At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

Fast is alright. I don't complain about fast. [ there's a thrill there, certainly, when a speedster grabs you by the arm and helps you break into the avengers tower. and pietro reminds her a lot of tommy, only he's not tommy. and that's a little insurmountable because you can be damn sure she wouldn't be putting any moves on quicksilver back home.

What about you? [ turnabout is fair play. even if she knows it'll be like squeezing blood from a stone. ] Do you have a type? Or types.

Oh, apparently I am always up to make a new kind of mistake. [Look how well her last adventure went.] But for the time being we're on about the same page. No reason to complicate things.

You ever worry about exes showing up?

[Ha. Her laugh isn't exactly bitter. More resigned.]

Worried is the wrong word. Half expect it, on the other hand? Sometimes.

I take it Clint doesn't count. [ dot dot dot. ] Not for you, at least...?

[ oh she's so curious. lay her doubts to rest or set them on fire. ]

[Oh, how I wish I knew the answer to that. How. I wish. I knew.]

Clint, I wouldn't mind showing up.

[ a slow nod -- kate can't say she wouldn't like to meet the guy. he sounds intriguing. but, then again, she's not sure she's prepared to meet a clint that doesn't know her. that friendship has been such a bedrock to her.

[ it's less about the answer and more about the reaction, to be fair. not that kate expects to see much of one. ]

The vigilante? [She responds with just enough curiosity to imply she didn't know that one.

She doesn't entirely seem surprised though.] Interesting.

Aren't we all? [ a crooked smile. vigilantes. ] Well. Most of us.

[ in truth, kate doesn't know much about daredevil and black widow. all she knows is that whenever he comes up in conversation or in headlines, clint tends to mumble something about what the futz did she see in him anyway. kate's never delved deeper. ]

There's room for debate there. [Technically, most of Natasha's actions have been as part of or sanctioned by one intelligence organization or another. In the circumstances where they weren't, there were other words that tended to be used for people like here. Rogue operative, for example.] But some people might use that word.

Fair enough. We can't all be international super-spies. [ kate's glance is equally sly and admiring. ] I risked getting in trouble with the law every time I went out before I got my Avengers card. And more than a few times afterwards too.

Oh, I didn't say I didn't risk that. There's just usually different words for it.

[Her tone manages to be both dry and arch, and somehow self-deprecating. As though she's both on both a higher and lower level than most people in that regard. Which she just might be.]

Any other exes from your world I should know about, in case they show up and are confused I don't recognize them?

I only really know about Daredevil and Hawkeye. [ she lies. it's not even a very good lie -- but for whatever reason, she's uneasy about naming anything else she might know on the topic. ]

But you don't really gotta worry about Clint. I think he knows that ship has sailed.

We've talked here a few times. I didn't get the impression he was going to make things awkward.

[She shrugs.]

At least no more awkward than it was going to be anyway.

Give it time. [ how encouraging! ] At least it's a mostly harmless kinda awkward, though. Usually.

Not too worried about it. It'll be strange if my Clint shows up though. Two of them in one place is at least one too many.

Absolutely. [ ... ] You can only have so many world's greatest marksmen.

Me and Clint. [ her clint. ] We're neck and neck. He'd never tell you this and -- hey, I don't like admitting it either -- but on any given day either one of us could be the greater shot. Maybe he had a better breakfast. Maybe I had more coffee.

That's impressive. Assuming he's as good as I expect him to be.

[And she sees no reason to assume he won't be.]

Especially considering he's got the edge in experience.
