EVENT MINGLE | Dreadhorses's Formal Ball

Who: Anyone attending the Ball!
Broadcast: If you’d like.
Action: Orfwyn Dreadhorse’s personal asteroid
When: May 12th - 13th …. 14th if you really like to party.

Welcome to the biggest party of the season! Grab a date, dress up to the nines, and get ready to party the night away! In other words, it’s a mingle! Feel free to make a top level with any prompts or styles you prefer.

Arrival
There is one open point of access on this asteroid, through Mr. Dreadhorse’s personal docking station. Here, shuttles or ships can dock for the night. There are a couple of points of entry out of the dock and into the actual asteroid, all of them manned by guards who will ask for your invitation to the party, as well as make sure you’re appropriately dressed. Any weapons that can be spotted will be confiscated until you leave, or you will be asked to leave them on your ship. The security searches aren’t too invasive, so if a character has means to hide a weapon, they probably can do so successfully (unless you want them to fail, of course).

Anyone staying back on the ships or barred entry are free to explore the docking area, and they’ll find Mr. Dreadhorse was nice enough to stock the docking area with vending machines you’d find on a way-station and even a slushie machine (flavors come in red and blue).

Dance Hall
Once past the docking station, guests will be escorted through the entryway into the Dance Hall. The place itself is massive, with the place looking like a concert hall and a ballroom combined into one. There’s a stage at the front of the hall, where numerous live bands will play throughout the night. The genres of music vary widely so there’s something for everyone, but there’s one popular song that’ll get played by several bands throughout the night: a song about a band of heroes led by Furiosa, liberating an asteroid from pirates.

Mr. Dreadhorse himself will get on stage and introduce each band, with the same eccentric flair that a rockstar would. Interested passengers with musical talent might be even able to convince Mr. Dreadhorse to let them perform as substitutes for any bands that had to cancel last minute, though they’ll have to prove to him they actually know what they’re doing.

Concert enthusiasts can head to the seating in front of the stage to watch the performances up close. Or if you’re more in the dancing mood, there’s a huge dance floor further away. Don’t worry about not being to hear the music - this place was designed by best acoustics engineers in the system, featuring excellent surround sound and practically perfect coverage.

Food & Drink
What’s a party without refreshments? In a room off to the side of the Dance Hall, partygoers will find a couple of open bars, serving the finest drinks you can find in the system - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The drinks are free, but at each bar, there’s a rather obvious tip jar sitting on the counter. If your character keeps returning to the bar without giving any tips, expect the bartenders to get more passive aggressive.

In another side room, there is a massive buffet of food set up. High quality foods from this system as well as the past couple of systems can be found, all cooked to perfection and placed in a beautiful presentation. Catering staff are constantly bustling about to ensure that the food is fresh, the trays remain full, and everyone is satisfied with the selection.

Between these two side rooms is another, bigger room that connects them, full of tables and places to sit if you’re looking to have a meal or a place to chat. The music can still be heard in this room, but it isn’t so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. Waitstaff are available to make sure your needs are met, but otherwise, they will remain silent and politely stay off to the side and out of the way. They are all excellent at their jobs, and perhaps you’ll even find that your glass has been refilled before you can even make the request!

Live Entertainment
Looking for something to do besides music? Then head outside of Dance Hall and you’ll find lots of other entertainment options (as well as another open bar and a smaller buffet). There are bioluminescent gardens to walk through, and even a petting zoo full of local animals. Out in the gardens, there’s an outdoor performance stage where theater troupes will be performing different plays all night (including the fleet’s own troupe, who’ll be performing the play “Captain Bree and her Lady Pirates”).

Furthest away from the Dance Hall, you’ll find that Mr. Dreadhorse even has his own personal racetrack, where ATV races are being held throughout the night. Passengers may watch the races, or even take part of one themselves!

