004 // the house of sin
Who: Dorian and assorted guests
Broadcast: Fleet-wide, 3/10
Action: In a villa practically in the forest (THE HOUSE OF SIN)
When: Broadcast- 3/10 // Action- 3/9-3/31? Until we leave.
Broadcast:
[The broadcast goes out on 3/10, and Dorian smirks a bit into the feed.]
I believe I've secured lodging for myself, with room enough for several others. If you need a place to stay, do let me know. It's a quaint little villa a bit outside of town. ...please don't mind the suspicious glances, I assure you, I've done nothing entirely against the guidelines that were set.
---------
Action:
[Dorian has secured a villa, but the residents of Mor don't seem too keen on having an evil mage for a neighbor. As the month goes on, more and more villagers will show up to stand at the gates of the villa and threaten to come in after the "evil wizard".
Maybe he shouldn't have gone so overboard with the whole "contacting the spirits of the dead" thing.]
((OOC: Mingle post for the House of Sin. We'll pretend there are enough rooms in here for everyone! Even if you character only drops by to rest their feet a bit, everyone is welcome to visit and stay the night if they want.))

[her eyes widen as she nods, solemnly.]
I guess my sister is on a life-quest to destroy all fairies, but she's like, eight. So I have a while before that gets bad. Most kidnapping attempts end with my big friend smashing his giant hammer into their face. So. You know. Could be worse.
no subject
Yes, I suppose it could be worse. Family is always...difficult.
[He sits back a bit, and weighs it for a moment. Well, she did want to be friends, so this was a step in that, he supposed. Honesty, and all that.]
I have issues with my father. He...when I said that he wished me to take a wife, that wasn't the entirety of it. You see, in my homeland, the most corrupt mages use blood magic. I hate it, but I suppose there's little harm in using your own blood, or blood given willingly.
But my father, he...he wanted to take my blood from me, to bleed me and change me, make me acceptable. So that I would take a wife, so that I wouldn't keep the company of men anymore.
[He looks down at his hands, gold rings catching the light and glossy black nails a stark contrast to even his tanned skin.]
Perhaps it could have worked but...I wouldn't have been Dorian anymore. It would have been some other man. I don't know that I would have liked him.

[she spends so much of her time thinking about herself as a separate entity from everyone else. she strikes out so often to "find herself" and establish an identity and create clear lines about who she is and who she isn't. she sees herself as one thing (fairy, small girl, teenager) and everyone else as something different (human, adult, potential danger).
but for once, she really... can't look at Dorian like that, because listening to this makes her feel like he's just a person and she's another person who wishes that hadn't happened to him. this is probably called "empathy", but she's never been great with feelings.
she puts a hand on his shoulder, as if they were the same height.]
I'm sorry. It's really horrible that he wanted to do that.
no subject
It is. But...I suppose it proves that there are no ends even good men will sink to, when desperate.
[Which was the honest truth. Halward Pavus was, even still a good man. Dorian still believed that his father wasn't evil. He hadn't joined the Venatori, after all, but he had been driven to desperation, let blood magic tempt him in a moment of weakness.]

when all else fails, she supposes there's always weak humor:]
Super-creepy, too. I'm glad you didn't get brainwashed.
no subject
I am, as well. Could you imagine? I need at least six more months to practice my cackle before I can properly pass as an evil Magister.
this thread should have ended ages ago but I can't NOT write this tag
Yeah, you're... Good being you, I think. You're just fine.
[which... makes her think of one of the reasons she'd accepted his offer to stay here in the first place. she doesn't want to dredge up another secret aspect of her life, but they're here and they're talking honestly, and Dorian already spilled his guts with barely any prompting on her part.
so she takes a very deep breath, and... gracefully flops sideways onto the bed. like a dying swan. it is again, perhaps, a boon to all that she cannot raise her voice, otherwise this would have been a groan heard in the rooms surrounding them.]
Dorian, I am so gay.
GOD BLESS
I know that feeling all too well.
[Or, in other words: "same".]

[the shoulder pat is very much appreciated. she's going to continue to lay here in her haunted misery. or frustration. whatever this feeling is.]
no subject
It's not easy.
[Less so when you have a legacy weighing down on you, but Dorian could still remember furtive, clumsy kisses in the circle in Quarinus, holding onto the other boy's robes like they were a lifeline, like they meant something.
And how every time footsteps sounded down the halls they would pull away, leave him in an alcove with only the memory of their lips on his.
Dark nights in their shared room with Rilienus, and him telling Dorian, definitively, that he didn't love him. But Dorian knew, perhaps too late, that he was irrevocably, desperately in love with him.
It wasn't easy.
That's what pushed him to talk to Krista, to offer friendship to her, because he remembered how lonely it all was, and how desperate he was for something that had any meaning.
And how hard it was to figure out what it mean to prefer boys to girls, in a society where love like his was seen as just a dalliance. Where had to figure out what love meant to him, and had to figure it out alone.
He didn't want Krista to feel that, like she was alone in this.
He offered her an uncertain but honest smile. It was odd, letting someone else in, but he was finding that it was worth it.]
If you ever need me, you know how to find me. At the very least, I can lend a sympathetic ear.
no subject
maybe her dad. maybe.]
Sympathy's pretty nice... Though I also accept gifts and chocolates.
[it's so deadpan that it could almost be mistaken for total seriousness. she glances down at the covers of the bed, since she couldn't look at Dorian and still have the guts to say this--]
You know what the really stupid thing is? I just keep thinking about my family. I mean, like, they're already going to think I'm a hideous abomination for secretly being a fairy monster underneath all the... human, so...
[...she looks up, a little.] I'm basically gonna be hunted down every day of my life for being magical, so I don't know why this is the thing that's bothering me so much...
no subject
I've learned that the more something bothers you, the more it means to you.
[And he looks over at her, uncertain.]
Not that it shouldn't be important. I'm certain that there are people who don't think about who they prefer, simply because they don't need to. For the rest of us...it's a struggle to know who you are. To find out who "you" are. And certainly, I imagine it could be harder to reach for something more normal to learn about yourself when you're facing being chased for the rest of your life.
no subject
[she gives it a pause, thinking for a moment... but doesn't come up with anything smart or insightful to say.]
I guess I'll just... figure it out, like everything else.
no subject
[And then he smiles, softly, raising his brows teasingly.]
So are there any girls that have caught your fancy?
no subject
[she instantly turns several shades of pink, hiding her face against the bed.]
No. No way.
