You already are, Kitty. [ he smiles and kisses her gently ] I didn't used to think I could hope for more than just...someone who was okay with being with me. Being with you is the first time I really felt like I can have standards too, like what I want and what I need matters.

[She hasn't had low standards really. But she did grab on to whatever came her way so quickly and so tightly. It's not hard to see why when so much of her life has been marked by loss. She can't even claim Winn doesn't fit that cycle, although she did take a little longer to adjust than she has in the past because she wasn't ready for something serious. But he is still so right for her. They have fun together. They can challenge each other intellectually. He isn't without his own pain and darkness in his past, so it feels like they can understand each other. They are definitely compatible in the bedroom (or bathroom or random art gallery etc.) And maybe most importantly they love each other and they are both committed to making it work.]

[ let's be honest they're going to have some financial restraints for a while. he's not sure how nice a place he'll be able to get them, he's not kara. the big tub may have to remain a dream for a while. ]

Just part of the workout, huh? [She's not trying to make him nervous. So much of this fantasy is just that—fantasy. They are still trapped under conditions they have no leverage with, but she likes thinking of it as their future. As long as he's with her it's a good future though.]

[ to him it's not some distant unobtainable future; they're going to get back to national city, he really believes in it, and he wants to give her everything she wants. it hurts to think he won't be able to. is that what his dad felt, when they were struggling and his boss stole his design? no, that's really not a thought he wanted going through his head. they'll be fine. the deo pays well enough for a place with a bath and a new mattress. ]

I'll be the best couch mover around. If they ever attack we'll be so set. [The money part will definitely be interesting. It still means so little to her. She understands that it exists and that things run on it, but even in the fleet so much is provided at a basic level that her dealings with it are just treats. She hasn't had to live in a world where money was linked to survival. At least not for a long time and when she did her parents were taking care of it. She understands it intellectually, but not instinctually.]

living in the real world is going to be an adjustment. he doesn't even realize how big of an adjustment it's going to be for him as well; he's lived so freely this past year, answered to no one, didn't really have to worry about money which was a big shock - he definitely never expected to score good ratings, okay - going back home is something he very much looks forward to, but it's not going to be so easy to fit back in. ]