Private Spots
This is a crowded party, so it’s expected you might want some privacy. Thankfully, it’s possible for guests to sneak away to numerous nooks and corners all over the place: plenty of hallways, balconies overlooking the gardens, quiet outdoor areas... If you’re looking for somewhere extra private, there just so happens to be an entire wing of Mr. Dreadhorse’s mansion devoted to guest bedrooms. All of them are decorated in a way you’d expect a rock or heavy metal star to decorate a private getaway (circle beds, bold colors and prints, fuzzy stuff, etcetera). They’re free for the taking, but remember to lock the door- other partygoers might get the same idea you have.

---------

Looking to steal some stuff? The heist mingle can be found here! The heist itself ICly takes place late into the night and will not disrupt the party, so feel free to have your characters do as they like.

If you have any questions, feel free to direct them over to the OOC post.

[ peggy arrives at the ball with steve rogers on her arm (and not, as one might surmise, vice versa) -- as has become characteristic of these events, she's wearing red. but this isn't the first time she's worn this dress; peggy's rescued it from the back of her wardrobe from where it sat unworn since the first few months she'd spent in the fleet. tonight, in a month like this month, it felt like an appropriate time for the outfit to enjoy a comeback. quite apart from carrying herself with an upright posture, she's also carrying a gun -- holstered low on her thigh and discreetly placed so as to evade detection at the entry. she's got many reasons to be blue in mood tonight, but a spy's work is never done and so peggy pushes her concerns to the wayside. tonight, she aims to dazzle. let the whole room assume she's having nothing but fun.

at one of the OPEN BARS, she orders something amber-coloured and served in a low glass. whatever it is, it's clearly top shelf. although, regrettably, it still doesn't taste quite like whiskey. nearly, but not near enough. this is the time she takes to stand back and get a good read on this room and those adjacent. under the guise of reaching for another appetizer, she comments to a fellow fleeter: ]

Good Lord, the wait staff's got sharp eyes. I imagine one pays top dollar for hired help like this. [ almost implying that they mayn't be merely waiters. a grimace, another appetizer, and then she's moving on to refresh her drink. peggy comes back to the food and drink room often enough, but she's clearly pacing herself between nursed drinks.

otherwise, she's something of a fixture in the DANCE HALL. and although she isn't always dancing, she makes a show of turning down very few offers. she has a demeanor she wants to project tonight, and nearly every choice is bent towards achieving it. her curls are swept up into a classic updo and the red on her lips nearly rivals the dress. there's a vein of drama running through peggy tonight; she won't be the least bit put out if mistaken for a social butterfly, for once. indeed, she may very well reach out for a near-stranger's arm and haul them onto the dance floor. 'modern' styles are not her forte, but tonight she's at least giving them a fair shake during the more upbeat numbers. however, peggy shines best when there's something slower with a regular meter. ]
Seems my partner's gone MIA for the moment. Don't mind pitching in, do you?

[ but once they're turning on the dance floor, she'll drop her voice into an eager whisper and ask this fresh partner whether they've noticed anything strange about the venue.

or feel free to hit her up with a WILDCARD idea. ]

A ) Grand entrance
[When Fie arrives, she's in her long searched for dress with tights, fancy yet functional boots, and a matching beret. She carrying a color coordinated satchel over her shoulder, stopping for security to search it, only going through once they nod the all clear.

Once she's past security, Fie chuckles to herself, an amused smirk in place. Clearly, they missed something-- her gunsword strapped to her thigh beneath the petticoats of her dress. And maybe a grenade or two... somewhere.]

This is going to be a fun evening.

B ) Outside entertainment
[Eventually during the later evening, Fie makes her way out to the gardens. Her expression is one of wonder as she looks around at all the varieties of flora. Sometimes she's crouching down to get a closer look, knees just shy of the dirt with her being rarely conscious of her clothing. Other times, she's standing under a tree looking up or studying it as if she's contemplating a climb. It's hard to tell. No matter where she is, Fie looks happy and almost peaceful.

And of course, she'll visit the petting zoo because who wouldn't want to.]

C ) Let's stuff our faces
[Throughout the night, Fie will make her way in and out of the dining area, though she never sits down or stands in one place for very long. Anyone watching her closely might see she's glancing around at all sorts of places like she's taking mental notes. Of course, there's usually a snack in her hand.

