[Chekov runs into Fenris in the hold on his way to a session of punching bag frustration-venting. He's too polite to express his dismay at finding someone else in the area, but also too transparent to hide that dismay entirely.]

Fenris, hello.

[Fenris does, at least, pause in his punching to glance over his shoulder, and offers Chekov a small smile.]

Oh. Hello, Chekov. Do you wish to use the bag? I'm almost done.

I will use it after you finish. Please, take your time.

[He turns his attention to the weights. He's more of a runner than a lifter, but drifting lends itself better to some kinds of exercise than others.]

I'm almost sad to leave the last system. It was exciting there.

[He nods, going back to his punching. On occasion, his tattoos glow and his fist passes right through the bag, but he returns himself to his normal state fairly quickly. ]

I suppose it was interesting enough. After so long, they all seem to be the same. Every one has problems, or some work to do, or some...foolishness to deal with. There never seems to be an end goal, it's rather...frustrating.

[At least in Exsilium, he had the end of the war to reach for. A goal. ]

[That... is not something that he knew Fenris could do. Is it rude to ask about that? It's probably rude. He tries not to stare.]

It is frustrating, all of this... aimlessness, and our lack of control over our destinations, and how we are traveling and traveling with no reason behind it. But at least there is the opportunity to explore. I prefer this to being trapped in a city or a dome, and I like having the stars.

[Fenris probably wouldn't mind. He's used to the questions. ]

I agree. I would rather this than a cage. Though, I would rather an aim than this...pointless wandering. It seems we are due to live with only what we get, however.

Does this need to be pointless? I think that meaning can be created.

...Of course, we may leave and lose all memories of being here. In that case, everything would be meaningless even if we were to find an aim or a goal.

Perhaps. Perhaps if we could find our own way out. A way to find a new life, with our memories intact...it would be worth something.

[He pauses in his punching for a moment. ]

Something other than where we came from.

I believe that it's possible. It would be difficult to live here believing that everything that happens will be forgotten and that none of us have a choice in where we go after this.

[He puts the weights down and eyes them contemplatively.]

We will find our own way out, and you would be welcome to come with the Captain and I when that happens.

It would. I...would not wish to lose any more memory, especially not of here.

[Fenris chuckles softly. ]

Hmmm. Kirk has made the offer. I am tempted to take him up on it. There is nothing for me, back in Thedas.

Does that mean that you have made memories worth keeping here? That's good.

Please continue being tempted by it. It isn't a perfect universe, of course, but there are good things about it. Russia is there, which is important.

I have, many, in fact. I am fortunate to have met good people, here.

[He chuckles a little. ]

I doubt any universe is perfect. Russia. That is a country on Earth, yes?

There are many of those. [Good people, he means. They're certainly nicer than some folks he's gotten to know in other universes.]

I haven't mentioned Russia to you before? [GASP. But no, he usually saves Russia talk for people like Kirk who expect that of him.] Yes, it's a country on Earth. My family is from there, and if you get to Earth, you should be certain to visit.

Do you mind the cold? Snow?

I have been to Earth before...though it was not much of a world. There had been a war, a lot of the countries upon it had been ravaged. I was in a place that was once Britain.

[He chuckles a little. ]

I am not much of a fan no. I am from the North, in my world, it is...considerably warm.

[He frowns, unsettled by the thought of any devastated Earth. Not as disturbed as he could be, though; Fenris is far from the first person who has mentioned seeing Earth in a less than pleasant state.]

You would like this Earth better. It has been nearly two centuries since there were Terran wars.

[He brightens.] That's fine, you will need to visit during the summer is all. Or go to Sochi. I have lived mostly in Petersburg and Moscow, but I have family in Sochi and the weather there is always warm.

So it is healing?

[He smiles, glad to hear that. When he left Exsilium, it was still in the baby stages of getting better. The first steps to a new, better world. ]

It is? Then I shall bear that in mind. Even if I am not a fan of the snow, I would still like to see it. Experience something new.

It is.

[He's proud of Earth. Terran history is full of ugliness and there was a time where humans came close to destroying the planet through carelessness and war, but they've learned and recovered.]

If you have never seen snow before, then you do need to experience it, even once. But it should be the right kind of snow. Snow can be very beautiful when it's the right kind.

[Fenris can't help but let some amusement slip into his tone. ]

Oh? And what is the right kind?

You know. [No, Pavel, he does not.] Snow when it isn't too cold to be enjoyed, but also when it is not so warm that it becomes muddy. There also needs to be enough to cover everything or the entire effect is ruined.

[The amusement takes camp and stays there for a while.]

And how does one enjoy the snow, precisely?

One walks in it... or, if one is unafraid of acting childish, one can build snow things or instigate snowball fights.

[If they find a snow planet with the right kind of snow, Fenris is absolutely going to be the victim of a snowball attack.]

[And he would absolutely deserve it. ]

...I do not tend to indulge in childish whims.

[Fenris is digging his metaphorical snowy grave deeper right now.]

Neither do I, but for the right snow, I can make exceptions.

[Such is his lot in life.]

It must be something amazing, this right now. [Such an amused eyeroll. ]

[Cheerfully ignoring that eyeroll and pretending that sentiment is sincere.] It is. You will understand once you see it.
