No mister, just Hawke is fine. Or Wolfe if you like.

[He shakes hands with Chekov, pleased at the formal greeting. It makes things easier than just jumping into arguments or whatnot on the network.]

I just moved over to the Tourist. I'm a communications officer too, but I'm more than happy to defer to your expertise if you've got more experience with this sort of thing than I do. Where I'm from we've only mastered ships on water, not even begun with space.

[The question about his name earns a chuckle. He's heard it before, but it always amuses him.]

Hawke, actually. Wolves are pretty monstrous and I'd rather fly. And I wouldn't call me competition at all. Hell, if you want the console, I'll keep hands off entirely.

[He leans against the wall nearby, crossing his ankles and folding his arms.]

You're from Jim's world? Great, I'm sure it's nice having a familiar face here in the Fleet. Provided he remembers you, I mean. That's the trouble with this place, so many different alternate universes or whatever they call it.

[He shrugs.]

I'd be happy to learn, though I don't think I could tell you much about sailing. I get seasick.

[That earns Chekov a laugh.]

No, no, not space sick. There's usually not really any feeling of movement, at least not to be, even if we are moving. It's the back and forth rocking of a ship I can't handle, especially in rough seas. Which is fortunate because missing out on Jarvis' breakfast would be criminal. If I'd known, I would have visited in the mornings before I was ever stationed here.
wolfehawke: (I see what you did there)

Maker forbid. I'll just have to make sure I don't go spreading it around, then.

[Wolfe chuckles.]

So how long have you been in the Fleet, Pavel? I'm sure I'd have met you if it was when I was here last so only a few months, I would guess?
wolfehawke: (You're kidding)

[personal profile] wolfehawke 2017-10-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yeah, I guess we just didn't cross paths.

[He smiles a little distantly. He was here then, and Pavel mentioned Kitty, who was his captain for what feels like only five minutes. It was at least a month...? Maybe? He has a hard time remembering and that feels so strange. He usually has a fairly good memory.]

It's alright, we can just make up for lost time here over fabulous breakfasts.

[He nods sagely, knowing he'd barely even met half the Fleet before his massive coma.]

Right, lessons. It should be illuminating, at the very least.

Diplomacy, no. According to a bunch of the Kirkwall nobility, that's my forte anyway. Maybe we can exchange those skills, communications for diplomacy.

[He's not sure why he even says that. He doesn't feel particularly diplomatic but everyone always says he is so... well, sure. Why not.]
wolfehawke: (smug)

Actually politeness and running are most of it in my experience.

[He laughs.]

But it's also knowing your audience, and knowing what they want. You're not going to tempt a dog with a fish, so you'd best find a bone. Or better yet, a steak.
