At the risk for earning a reputation as a party planner, I have a thing for everyone to attend again. Don't worry, lots of other people are helping pull it together. It's going to be on New Year's Eve, but the real event is the countdown to Winn's birthday which is also on the first. It's going to be in a club we rented out for this in the red shift district. Starts around seven-ish. Ends when you pass out?

It's kind of a surprise maybe? At least the part where it's for his birthday. And if you don't know Winn but you still want to come that's fine too. You can trade a gift for Winn for a free drink at the bar. Otherwise, bring some money. Cake's on us though.

[Birthday/New Year's Party]
[The space is well decorated and so glittered you can probably tell Wrath was part of the team putting this together. Lots of Winn's friends came out to help whether it was getting decorations up, managing food, music, or chipping in to buy out the space and a drink for anyone bringing a gift. Not to mention drinks for the birthday boy all night.

There's a table for presents and another one with a spread of openly available food though the bar has appetizers you can buy too. There's a big cake at one end because of course there is and some punch that didn't start the night spiked at least. There's space for dancing and a karaoke machine set up on a small raised platform for those who want to try their hand at entertainment.

The night really kicks off when Winn walks in and instead of a balloon drop there's a fluffy blue stuffed bear drop. Feel free to take one of those home. There are a lot.

When midnight comes closer some people will file out to one of the observation areas to get a good view of the nebula for the big countdown. Bring your own person to kiss!

[She hums thoughtfully.]

You were pretty good with a little would-be murderer. So there's that.

She wasn't so hard to handle. The situation was familiar, at least.

[ Minus the almost strangling, but that's neither here nor there. He's tough and she was learning. ]

Most people wouldn't agree. I'm just saying, maybe what Steve sees isn't as hard to find as you think.

I'm not so sure, but I can't pretend to know what he's thinking, either.

[ Steve is still probably seeing the man that died in the Alps. The one that started being chipped away on Zola's table. ]

[Natasha never met that man, so she couldn't say.]

No, I know. But from my perspective.

Maybe, but same goes for you, too.

[She smiles very slightly, not arguing with him but it's also clear she no more believes that than he finds it easy to have faith in his own goodness. Neither of them trusts their own moral compass all that much; not surprise there.]

You sure you're not up for a dance, tonight? We can save the tango for when you have both arms online, but pretty confident we can find a way to work around this on.

[Re-directing the conversation.]

[ They're both horribly flawed individuals who are more morally grey than most people they know. It feels validating to be around someone that knows where he's coming from. Knows the dark corners that he's lurked in as intimately as he does.

He takes the comment for what it is, a diversion, though a good one. Bucky concedes. ]

I could dance if we figured something out.

[A diversion, but also realizing that they were on the same page. Her smile widens slightly, warming.]

Might have an idea about that, if you trust me.

I'm willing to hear you out, at least.

[ Which basically means he'll trust her as much as he's able. This is unlike the situation with her younger self, plotting his murder. ]

[That's all she can ask. Honestly, she wouldn't blame him if he worried she'd try her luck again just for nostalgia's sake.]

All I'm saying, his this dress has pockets.

[Meaning as long as it was a slow dance and they weren't worried about what other people thought, they could probably put his hand in one.]

[ That dress does not look like it has pockets. Of course she'd have secret pockets somewhere.. He gives her a once-over, still in disbelief. ]

..I could work with that.

[Did you really believe Natasha wouldn't have somewhere to put her toys? If he thinks there are fewer than three knives on her even in this dress, he'd be delusional.]

Problem solving. Want to finish your drink first?

[ The scary part is that he more than believes she's got weapons on her. Hell, he does too. They've been in their careers long enough to know it's stupid not to. Considering his drink for a moment, he knocks the rest back, setting the glass back down.

His chest burns, but it's at least pleasant. ] Problem solved, onto the next.

Two for two so far.

[They're on a roll tonight.

A couple of deadly assassins.

Pretending to be people.

Natasha pushes away from the bar, heading for the dance floor. Somehow, she's as amused by his willingness to dance as by Steve's reluctance.]

This way.

[ He follows her wordlessly onto the dance floor. Nothing weird about this. Two assassins sharing a dance on new year's eve.

Contrary to what most people probably assume, he likes dancing. It's muscle memory and repetition. Something he can focus on and not have to think. ]

The music isn't bad.

[Natasha takes his left hand carefully once they're out there, reeling him in and tucking it into a camouflaged pocket at her hip. If he could move his hand to feel around, he'd find a few tiny taser devices, not unlike the one she used to short out his arm before.

She tilts her head.]

It's not. I think I can work with this.

[A smile.]

Both Steve and Peggy would complain about it.

[ Bucky has no doubt that there are weapons, though he's not going to pry. It's not about that. Once they're close, he'll take her hand in his. ]

This isn't awkward in the least. [ It's not bad, though. Nice, even. ]

There was a planet before Steve came back. There was a masquerade. We went together for the hell of it.

Why would it be awkward? [Natasha rests one hand on his shoulder, easing easily into a simple dance.]

A masquerade, huh? I bet the two of you cut a handsome couple. [She lets the topic move on though. It's just obviously true the two of them would look good.] Sounds nice. You dress up?

I'll make it up to you proper once my arm is fixed. [ You know, gotta be awkward with a hand that's not yours in your pocket. ]

Where do you think the suit came from?

[If Natasha finds it awkward, she does an admirable job of hiding it. Not that it's not a little strange, but compared to aliens? This is nothing. Minor accommodations. At the same time...]

I'll hold you to that.

[Why let the opportunity slide.]

We'll see if I make you get a new set of clothes to do it.

[ Of course she doesn't make a big deal about it, she's much more subtle than that.

His eyebrow arches upward at the suggestion. ]

That right? Can't say I'm not interested to see what that would entail.

[She makes it seem natural. She's good at this.]

Don't get my hopes up, Barnes. Not unless you plan on following through.

Well now I'm curious enough to.

[ Don't tempt him with well-meaning mystery, Natasha. ]
