If we're thinking of the same other way then nothing beats that as long as you don't think about that part. But you're right. I would like to spend more time with Kurt. [The playfulness drops off and she looks more thoughtful.] Things can be so intense with us sometimes. I don't always know if that's good for him or maybe it's the best thing for him. Or...how it is for me.

What do you mean?

[ he's not getting involved. no way is he getting involved. that's his girlfriend and her best friend. schott don't you dare get involved it will bite you in the ass. ]

Mmm...I've changed a lot since I was home. I mean it's all still a part of me, but the way I respond to things is tempered. What I expect from situations is different. If he just observed me for a day he might think I was a Kitty from a different world. But when it's just the two of us I'm somewhere in the middle of those two places? And everything back home was just so much more intense and dramatic. [That's right, Winn. You're getting the calm, stable version. Terrifying, isn't it?] There's a lot of shouting and weeping. Not that I weeped back then. I hadn't cried for years. But, like I said, somewhere in the middle.

[ he's quiet as he tries to process it. he knows the phenomena well - him reverting back to old habits is one of his biggest fears about taking her back to national city with him. and those are not good habits to revert to - he's so proud of her for pushing forward, adjusting to a more tempered world, and he definitely doesn't want to encourage anything that will get in the way of that.

but he's her best friend, the last remnant of a dead world. if anyone can help him move forward it's her and it's wrong to leave him behind.

he chooses his words carefully. ]

I don't think there's any way being around you could be bad for anyone. You know, unless they're evil and have it coming. [ okay so not carefully enough to avoid his characteristic babbling. but he's nervous, cut him some slack, this is a hard topic to navigate through. ] There's a balance there somewhere, that's good for both of you. I know you can find it.

[She smiles at that and gives him another kiss. She liked it—well considered, babbling and all.] I do really want to be there for him. I felt so alone for so long when I got to the prison. [In some ways it might have been good for her. It pushed her to reach out to people who weren't X-Men. To adapt. But she was so starved for understanding and affection by then.]

Maybe you can try hanging out in a less -- talky environment? Like, catch a movie and just - be there by being there?

[She plays with his hair.] You are as smart as you are hot. [It hasn't actually bothered her to have those intense moments with Kurt. She just comes out of it more in that mindset and doesn't want to throw off her other relationships because of it. And she doesn't want to set back his progress, but being together can also be so incredibly cathartic.]

[ it doesn't have to be one or the other, a healthy mix might actually do them some good. ]

You don't just keep me around for the puns. [ he smiles, and being the smart guy that he is - this is as involve as he's going to get. yes. definitely. no more. probably. ]

[She has to kiss him for awhile before returning to happy, quiet snuggles. But all snuggles must eventually end! Well, not really end, but in this case get less quiet.] So, just to go back to something less fun and charming than this for a second...

There's something you should maybe know if you do talk to Robb again. It's not really mind to tell which is why I didn't the first time, but I think it's helpful context for that night. Plus, so many people already know.

[ but they were having such a nice time happy snuggling - he thought the hard part was over! it's not fair, it was supposed to be over.

he tenses a little, sensing that there is...no way this could be good. ]

I think everyone from his world is from after him and he found out he didn't make it. That was part of what he was dealing with. Not that it makes it okay or anything. It just kind of reminded me of the night I got drunk after finding out.

[ okay. yeah. he feels like a complete asshole now. why is she snuggling him instead of kicking him?

he shuts his eyes for a moment, just taking that in. what can he even say to that? ]

[She watches him and holds closer. Definitely no kicking here.] Hey, hey, you didn't know, and it didn't make what he did any less out of line.

[ it doesn't make it okay, but it does make it understandable to get that level of drunk even when you can't handle it, maybe he didn't even know that he can't handle it. ]

I owe him one hell of an apology.

He probably owes you one too. He told me he'd punch you if you talked like that to him again. Be proud of your girlfriend who didn't phase him into a wall and leave him there. He's such a frustrating kid sometimes. [Which only reminds her of herself more. A young person with responsibilities far greater than you'd expect. He was king. She was one of the X-Men. Both married. Both stubborn and honest to a fault. But still...children. Well, her less so now.] But the last time we talked he said he would use his words and be open.

I'll use the network. [ he has no idea how this is gonna go, he has no idea what he'll even say, and he doesn't know that his temper won't get the better of him again. staying out of striking distance feels like the way to go. ]

You are wise. [She gives him a supportive nuzzle.] And you know as far as apologizing goes, that's up to you. If you want to that's great and if you don't you don't have to do it for me. I wouldn't want that. Do what feels right for you. Same with being friends or anything like that. I don't expect it. I'm just hoping for a non-fighting, able to be in the same room thing which was probably what it was going to be anyway, but after talking to Jeyne I felt like I had to say something.

I dunno about the friend thing [ though if they become friends after a start like that, they'll have a damn strong foundation. ] but he deserves an apology, my temper was out of line. [ he needs to do it for himself, too. his father never took responsibility for his actions.

he's really not looking forward to talking to robb at all, but the thought of doing the right thing and the opposite of his dad does help. hopefully he meant it about being open. ]

[She kisses his cheek.] You're a good man, Winn Schott. The best. And you made me a hat. [That she somehow snuggled and nuzzled you with while wearing. SUSPENSION OF BELIEF!]

[ he smiles because he knows that's what she's looking for, but he's really not feeling like the best right now. he's not even completely sold on good. it's been a trying evening for his self esteem. ]
