I figure if it's somethin' I shouldn't be touchin', I'll find out real quick or someone'll yell at me about it. [He shoots a grin at Yuri.] An' no one has so far, so I'm doin' okay.

Or we might blow up. I hear technology can do that.

Like I said, I'll find out real quick. [So far, he's been relatively safe. And hasn't poked anything that says 'danger' or a red button, even if he's really wanted to.]

Why are you so interested in this stuff?

[unbridles]

It's all new to me. I mean, other'n what the augment does, so. [A cheerful shrug.] I'm catchin' up.

[evervigilante]

Augment? You mean the thing on our necks?

[unbridles]

Yeah, that thing. It's useful, I guess, but -- [He gestures up at the lights.] We didn't even have shit like this back home, we had windows an' candles an' oil lamps, mostly.

[ No electricity? That's hard to believe, even for Yuri. ]

It hadn't been invented yet? Or . . . ?

[ Being poor. Like Yuri was. ]

[John was -- definitely not poor, at home. If electricity had been a thing, the Laurens family would certainly have had it, but. Considering it was 1782 and all, it wasn't exactly a thing.]

Nah, I think Franklin mighta done an experiment about it or somethin', but I never paid a whole lot of attention t' that.

Huh. Sounds like an interesting world. Technology like this isn't my specialty but it isn't anything new either.

Well, we're kinda finishing up a war, so we haven't really -- been doin' much with technology lately. Maybe later, but we gotta concentrate on gettin' our freedom secured first. And freedom for others, I hope.

War does take priority.

Yeah. I was in a skirmish with the British before I got here. [Just, um, ignore those rather conspicuous bullet holes in his coat there.]

You're right, I haven't. An' I dunno if you've heard of where I'm from, either. South Carolina?

Definitely not. My world has electricity and monsters, so South Carolina might be better off.

Only monsters we got at home, 's far as I know, are some of the people.

Oh, we have those too. No lack of them in fact.

....Yeah, I'm pretty sure every place has some'a those. Unfortunately.
