I must say the good folk of this stop are very kind - they have allowed my brother and I use of the mines and forges here in exchange for some trading. My brother and I are going to be working on some proper swords - if anyone else is inclined to a bladed weapon, we are happy to make you one as well.

Grandfather, Fingon, you needn't ask, but your help in the forges would be invaluable - Maedhros and I manage, of course, but neither of us are... what we were. And we have neither Father, nor Curvo, nor Tylepe here to point out everything we are doing wrong!

[she offers him a parting smile before ending the feed, and then goes in search of her notebook.

She's never been much for fancy things, so sketching out what her old sword looked like doesn't take her long at all. She even scribbles out the measurements before she hops a shuttle down to where Maglor directed her.

It dawns on her as she goes in search of the elf that she forgot to ask for his name]

[ She'll hear them before she sees them, Maglor's voice raised in clear song, keeping time for his brother and cousin with his voice - he's slipped away from words into sound, the thrumming heart of a forge fire, the strength of mountains, the clash of the hammer - it's all there in his song to hear.

He steps outside as she comes into view with a bucket - he's clearly headed to fetch water, and he smiles and bows, the song breaking off into a bright welcome ]

Tempest, I do believe? Well met! Maglor, at your servie.

[she will never, ever get over how the elves here seem to love to sing. It isn't the first time she's heard it, and it's so different from the ones in her world that it throws her off, every time.

She returns his welcome with a tentative smile and bows her head politely, stepping closer. The urge to hide, as always, is one she has to force down]

[ Well to be fair, most of them are not QUITE so prone to burst into song as Maglor. Mostly. ]

Well, my brother and my cousin are. [ He shrugs, self-depreciatingly ] My job is to keep the bellows going and the water cold!

Is that not as important a job as the rest of it? [she raises an eyebrow]

[ he laughs at that and bows again wryly ]

You have me there. [ He admits ] Although I am not the one doing the actual forging - which is good! It was never my first love, so I am content with my lot, and the work still gets done.

I helped some with the making of my last sword, so I am familiar with some of it's difficulties. [she quirks a wry smile] So I can understand your contentedness.

[ Maglor smiles back ]

I was always more for jewellry than weapons, but my hands are no longer in any fit state for the fine work, and I prefer music, in any case. So either way, things will get done, and by those who know best, eh?

Ah, a craftsman. [the comment about his hands turns her smile a little bittersweet, and very understanding] That is true enough. That sort of work is best left to those who are skilled at it.

Only when I was younger! It turns out I am too easily distracted to make a living out of it, although I was one of those fortunate enough to be able to do what I wished. [ He smiles wryly ]

Did you ever do such work yourself?

[she shakes her head]

I liked watching others do that sort of work, but I was never interested in doing it myself. I preferred to read.

Oh? Anything in particular that you fancy reading? There is a small library on the Iskaulit, I think.

There is, I regularly visit. [a shrug] I read whatever catches my eye, honestly. If they have books on magic, I will go through those. Some of the history books . . . occasionally something that seems fun.

Mmn, I should try and see what is there, I suppose! I did write my people's history down as a gift, I remember. I wonder if our 'sponsors' ever leave books as a gift?

You - wrote their history down. [she tilts her head] How many years of history was that?

[she makes a thoughtful noise] I do not know if they do, but I imagine they would not be something one would want to read if they did.

Well, am writing. [ Maglor corrects himself ] Although I am done with the First Age and mostly through the Second, now.

Mm.... the calculations are not exact, but as a rough guide, I am some nine thousand six hundred, I think, and I was born... about halfway through the Years of the Trees, which preceded the First Age by... uh... about 30,000 years? I think.

And you never know - it might be amusing!

[how does she keep running into the older elves, gosh. She blinks a bit widely, unable to contain all of her surprise]

That . . . is quite a bit of time, goodness.

I suppose? [ Maglor grins a little abashedly ]

I never truly thought of it, I suppose. It is just what is.

It is a lot of time for someone who has only lived a fraction of that. [she smiles a bit and shrugs]

I suppose it must seem that way. [ He shrugs back shyly ]

It is not as great as it seems to be the one who has lived all those years.

Oh, I certainly believe that. [she did not like the idea of living hundreds of years, and her lifespan was only half that of a full elf] I am not looking forward to it.

It has its perks. [ Maglor says softly ]

In truth, I rarely notice it, until something brings it to mind. [ Like when those mortals he loves die ]

It is not something that comes up often for me, either. Very few people know how long my lifespan will be anyway. [she shrugs] Perks or no perks. It does not come up.

I think for those of us with such lives, we never consider it because it is simply something that is. It is only when we are faced with others, that it becomes an issue at all.

Mmm. My traveling party back home is made up of people similar - they either do not age as they should, or they will live long lives. It wasn't until I came here that it started becoming an - issue, as you say.
