[He shrugs and grins, leaning against a support beam to take a quick breather before he has to head back out again.]
Really? I thought all this space stuff only worked one way.

[He doesn't quite laugh at his assessment of space stuff and how it works, but it's a near thing.]
Not all, no. Think of it like... walking, maybe. The goal and the basic action is always the same, but other things--gait, speed, footwear, the number of feet doing the walking--are variable from one person to another, and even more variable between species.

[Space sucks and is terrifying, Pavel. It's so bad.]
And that does make a sort of sense. Everyone has their own style of things, I suppose, even shipsmiths.

[Surely he isn't talking about space. Surely the Void is some awful thing in Adalwolfe's universe.]
Shipsmiths. I have never heard engineers called that. It sounds far more dignified, I think.
no subject
Ah, engineers, right. That's the word.
[He shrugs, trying not to get defensive over his lack of knowledge.]
There's blacksmiths and silversmiths and whatall and ships are made of metal, so I just figured...
no subject
No, I like shipsmith. Closer to shipwright, which is also a word for someone who makes ships. Language is baffling.
[He holds up two hand-sized pieces of metal--nearly identical, but one is a bit rounder at the edges--for inspection.]
Which of these do you prefer aesthetically?

[The person who gave him this task probably meant that in a 'display this sale scrap in an attractive way' sort of way and not a 'display attractive pieces of scrap' way, but.]
What are your jobs today? All delivery between the planets?
