Tempest | ota
[generally in the winter months back home, Tempest wouldn't be caught dead outside; either she was as south as she could get, or locked up in her room in an inn attempting hibernation. As pretty as the planet is, however, her dislike of winter and cold and other related things puts her in a mood.
But she tries, and she keeps a tight hold on her short temper. There's warm clothes to buy, and she can either be found looking at both more modern clothing or the furs and heavy cloth she's used to, hunched over in a heavy jacket she'd picked up previously.
You might even catch her marveling at some of the faux fur. Fumbling to hold it up with one hand and wondering aloud to the nearby shopkeeper]
But it does not look fake - is it as warm as the real thing?
[priorities]
turning a garden into a zoo;
[okay, look. She had no intentions on adopting anything else. She had a lizard . . . thing . . . and he was quite content to live in her room with the plants that survived the crash last planet. He was cute, in an ugly kinda way. Surely he didn't need friends.
But then she finds the snow leopards and otters and that's the end of the lies she tells herself.
She's on a mission now: find a very specific-looking otter. As close as she can get. Come help her achieve her true purpose as an otter mom]
hunting;
[it's part boredom, part wanting to help feed her crew. She has her sword back as well, and while she might be down a hand, that isn't going to stop her from taking out any remaining frustrations on the poor wildlife.
Of course, having a sword only gets you so far. For the birds she can't reach, well . . . a bit of magic goes a long way]
You should have bloody come down when I asked.
wildcard;
[player's choice ♥]
hunting.
The birds aren't agreeable, I take it?

She bites back her first, ruder response and takes a deep breath, tucking her wrist under her good arm to hide it]
Not at all, I'm afraid. At least, not to those of us who aren't proficient with a bow.
no subject
[That makes sense. And he can relate to a lack of skill with archery. It had never been his forte, despite training in it.]
Striking a bird is hard even for an archer. What are you using instead?
no subject
[at his question she holds out her hand, lightning crackling briefly between her fingers] Magic. Lightning, since it does not cook them as much as fire would.
no subject
You can create lightning? I've never met anyone else who could do that.
no subject
I do not use it often, but mm, I can. Are you a mage as well, then? If you can create lightning.
no subject
Not a mage, no. My brother was always far more skilled at magic. I can summon and wield lightning with my hammer, Mjolnir. I don't have it here though. Yours is a spell, I take it?
no subject
Yes, mine is a spell. For a weaker spell like the one I have been using I no longer need the words, but for more powerful ones I do.
no subject
[Whether Loki would ever call himself a name like that is doubtful. Yet he's more adept at magic and spells, so the billing fits well enough.]
It's a bit of both, really. I miss having it.
What other magic can you do?

shopping!
Feels real, right? Just as warm too. At least it was back home.
no subject
How, though? Fur is fur, I do not understand how they can make fake fur.
no subject
It's some kind of fiber, completely man-made. I guess they just do things to it to make it look and feel the same? Don't really know the actual details of it, just that it doesn't come from an animal.
no subject
How very strange . . . maybe it is because they can make more of it this way than they can hunt it? Or something similar. As long as it serves the same purpose . . .
no subject
Could be. Might be cheaper to make, too. That's how it was back home - real fur was more like a luxury, and some people could get pretty... outspoken about it. [ Shrug. ] Personally, if it keeps the damn cold away, I don't really care if it's real or fake.
no subject
I do not really care either, honestly . . . warmth is what matters to me. I suppose I am just used to the real thing being . . . normal?
locked to Sayid
What is strange, however, is the wrapped gift left in the middle of the bed, along with a folded piece of paper on top. Sayid's name is written on the paper in flowing Elvish script.
The culprit, of course, is nowhere to be seen]

Sayid,
It's my understanding that there is a holiday coming up that neither of us celebrate. Something about a birthday and giving gifts? I suppose the timing lines up nicely with my intentions. I've also been a bit nosy into things that aren't my business as of late. I hope you'll forgive me.
[and then, in the same careful hand, the rest of the note is written in very simple Elvish]
The iris flower stands for hope, and the name Nadia means the same. I thought this gift would be nice a way to protect her picture, as well as your memories of her.
Love,
Aurae
[there is no translation included. What a jerk]

Bits and pieces.
Sayid puts aside the paper, and unwraps the gift. Once he does, he understands...a bit more. But not everything. With the picture frame in his lap, he picks up his communicator and enters her number.]

Hello, love.
no subject
Hello. I got your gift.
no subject
I apologize for my nosiness.
[yep, that's what she's going with]
no subject
I'm afraid my Elvish still isn't quite up to fully translating the last half of your note. Was there anything important in there?
[Of course there was.]
