I promise you it's far less magical when you're staring down the throat of one, but from afar they are quite impressive.
[A pause.]
Thedas was not perfect by any stretch, there's plenty I would never miss if I were away another hundred years, but there are many wonders and beautiful things as well.
I suspect that's true of just about anywhere, though.
[He gave a self-depreciating smile.]
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to carry on, I'm sure you've plenty else to do besides let me take up your time.

When Anders apologizes, Felix shakes his head. His expression is a little awkward, but still friendly.]
I don't mind. You, um, said something about magic?
[The way he asks clearly begs more explanation, and it's all curiosity.]
no subject
Yes. There's magic in Thedas, it's a gift granted by our Maker, though not all see it that way.
[A brief, considering pause-]
Here...
[-and then Anders' hand comes up between them and a light the color of a clear sky swirled in his palm like a slow moving tempest of energy.]

What does...is that a specific spell?
[...He's kind of forgotten Anders' brief reference to mage oppression, oops. Maybe he'll remember later.]

It's a healing spell, not a very powerful one, but effective. It can heal a scratch or sooth pains and strained muscles. Healing is what I'm best at, followed by electricity.
[At the mention, the blue fades away like falling silk and a burst of purple crackle and branching energy dances in Anders' hand before lacing it's way around his fingers and then pooling again in his palm. He snuffs it out quickly, though, curling his fingers in to close on the spell.]

[His expression is awkward and curious at the same time.]
That's mostly how it is in books back home. Words or, uh, wands.
no subject
Not so strange as you might think, one of my closest friends uses a wand and a lot of the spells she uses have words or incantations attached to them. Mages back home don't need those things, no, but most mages need the focus of a staff to ensure their spell doesn't hit a friend instead of an enemy.
Mine didn't come here with me and I've yet to find the components I'd like to make a new one, so for now I stick with what I'm good at. Once I find a focus, I'll be able to do things I have less of an inclination for safely.
[His smile turns from amused to thoughtful.]
You're a very curious young man. I must admit, it's surprising to find someone your age so eager to learn more about things unusual to them.

I mean, I think it's just...good to learn as much as you can, you know? To try and understand things.
