Re: Shopping!
[ Kirk was happy to have the company - that meant an extra pair of hands to help carry purchases. Recent events over the past couple months meant that his bank accounts were rather fat, so he didn't worry very much about a budget. Not that he was going crazy, but well, stock up while you can. He looked away from the window, having been considering what looked like a set of books wrapped in ribbon. That they had physical books here was enough interest on its own, but... ]
Some books. I wonder if we can read them fully. Fenris would love something new to read, I'm sure.

[He's become decent friends with Jim by now, but he hasn't learned much at all about Fenris other than perhaps a name. Regardless, Lance still looks up to Jim as much, much wiser than he is regarding relationships.]
Then definitely! I'm sure this planet has a ton of books he wouldn't ever have thought of before. Different planets, different people, different perspectives. So, different books!

Yeah, he does. He's been improving his reading skills, so when I find new and interesting book I think he'd like, I get them for him.
[ He raised a brow, looking at Lance at that jumble go a sentence. ]
That would be the idea. You see anything yet? You haven't gotten much.

[Lance is good at jumbles. Great at jumbles. That's his natural mode of speaking, really.]
I'm still trying... I have a few ideas for most of the team, but I'm still stuck on what to get for Keith. He's my boyfriend now, so I want to get him something romantic, but I don't want to scare him away by getting him something too serious? I've never gotten this deep with someone before.
[And he looks sheepish. It's a common expression for him.]
Sorry, I keep talking about my relationship stuff all the time.

More like he couldn’t read.
[ He motioned for Lance to follow him into the store, which seemed to function as a sort of cafe and bookshop, albeit a boutique one. He smiled a bit in that big brotherly way, a knowing way laced with amusement for Lance’s new found struggles. ]
I don’t know that you need to focus on it being romantic specifically. Focus on if it’s something he’d like. Fenris likes to read, for example. Getting him a book in a genre he likes shows I pay attention. That goes a long way.
Think about it - don’t you like getting gifts that you really like? It feels good knowing the other person really listened to you.

[New found struggles, indeed. Things could never be easy with Keith, no matter what kind of situation they were in. But he's willing to step up to the plate.]
Right. He's that kind of guy who's really hard to figure out with that stuff, though. He definitely likes sharp pointy objects but I am not buying him another knife, nope. And I'm still trying to figure out what his hobbies are other than just...training.
[He fiddles with the edges of his jacket sleeves, thinking for a while.]
I know it doesn't have to be romantic, but I kind of want to give him something that means...well, us. Not just us as boyfriends, but as friends and family too, you know? Things have been rough back home, and it's not exactly my story to tell, but I don't think he really still believes that he belongs. Even if I'm doing my best to reassure him and make him feel wanted. I'm trying to think of something tangible that could represent that.

[ Kirk is quiet as he ponders that, his eyes scanning the book titles as they wander the shop. He makes a soft noise to let the other know he is thinking and not just ignoring him, because he understands where Lance is coming from. He strived to make his gifts to Fenris meaningful in some way for the elf, whom he felt starved of such things. Keith was another beast all together, not least because he did not know him as well as he did Lance. ]
There's always something like a family photo, or perhaps you could have the others write some sort of message to him? Maybe on the back of the photo? Maybe there's something that you all could share, as a way to show connection. I have my tattoos for personal reasons, but they serve the same kind of purpose you're talking about.
