. [ she eyes her drink -- lets it swirl a moment. ] It's tidy.

[ poetic and tidy. ]

Clearly should've been yours then.

[ because tidy he is not. not that he's super messy or anything but his life's never been tidy. ]

[ a bark of laughter. she knows she appears neat and tidy to the world -- she curates such an appearance. the fashion helps. so, too, does a certain level of articulation. and peggy certainly prefers tidiness in her work. but winn's never had the dubious pleasure of seeing beneath the facade. few ever do. indeed, he's more likely to win himself a hug. ]

Maybe it is. [ she teases. ] Can't say; my file's classified.

[ first, a hug - then, the world! ]

You know in that case I'm just gonna have to make it up. I'm happy to share mine if you want it.

Heavens, no. I wouldn't want to steal your thunder and the new year's thunder. All in one fell swoop. [ she shakes her head. ] Keep it.

[winn]

We have plenty of thunder to go around. But you're right, you should get a day that's all yours.

[mucked]

[ pish posh. she'll never celebrate it. not for any adverse reasons -- but merely because it's not a priority. more an inconvenience than a sore point. so she waves it off and focuses back upon winn. ]

Would you change the date? If you could?

Not with parties like this -

[ there are so many things in his life he would change if he could, that one doesn't even make the list. ]

Fair enough. [ a flash of a smile. ] Some people don't have the right temperament to share. I take it you're not one of them?

[ a good thing. a very good thing. a bit of personal hoarding (and even jealousy) isn't terrible, but peggy clearly would think little of someone sour over something as unchangeable as their date of birth. ]

[winn]

[ he can definitely get jealous, even pettily so, but he's spent most of his life being jealous of people who have loved ones to share with. he gets jealous when he feels excluded. more people to party with? that sounds like some awesome inclusion to him! ]

Good Lord, that sounds as though it's lifted straight off a propaganda poster.

[ she gets a curious little frown at that ]

Who wrote your propaganda posters, care bears?

[ honestly, she was thinking more along the lines of the salvation army. ]

Cartoon, doesn't matter. [ he shakes his head ] D'you know the ponies? Kinda like them.

But bears, I take it.

[ heaven help her. ]

Mostly bears, yeah. I think there was a lion too...and an elephant? I could be wrong on that one, it was a show about cute bears talking about feelings, I wasn't exactly the target audience.

[ the target audience. it possibly says a lot that she (clever though she is) doesn't think about television programmes aimed at children.
