[Hello, ladies. And gentlemen. And anyone in between, and anyone not any of the above. The video screen is currently showing a dripping wet, shirtless Lance. However, the baffled look on his face is enough to show that this isn't some kind of accidental broadcast of a racy video meant to be sent to one person.]

Okay, so, uh... I think I'm kind of in a pickle right now. Glitches happen here, right? I mean, obviously they do. I've never had them happen to me before, though. Buuuuuuut... So here I am, right as rain, having a totally normal day. Routine. Average. Nothing out of the ordinary. But then! Then I step into the shower--

[And he gestures around himself. He's obviously in one of the standard fleet shower stalls.]

Turn on the water, and, er... Fall. But I didn't trip, not exactly. Tripping implies you have legs to trip on.

[He tilts the camera lower on his body. Don't worry, he might be technically naked, but he's not flashing anyone. Instead of his usual long legs, he has a tail now, much like a fish's. It's a rich blue color, just as his armor is. Said tail gives a sad flop against the wet shower floor. He brings the camera back to his face. And in fact, if you look carefully, there's something much like gills on the sides of his neck.]

[Once he's actually not stuck in a shower stall, Lance is much happier. Especially now that he has the entire length of the Iskaulit pool to move freely in. It's taken him a little time to get used to how to swim with his new tail and breathe properly underwater, but now that he's gotten the hang of it, Lance is nothing short of exhilarated. After all, it's always been one of his dreams to be a merman. And now, he is! He'll think about all the logistics a little later, but this is something he's definitely going to take advantage of as long as this glitch lasts.

Come say hi! Swim with him! Admire his beautiful shiny blue merman tail!]

[A year ago and in a much different situation, being called "delicious" by a hot girl would be the highlight of his forever. Right now, though, something seems very off by the tone she's saying that word in.]

[Keith had just finished his workout on the Iskaulit when he saw Lance's post. What the hell? This was just the week for glitches... Kitty yesterday, Kaname today, and now Lance? He frowned. Without even responding, he headed straight back to the Huntress, and knocked on the bathroom door.]

Hey... Lance? I'm coming in.

Keith! Babe! My hero!

[He probably should have messaged him with a "please come pick me up the floor", come to think of it.]

Why didn't you just call me?

[He frowned. This was going to be awkward. It was a tight space.]

[...at the rate things are going, Pete really should be concerned about whether or not he's going to suddenly have four more limbs and an extra six eyes to deal with. But for right now he's somehow not, and he's going to focus on being helpful instead.

But still this is like day three of you being on the ship, buddy. You might be cursed. And your new science officer / medic both looks and sounds a little worried, buddy.]

[He seemed to be breathing fine, gills or not- it was getting out without concussing himself on the floor that had Pete concerned, here.]

[He very well might be cursed. With Lance's luck, he wouldn't be surprised.]

I think Keith's probably gonna come and get me... But if he doesn't, I'll let you know. I don't really have to worry about drying out at least. I can still sort of reach the water knob.

[There's a pause, before Sokka raises his hands.]

Nope, nope. To weird to deal with this early in the morning, so moving on. Lance do you need like...help, or something? To get into water? Do you guys have a bath on board?

If Keith doesn't rescue me, I'll put up an SOS, but thanks. I don't think we have a tub here, but I figure if I can be carted off to the Iskaulit, the pool should work?

[It's kinda funny, when you think about it. He's been here for nearly a year, he's seen so much both here and at home... When Keith texts him to tell him Lance is a mermaid, well. He accepts it. Not a single doubt. It's another day in the fleet.

It sounds at least like it isn't one of the worst glitches that could happen, kinda like Shiro's hair but more inconvenient. Thank goodness for that pool. Apparently Lance is kinda happy about it? And Keith is with him, so Shiro isn't too worried. He finishes with his chores of the day and visits Lance at what they consider night with a bowl of fish gel and a jar of juice.

It's then, when he reaches the edge of the pool, that it hits him how weird this is. Lance is a mermaid, and he's here in the pool... swimming and... living for the duration of the glitch maybe? Will he be lonely here?]

Lance...? [He calls out as his eyes start roaming the water.]

[All the logistics haven't hit Lance's mind yet; he hasn't yet thought about how he's essentially going to be stuck in the pool for the duration of this, as far as he's aware so far. And being such a social creature, he's very likely going to end up nagging everyone he knows to spend time with him. Either way...

His ears perk up underwater at the sound of someone calling his name above the surface. It's muffled from down in the water, but he can still sort of make it out, so he swims up and surfaces as gracefully as he can manage. Which isn't entirely so, but he's working on it. Lance grins as he focuses on shifting his breathing back to inhaling air instead of water, waving to Shiro.]

Hey, man! Good to see you! Come to see how awesome I look right now?

...you really are a mermaid. Nice tail.

[He never doubted it, but seeing it is something else. Shiro puts down the tray by the edge of the pool so Lance can grab it, and then he crouches in front of his friend for less awkward conversation.]

I came to bring you food and to check on you. Are you well? Nothing hurts, does it?

Yeeeeeah... I mean, it's on the cooler side of them, I guess? To be honest, I've always wanted to be a merman, so this is kind of a dream come true! Aside from the currently flopping about in the shower bit, anyway.

[He came to the pool hoping to find a cute otter to photograph. Instead he finds something very unusual and very unexpected.]

Dude... Is that a tail? Is that a new thing? Or does that always happen when you get in the water? What is this?

[Look, you may not have a cute otter, but you have an equally as cute merman to photograph! Lance grins up at him, spinning to lay on his back in the water, tail exposed as it slaps against the pool.]

Definitely new. Trust me, I would've totally mentioned before if I could do this on my own. I guess it's one of those glitches that happen around here.

( Ever since Jim had told her about Lance and how he might be able to help her learn to swim, Sansa's been a bit curious about the pool on the Iskaulit. She goes there today, still wearing the impossibly brief swimsuit she'd gotten planetside, and she's a little shocked to see that Lance, apparently, is a merman. Mermen aren't unknown to her. House Manderly uses one as their sigil, after all, so she supposes they must have existed at one point or another. )

Excuse me? Would you happen to be Lance? Jim Kirk said I might be able to learn swimming from you.

[the_tailor]

[It doesn't take long for him to notice her, and...hello, gorgeous redhead (what, he can be in a very happy relationship and still appreciate good looks). He swims over, resting his arms on the side of the pool.]

Jim said that? Well, I'd be super happy to teach you! I'm pretty good at that. Uh, I might not be able to show you all the examples though, because right now I kind of...

[He shifts and gestures to his tail.]

I'm not usually like this, though.

Funny how timing works, huh? I'm still teaching her, but it's a little harder since I can't like...show her examples with my legs.
