One Fish, Two Fish, Blue Fish Mingle

Who: The crew of the SS Blue Fish and friends
Broadcast: Not necessarily?
Action: On the lovely Blue Fish
When: Month of October

[With the tragedy of Lyuku and the entire Eyuzi system behind the Fleet, the crew of the Blue Fish and their friends are now settling into a new routine while they drift along in the relative safety of space.

As one of the few ships that didn't suffer a loss of crew during their little excursion, the crew can safely go about their duties, unless something attacks that is.]

I don't know. We have conflicting information. They say they go home, but then...going home is what you get when you win this game, right? I asked them, once, back when we had different hosts. They basically told me not to worry about where they'd gone-the people who had left- that they were perfectly safe.

So not very comforting.

There were previous hosts? Why the change in hands? [ That's only mildly disconcerting. ] The very moment someone says not to worry about something is about the time to start.

Diamond and Beau.

[Oh, Dorian- Sokka grimaces a little. ]

Uh- it's actually super gruesome- just as a pre-warning if you'd rather I soften that story up a little.

I'm certain I can handle it, whatever it is. [ Hey, he kills his fellow countrymen for a living, now. ] Unless you'd rather tell the softer version.

No, it's fine. Just...wanted to make sure.

So I don't want to go into too much detail because they're always listening and everything. But they lost something important to them, Atroma, and they took it out on the hosts. Maybe Diamond and Beau had something to do with it, maybe they didn't- didn't matter to Atroma at all. So they uh-

Do you have drills where you come from?
fantachetic: (pic#11776228)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-18 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Or something of its nature, yes.

[ You know, dwarves and their mining capabilities and what have you.

..Oh maker. He doesn't really like where this is going. ]
They were an unfortunate casualty, I assume? And these Atroma, what? Thought to serve a lesson to everyone?

Something like that. They were...made an example of. On air. With the aforementioned drills.

[It was not a fun time at all. ]

If you ever want to not sleep at night, it's probably still on the network history somewhere. Our new hosts don't seem to know what actually happened, they baulk away from the truth. So there's a good chance they're being lied to.

I'm going to take a pass and trust your first-hand account.

[ Made an example of. Ah yes, there's nothing quite like a public execution, is there? ]

Or, they know exactly what happened and are playing ignorance of it. It's a rather common ploy to garner either sympathy or innocence of the knowledge.

That is a very good life decision.

Oh yeah, that could be a thing too. I don't trust anyone from Atroma at all. They're all the same, with the fake smiles and the "gosh you must be having so much fun here!!!!". They act like we're all here willingly.

Oh yes, such terrible fun. I must say, evacuating a planet of its people before it turns to ruin rates about as fun as a night of blood magic.

[ Such sarcasm. Much dry. ]

They really know how to make a man feel welcome.

[Sokka might pale a little but at that word, but not for the reason Dorian would first assume. ]

Uh...blood magic? What's that? Just...out of curiosity. I mean, I guess the name speaks for itself. Magic with blood. But uh. Still. Just wondering.

[ Let him tell you some Opinions on blood magic, friend. Honestly, mages who resort to blood magic need to be lit on fire. ]

It's a form of magic that is exactly how it sounds. The use of blood to fuel and strengthen spells. It sounds rather harmless on the surface, doesn't it? After all, what's a bit of your own blood spilled for a little more power? Of course it never ends there. There's never enough blood. Soon, you're sacrificing slaves in order to get the power you need. That much blood? It's always used to corrupt.
alwayscomeback: (To my own regrets ghost)

[personal profile] alwayscomeback 2017-10-23 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
[WELL, THAT SOUNDS SUPER NOT FUN IN EVERY CONCEIVABLE WAY. ]

Oh. That's...really different to the kind I know back home. That's...really bad. Do slaves really get sacrificed? Isn't there a better way to power magic than that?
fantachetic: (pic#11776261)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-24 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ It is decidedly un-fun, yes. ]

I want to say it's not common, but it does happen. [ Boy, this is awkward and also an awful topic. ] There's always a better way, but those who resort to blood magic regularly have difficulty accessing the Fade. So, no. Not for them. 'More is better' is typically the credo for the Magisters who rely on it.

...Of course, its use and legality are a bit blurred. Out in the open, of course it's never used. Behind closed doors? Absolutely it does.

[ Moral: Tevinter's really fucked up, bro. ]

[Every time he learns something new about Thedas in general, his stomach turns. And he comes from a world where a madman was literally razing a kingdom to the ground.]

That's awful. The fact they can get away with it. I can understand not having enough power, but there's always another way to live. One that doesn't involve killing other people.
fantachetic: (pic#11776222)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-11-06 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, there's also that. It's probably not a good time to mention the war with Par Vollen, either. ]

One would think so, yes. Which is part of why I left my homeland. [ And gave up his future seat in the Magisterium among other things, but hey! He's doing what's right at the moment and he's far away from most blood magic. ]
alwayscomeback: (It's empty in the valley of your heart)

[personal profile] alwayscomeback 2017-11-06 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Probably not the best of times, no. ]

I don't blame you. I hope you found something better...though it's still home, isn't it? Even with...all the bad stuff?
fantachetic: (pic#11776234)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-11-06 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It will always be home, and there is always room for change.

[ Hopefully there's something that can be done. ]

I know that feeling. Even if the change isn't exactly what you had in mind, it's better to stick around to make sure it doesn't get any worse.
