I should probably mention I'm awake again since that's what everyone's doing. Who knew so many of us were sleeping together? [Light laughter. Yep. Okay, more serious face now.]

So, I heard what happened, and I don't want to make light of that. I know what losing a planet is like and it's...not great. [Such understatement.] But I also wanted to provide some distraction. [It's what he's best at.] Some fun. Some potential healing? [For himself too. He's still processing what happened to Okita and the others.]

For anyone who is interested—either over the network or by coming into the Space Bar at the Iskaulit—let's play a game I picked up on earth called, I Never. [He may also be correcting what he thought was awkward grammar from someone saying "Never have I ever." Details.]

So, you take turns and say something like, "I never crash landed on Earth." And if you have then you take a drink. [And he does.] Which is usually alcohol, but apparently [apparently, he says] kids don't do that here, so water or whatever is fine too. The objective is to make the other person drink more than you, so you might just get them really hydrated instead of drunk.

It's a good way to get to know someone too, so everyone's welcome even all those people I don't know yet. I'll start.

I never was born on Earth. [He doesn't drink.]

[If you do meet up with him at the Space Bar you'll see he's actually bartending and drinking on the job! But he has superhuman tolerance so there's that. He may even be responsible and switch to club soda if he needs to. He'll offer you a drink even if you're not interested in the game.]

(OOC: Feel free to threadjack if you want in on this concept with someone else too or just to point and laugh. You might want to check with them, but it's cool with me. And if anything goes to a place you don't want it to go just let me know or give me a heads up if there is something to avoid up front. He won't be intentionally hardcore about it.)

I thought it would be an easy one to get people to take a drink.

[Hakoda is the BEST DAD EVER. It's hard for him to wrap his brain around douchebag dads at the best of times. LOVE YOUR KIDS, DADS, SEESH. ]

If a lot of people drink on this one, I think I'm gonna be even more bummed out.

Let's try an easier one then. I've never kissed a girl. At least not in a romantic way.

[He offers this one as an easy out to stop talking about parent issues he hadn't even realized he would drudge up. Chalk one more up to being totally unaware of how other people process things.]

[He laughs a little at that, taking a drink. ] Oh yeah. Lots.

[It's been like, TWO GIRLS, but Gil doesn't know that. ]

Okay. I have never been to a spa.

[Gil doesn't drink there.] Man, now I kind of want to try out a spa and see if I like it.

I have never.... had a girlfriend? [He's really just trying to pick things to make Sokka drink now, guessing based on how he responded to the kissing one.]

You know, me too. It sounds fancy.

[He drinks, because yes, yes he has. He tries to push back the horrible feelings he's been having about Suki as of late- the decision he's slowly coming to concerning her. That's fine. It still counts in the drinking game.]

I've never driven a car.

What kind of car are you talking about? The old school, internal combustion type or the sky cars that zoom around above the ground?

The first kind. The boring earth kind.

...Unless earth has sky ones? DOES it???

Well, the Earth I'm from does. It has some of the old school ones too. And tanks, and all terrain vehicles, and shuttles, and space ships.

I'm from much later than other people though, I've come to realize.

Huh, that's...yeah sounds a lot later than some of the Earth people I've met.

You don't come from the same world as Kirk do you?

[Sokka, not everyone who has space travel comes from the Star Trek universe, come on. ]

I don't think so? The only one I know comes from my reality is Kaidan Alenko. He's actually known as part of a crew that was headed by a hero back there. He'd probably be long dead from the year I'm from though... [Even without the Reapers, which Gil is going to purposely ignore for a bit.]

Oh! I've met him! He's cool aaannnd [oh there's the rest of it ] probably dead. Wow.

If it helps, I've been on that too, opposite end. Someone from my world's future showed up. It's...pretty weird, isn't it?

Yeah... [He trails off and tries not to think of death, instead he focuses on the next part.]

Oh, that's the funny bit. We were at Earth around the same time. I just went to sleep for 600 years to travel to a new galaxy. It means everyone back home... well... it's been 600 years. Humans don't have life spans that long. But some of the asari I met back there might still be around.

Okay, yeah I think you lost me a little. Why did you travel to a new galaxy?

[Gil shrugs.]

Why not?

But it put you in a sleep for literal centuries. What about you know...loved ones?

The only person I had left was my best friend Jill and she came with me.

Lots of people left more than that though. The science officer on my ship, Suvi, she's a real sweetheart. She loved her folks to pieces but she was so driven by exploring the unknown she left them behind. It's not been super easy for her and others who left people, but the chance to see things no other human has before? It has it's appeal.

Oh...sorry, yeah I can understand then.

Still. I don't think I could do it. Just...go. Not without knowing I had a way to see them all again. I guess this place is a little like that, but if I had the option, I'd be back with them.

I think that says that you have a very healthy relationship with your family. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

Oh yeah, I love my dad and sister a lot. And my friends, they're basically family anyway.

[And he'll apparently have a few nieces and nephews in the far suture to take care of,
too, so it's important to be home. ]

Would you feel differently if they came with you?

I don't know. I still have my people, my tribe. I could never walk away from them. They'll need me, one day.

I think that's something you should be proud of then. Having that sense of community would be impossible to leave behind.

I am proud of it. It's a little more...complicated recently, but it's still home, you know?
