[ the feed opens with a profile view of a sleeping winn. on his face, you can see an elaborate sharpie painted mustache (courtesy of opal) and from the ceiling right above him hangs a plastic flamingo in a coat and plastic sunglasses (courtesy of cisco).

to anyone who's been by to see him lately, it's a very familiar scene. but seconds into it something that hasn't happened in about two weeks begins to take place - movement. with a soft groan, winn reaches a sluggish hand to his face, shielding his eyes from the light. the hand then seems to decide that scratching above his upper lip is better use of its time and skills. slowly, his eyes blink open, struggling to adjust, to focus.

and then they do. on that flamingo.

he yelps, jumping up in bed, tearing the flamingo off its strings and throws it across the room, where he proceeds to stare at an off frame army of (four) flamingos. rubbing at his temples he mutters just loudly enough to be captured on film ] So Cisco's still here...

[ that seems to remind him of something, and with a sharp move his still sleepy mind can't seem to properly cope with, grabs at the communicator and misses. next attempt brings it into his hand and you finally get a close up of that glorious mustache.

he frowns into the camera ]

Of course it's rolling... [ his voice is raw, lips chapped, and he clears his throat in an attempt to bring back his usual volume ] Hi - Fleeters - if we're still calling ourselves that - Winn Schott here, back to the world of the conscious - if you recognize me check in and tell me how long I've been out - Kitty - you better still be here. [ because unless you call him within the next 10 seconds he's calling you as soon as he cuts this feed and if you're not there he will freak. he rubs at his painted mustache again, not quite realizing what's bothering him, and with a small tired smile fumbles to shut the broadcast off. ]

Start anywhere that feels right. [She kisses his cheek.] Good stuff, bad stuff, I'm your all-purpose girlfriend here for everything.

Let's go good stuff - [ he doesn't want to spoil the mood just yet. ] the president signed an alien amnesty act, so they can live in the open now. Different appearances, different powers - equal rights.

Kara didn't have equal rights before?

It's - it's complicated. I mean, technically, aliens couldn't be citizens, not as themselves, they all had to hide, pretend to be human, get fake papers. They don't have to do that anymore. Which is great for the ones who unlike Kryptonians - don't look human. Not to say that - delving into the bad - there aren't speciest a-holes out there, but. The president is really cool about aliens. You should hear Kara talk about her.

Her? Your president is a woman? I'm already sold. Even if there are some assholes. There are always some.

[ he nods ]

Yeah - our world's pretty cool that way.

[She knows "our" world probably means his and Kara's, but she still smiles and likes the thought of it as her world too.]

Sounds good so far. What else?

Work's really good - I finally feel like I found where I belong. I'm not just...building firewalls to keep gossip in until Ms. Grant decides it's time to unleash it, I'm actually saving lives, full time. That feels really good, and I'm surrounded by people who are interested in science and cool stuff and the tech, oh my god Kitty, I get to mess around with alien tech and get paid for it. And - I'm acknowledged. No angry mean boss being mean just for the hell of it, I get actual credit and respect, like - when I have an idea, people listen.

You have all the things you should have had all along. [Running her fingers through his hair.] Sounds like I still need to talk to this Grant woman when I get there though.

[ he smiles, just enjoying getting to share the good with her. ]

Actually she kinda - gave her job to James. [ don't ask him how the artistic director jumps to running the empire. ]

Weird. Did she leave in disgrace after losing you?

I'm sure she forgot whichever not my name she was calling me by in her head that day before I was out the door. Didn't really need someone with my skills for an IT gig.

I'm glad you're doing something that makes you happy and that other people are shoing you respect for. Fewer people for me to beat up when I get there. What kinds of things are you doing there?

[ he shifts a little uncomfortably. he remembers all too well her face when he told her he's a deo agent, the relief she showed when he surmised he's probably just the tech guy. ]

Well, mostly I deal with tech and intel. Databases, translations, suit upgrades, tracking, hacking, all that good stuff.

Mostly? [She sees that shifting.]

I may do some itsy bitsy totally tech related fieldwork. That may have kind of sent me to space through a stargate.

[She brushes her fingers through his hair looking thoughtful and then leans in to kiss him.] I'm very proud of you.

[ that is...not the reaction he was expecting but he will take it! he kisses back. ]

You're not mad?

I would be a giant liar if I told you I wasn't worried, but how could I be mad?

[ he wants to break down with relief, come clean about all of it - tell her how scared he's been, tell her about myriad, cadmus, guardian, the white martian.

but that's just going to make her worry more. and that's not fair, either. so instead he kisses her. ]

In reply to your earlier question - I learned to say the right thing from you.

[That gets a smile out of her.] I've seen how brave you've been here. I knew you had it in you. Most of me wants to cheer you on. Part of me wants to put you in several layers of bubble wrap and keep you away from all things pointy. Sometimes that part is going to be louder than the other one, but never forget it's the vocal minority that's only doing it because I love you and I want you safe.

[ he smiles right back ]

I'm getting pretty good at keeping myself safe, though - I totally beat an armed alien with a rock and my fist.

Yeah, that part is screaming. Please tell me a secret government department has better weapons than rocks.

Oh they do - they have the best stuff. I'm just you know, not qualified to use or carry any of it. And I usually don't need to! It was really just the one time that I had to fend for myself.

[ well there was the time with guardian but he didn't fend for himself there, that was the problem. ]

You need to get qualified. Always better to be overly prepared than under.