Somehow, at some point, she's gained an additional hat and is wearing it over her beret. Try asking.]

Hm, service is almost as good as Sharon's. Points for that. I wonder what that is...

D ) Actual dancing and Misc
[Then there's the actual dance floor. She has no experience with this, but she does want to try, if the light tapping of her foot at the edge of everything is any indication.

Or there's also other things going on. Do tell! (aka choose your own)]

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2017-05-12 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[No one who sees Natasha at the formal could accuse her of not committing to the spirit of the event. She shows up in a slick suit and sky high heels, her hair, her makeup and jewelry embrace a punk rock aesthetic. It'd be easy to mistake her attention to detail for enthusiasm—but while Natasha enjoys putting together the persona, this effort this time is professional. She needs to fit in with the crowd. She needs a look that won't make her immediately identifiable if she's caught on security footage. If she seems like she's really into the scene, all the better?

She can be caught at the bars, staying hydrated and nursing the occasional vodka tonic, but most of her night is on the dance floor. She has a couple of boys who owe her dances, and she doesn't intend to let them get out of it.

She can also be found getting a little air and clearing her head on a balcony or in the garden. Especial for people who might need to trade information.]

[John is quite accustomed to arriving at balls by himself. --Or with his army friends, but alas, there are none to be found here. It's a pity, he'd gotten accustomed to watching Alexander flirt with any passing lady back before he was married, and it would be nice to at least hear it again, if only for the familiarity. Instead of his usual continental army uniform, he's managed to rent something along the lines of this, rather than anything more modern that he'd be unaccustomed to.

He can likely be found at the open bar, getting cheerily drunk on whatever passes for whiskey or ale on this asteroid, and making conversation with whoever looks familiar and like they want to talk. He's mostly just here to meet people and try and have a good time.

Another place John might be encountered is in the dance hall. Sure, his dances are likely a bit more old-fashioned than most, but he knows very well how balls and the machinations surrounding them work. He's willing to help be a distraction if it's necessary, and he's not too bad of a dancer, either. He's certainly charming and courteous enough.]

[Khadgar isn't the type to attend social events. He's quiet and unassuming. Most of the time. He's happiest among his books and practicing his magic, neither of which he can do here. And he misses how comfortably loose his normal clothes are compared to what Maglor had wrangled him into last time they'd had to dress up and now he's in it again. At least the colors work well for a former Kirin Tor apprentice. And for him in general.

He doesn't dance, instead wallflowering and watching everyone else. Especially Dreadhorse whenever he introduces a new performer. It never hurts to try getting a read on the person running everything.

At the bars he only gets non-alcoholic drinks. Alcohol and mages, at least this mage, are not the best of combinations. The drinks aren't bad though, and he does try a few things to eat. He doesn't want to have to use magic on an empty stomach and that lack of focus endangering anyone from the fleet.

Or maybe you'll find him somewhere else and drag him off to explore?]

[No, it doesn't taste like whiskey, or port, or anything really that John is familiar with, but it's still alcohol. So he's generally around the bar, too, trying to nurse his drinks but not quite succeeding.
He's not drunk yet, though, it's still early and he's kind of enjoying the people-watching.]

Yeah, prob'ly. Hope they're worth the money. [He agrees, with a quick grin at Peggy. Sure, they might not merely be waiters, he's been in enough situations like this before to be aware of himself. Luckily, he's pretty good at playing cool.] How's it goin'?

[The last thing the teen expects is for someone to come up to him and start dragging him out to dance-]

Sorry- wait- I can't dance-

[Looks like he's out of luck, the mage just looking a little lost once they end up in the thick of it. His world is positively primitive in comparison to the fleet and worlds they've visited. Even if he could dance, it wouldn't be the same.

That's... not all her interest though? Oh, she's here because of the Interceptor message too, or so he immediately assumes.]

There's a lot more here than just flaunting wealth. Distractions, something to hold everyone's attention.

[Mostly.]

