And Let Us Gather 'Round [ Video + Action ]
Who: Kirk and The Fine People of the Fleet
Broadcast: Yes
Action: On the Iskaulit, Specifically at the Melting Pot - Note: After the Broadcast
When: After they start heading away from the system
Video
[ Kirk appears on the screen, and probably like many people he looks tired and a bit beaten up. Scratches not yet healed on his face, one even covered with a bandage on his cheek, that sort of drawn look around his eyes after all the sleepless nights and the battles and general horridness. A little to pale, perhaps.
Even so, he gives as warm a smile as he can as he begins to speak. ]
For those of you who might not know, I come from a world called Earth - or at least, one of the versions represented here. On my world, in the country I hail from, we celebrate something known as Thanksgiving roughly around this time of year if I've done my calculations correct. Some people call it Friendsgiving, but it's all the same really.
Essentially, it's a time to a give thanks for the good things in your life, your friends, and your family. In the spirit of that, I've arranged for a gathering at the Melting Pot - a thank you to Jarvis for that. Everyone who wishes to come is welcome.
I just thought we all could use a day, a place, to be together and to just enjoy each other. So I hope to see you there.
Action: The Melting Pot
[ The restaurant is set up to allow as much mingling as possible when people arrive - places to sit, of course, but there's gentle music playing for those who might want to dance and just to give some atmosphere (but not loud enough to stop conversation at all). Food and drink is laid out - things to nibble on rather than the usual feasts associated with a Thanksgiving. Not particularly ideal, but it's what could be managed. Unless, of course, anyone decided to bring something else to add to the spread.
Not a fancy party, to be sure, but it's warm and inviting, which is what Kirk had hoped for. A place for them all to come together and enjoy each other and just be glad they were all there and if not quite completely whole, then, well, able to be there. ]
[ooc: Open mingle! Feel free to create your own starters and do as you like - tis a warm Friendsgiving party for the Fleet! ]

I was thinking both. You can make friends, but know next to nothing about where they're from, what they do, things that might normally give you an idea of what to get them. [Mention of the card idea has her tilt her head slightly.]
I can't remember the last time I did anything like that.
no subject
[He nods. That was also a thing that could happen, and seemed especially true here where everyone was from somewhere else.]
It's been a long time since I have. Not since I was kid.
no subject
Really? You seemed like the type of person who'd love to do that.
[Her words don't hold any negative meaning. She just seems surprised.]
no subject
[He smiles, but takes an interest in picking at the label of his bottle.]
I did! I used to... You know - I don't know if you have this where you're from. We have this day where you give cards or candy or gifts to people you care about or want to be friends, or more, with, right? In grade school, I used to make cards for my classmates. A different one for each person. I'd stay up all night if I had to, and I'd make sure not to forget a single person.

[Kaname listens, biting her lip to keep from smiling too wide even at the start of the story. Something about the image she pictures elicits an actual giggle that manages to escape. By then the story's finished, so she allows herself the indiscretion.]
That's adorable and really, really sweet. I'm sure your friends here would love it if you did that, too.

[He doesn't remember the story too fondly, though it accomplishes two goals. The first, illustrating how much he'd once loved making those dumb cards. And the second, getting a smile and giggle from Kaname. He leaves out the reason why he stopped making the cards - because despite all his hard work, he never received anything in return. And after a few years, it became painfully apparent he never would.
Anyway. He smiles, even as he shrugs a bit self-consciously.]
I don't know. They're all, you know... up here. [He lifts a hand up over his head to illustrate. The hand then drops dramatically.] And I'm down here. Nothing says I'm from a different socio-economic class than you like gifting pieces of paper artfully glued together.
no subject
[Her smile flickers at his description of things, and she slides her drink to the side where it's not in her immediate focus.]
I... [Kaname pauses, trying to think of what to say. She can't speak for any of his friends, even if she does know and rather like two of them. This just goes back to illustrate her previous point: being friendly with someone in the Fleet, doesn't mean you actually know them. So she uses the only example she really can.]
If it were me receiving something like that from someone I'm fond of, no matter their social station or affluence, I would love it. Time and effort and thought go into those type of gifts, and they convey your feelings. Presents from a store can do that to a degree, but what we're talking about is something no amount of money can buy.
[She looks at him, a sheepish look on her face now.] I didn't mean to turn preachy, it's simply what I think. I hope you consider your friends might be of the same mind.
no subject
No. You're right. I know they would appreciate it. They're nobles and all, but I've never known them to be snobs.
[Prompto is well aware that most of his hang-ups are his alone. They had accepted him - every part of him - even the parts he still struggles to accept himself. The economic divide was the least of it, and should hardly matter in the grand scheme of things.]
It's just, after everything they've been through, they deserve more. A lot more.
no subject
[Elbow on the table, she rests her chin atop one hand, the other resting in her lap, fingers silently drumming on her leg.]
I think that can be said for a lot of people, unfortunately. While I don't know what your group's been through, I'm always here to listen. And personally, I think you might deserve more, too.
[Kaname raises her head, bringing her other hand back to her lap. A grin slowly spread across her face.]
Thinking on it, you've only been talking about yourself and your friends this entire time. Are you normally like this?
no subject
[He looks up from his bottle, paling some, and looking a bit stricken. That's got to be some breach in etiquette. Bad manners, at least.]
I'm sorry! I didn't realize I was. I should have asked about you.
no subject
No, no, don't worry, I'm only joking. [Kaname's quick to correct the situation as she doesn't actually want him feeling bad.]
I ask because I want to know, so never worry about that. I promise you're all right.
[But that does lead her into the next question.] But is there anything you want to know?
no subject
[He sits leans forward, setting aside the bottle. It's gross now anyway.]
Like, I know you sing. But what else do you like to do?
no subject
Singing's different. It was the only thing I ever wanted to do, and I still can't picture myself doing anything else. [Kaname smiles, almost wistfully.]
I think I mentioned that our singing cures the Var back home and that we've performed on a number of different planets. Regardless, I work for an organization called Xaos where Walküre's part of the entertainment and intelligence division. Not only do we perform concerts to help control Var outbreaks-- well, we did, it's resolved now-- but we've also done our fair share of reconnaissance missions and spy work. All of our members, Freyja included, went through basic training at the very least.
[She stops to look him in the eye, smile still in place.]
That and more just to continue to sing. [A chuckle escapes her.] It could sound strange to people not from our home, but a lot of our history has idols and singers helping to end wars of global scales with their voices as well as an even longer explanation behind it all. All of that's certainly helped to inspire more people to try and enter the spotlight.