A.) Arrival and the dance hall

[Velvet had decided pretty quickly that she was going to try to attend this ball, even though she has literally zero experience with this sort of thing. But she just wasn't going to pass up the chance to gather some information, even if it meant dressing up and mingling.

She, at least, did manage to find a dress that works for her and she carries herself with her normal confidence as she arrives and deals with security.

As she enters the dance hall, though, she has to pause. She is maybe a little overwhelmed by the size of the hall and the crowd itself. She's had to deal with a lot of stuff as the Lord of Calamity, but honestly this is new.]

What am I doing?

[She mutters this to herself as she edges toward the nearest wall, trying to stay out of the way for now. Time to find a place to observe while she tries to figure out how to deal with this.]

B.) Food and drink

[Eventually she needs a break from the crowded dance hall and she'll wander into the next room to check out the refreshments. While she does spend some time checking out the buffet and studying the selections curiously, she quite obviously doesn't actually take anything for herself.

Though, she will eventually order a non-alcoholic drink and take a seat somewhere to rest. But again, she isn't hurrying to drink it.]

C) Wildcard

[When the invitations had come through, excitement bubbled up from at least half her former hosts. It doesn't sway her too much either way, she doesn't mind dressing up, plus she did volunteer to help with music for 'Captain Bree' which she doesn't plan on skipping out on.

She arrives wearing a purple dress that shows a good deal of her spots, from her face and neck and shoulders, down to her toes. And before handing over her invitation and heading inside, she does take a look around. This opportunity isn't likely to happen again.

In the dance hall, she might be found dancing once in awhile but only when the music really catches her attention. She's otherwise content to watch and listen, visualizing the notes on some of the songs and committing them to memory. Too bad she didn't have a PADD here to make proper notes.

Drinking... she doesn't. Not alcohol, she doesn't trust herself enough for alcohol yet. She hasn't even been joined a year so she still has a lot of learning to go on what she can and can't handle. This isn't the place for it. Although she might get talked into it, but only drinks that are light on alcohol.]

[ the list of things he has to worry about it getting longer by each passing moment. there is the mission tonight, of course. there's finding kitty and kara. after winn's departure, steve can imagine what state they're in and if they're here, he wants to assure and affirm and comfort. nothing more dangerous than a superhero who's grieving, could lead to some dangerous situations, no one knows that better than him.

there is also another, more discreet worry, with so many leaving, he's only grateful he could stay. still, they'll need whatever they'll find tonight, every bit of information. he and his remaining team has been left untouched so far. he isn't about to tempt the atroma with changing that.

he tries to keep an eye on natasha, too. .I have you to watch my back, she said but nat, much like him, seizes openings and opportunities and steve tries to make certain she doesn't hurry off in pursue of one on her own.

the same worry holds for peggy, too. she and natasha can conduct this sort of mission with nothing but glamorous smiles and their skills with espionage. and yet; the atroma knows they'll be coming, he has a feeling, and they know what these two are capable of. to say he is on high alert would be an understatement.

he returns from another short patrol, inspecting not only the hall but the garden as well. peggy is a force to be reckoned with, mid-dance she's charming and full of smiles. steve has a whole other concern about her. something is going on and while he didn't went on to probe her for answers, not before a mission, he is ever watchful, careful. even more attentive than usual.

one dance ends, another begins and he slips behind her, into her space, as if that spot has been reserved for him the whole time. ]

He spends his time in the dance hall excessively polishing his glasses, smiling and waving at passersby. He sometimes drums along to a tune, but spends much of his time people-watching and enjoying the prospect of real food. For once.

But he's aware enough that he needs to start socializing at some point---so if anyone else is unaccompanied and lonely-looking, he'll be more likely to step up and say]

Hi! How are you?

[Later, he'll step outside, clearing his mind in the gardens, smiling at each plant in the garden and pausing to pet an interesting-looking creature at the petting zoo. The dear animal spits up on him---which he wipes off with a sigh.

But that gives him an idea. He soon trades that suit jacket for a biking jacket and hits the track, going for a wild race or two. He's good, and careful, but not the fastest---and returns, a little roughed up but uncharacteristically thrilled.]
