[bright and early one Sunday morning, proximity alarms begin to blare. could it be another set of disorienting malfunctions?

no... this one is for real. the Drift Fleet is under attack!

any ship with a scanning array will pick up a small swarm of ships--roughly the same caliber as the ships in your fleet--swooping in fast from distant space. any pilot, engineer, or communications officer who remembers those strange blips in the radar over the last several months can confirm that this is that very same group that's been following them. this time, they're not leaving room for negotiations, and they will not respond to any hailing or threats. they are on a mission.

within minutes, weapons are live, and the fleet is fired upon. suddenly, the casual drifting of the fleet turns into something much more real, and much more dangerous.

do you follow your augment's call and run to your station? do you flee your responsibilities? do you wish you could help and can't? are the captains leading or floundering, and are their crews even listening?

for a few terrifying moments, the fleet will be hammered, and Atroma is silent. you are all on your own, dear passengers. your little ships are not prepared for this, you have not been trained--and your enemies have no such trouble. a few ships are even shot down, forced to make crash-landings on nearby stations.

things look grim as the terribly-outmatched little fleet fights to defend itself... until the attacking fleet suddenly turns and bolts back into the darkness without warning.

maybe the attack was a warning. maybe they were just testing you. maybe something frightened them off.

whatever the reason, you are all left beaten and confused, without explanation at all.]

[During the Attack]
[Axel was just minding his own business, hanging out in quarters, when the alarm sounded. A proximity alarm? What's that about? He gets to his feet to go check the scanners when the first hit comes, sending him stumbling. This isn't just someone flying too close, this is an attack! Great, just what he needs. Slapping the nearest comm terminal, he decides to see if his title does him any damn good when it counts.]

Fenris, I really hope you know how to operate the guns on this ship, because I don't think all the knives in your armory are going to help us at the moment. Ladon, wherever you are, get to the helm now!

[With that, he heads to the bridge to try and get a look outside at what's going on. He's all for a little more excitement around this place, but this isn't exactly what he had in mind...]


[After the Attack]
[Well, the good news is, the attacks have stopped and the strange ships have left. The bad news is, Tourist is limping, and her gravity generator's been hit. After checking the scanners one last time to make sure there's no attacking ships left, Axel sort of tries to swim through the air out into the hallway to go check on the other crew members. It's harder than they make it look on TV!

[He finally figures out he can kind of push himself off the walls and glide with some ease, and he makes his way to look for Solas in quarters and the mess hall, and then to the med lab to look for Asteffiel. Once he's sure nobody's dead, he's got a few messages to send, so he heads to the nearest terminal.

[Bishop, your distress signal has been received!]

Bishop, this is Tourist, are you okay? Krista, Hiro, you guys in one piece? [Please be in one piece.

[Next up, Bloodsport, Three Twins, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Wonderduck, Huntress, and First Breath:]

This is Tourist, do you guys need help? We've got a med bay and some healing capabilities if anybody's injured. [Anybody Axel's gotten to know, you'd better be okay and let him know it ASAP okok.

[Pathstone, Golden, Starstruck, Caprine, and Paisley: he doesn't know anyone on these ships, but he's not completely heartless. Well, maybe technically he is, but the jury's still out on that. So you guys get a more general WILL HELP IF NEEDED sort of message, feel free to respond if you need help, I'm always up for new CR.]

We're alive, but our ship's kind of... screwed. Tim was close by with the First Breath, he helped defend us. We need to dock and make repairs really badly. There's only so much I can do with what I've got on board. Are you guys okay? Is Asteffiel hurt?

We're okay. The gravity generator's busted, for sure--I'm not sure if anything else is broken... but nobody's too badly hurt. Asteffiel's fine, he's more worried about his plants, honestly. They're kind of floating around everywhere.

You hurt? Anybody hurt? I'm not great with healing magic, but I can do it in a pinch.

Belthazar has a concussion. I took him to my brother. I'm a little bruised up and I might be looking at some degree of burns, but that's all my fault, anyway. I'll be fine.

Oof, my abilities can't do much for a concussion, but... burns are something I have quite a bit of experience with. I could come take a look, if you need it. Doesn't matter if it's your fault, an injury's still an injury, and burns can get infected easily.

[It turns out Fenris' desire to Not Die is stronger than his general disgruntled-ness towards Axel. He moves to sit in his chair on the bridge, taking up the weapons controls.]

We're about to find out.

[Range weapons are a rogue's work, not a warriors. Give him a sword, and he can hack anything into pieces. This? This is more tricky. At least he has his augment to help, that's...something.]

[Axel steps aside as Fenris slides into his seat, turning to a panel on the wall to watch the location of the ships as they attack.]

They're concentrated to our 2:00. [He catches himself on the back of the chair as the ship is hit again, and then looks out the main front viewscreen, gritting his teeth. Axel's handy with ranged weapons, but not of a gun or laser sort.] Where the hell did they come from?

[Fenris is quiet for a moment as the knowledge of how to use these things is eerily dropped into his brain. He doesn't like it, it's too much like blood magic. Still, he's nothing if not a seasoned killer, and he has had a shitty week.

He's frankly ready to cause some damage to something. ]

I wouldn't be surprised if Atroma sent them. They seem to have been overdoing the drama as of late.

[After another careful poke of the controls, he swirls the crappy joystick a little, trying to get a lock on their enemies. ]

I think I can work these.

[ Ladon has no idea what he's doing.

Well, no, that's not entirely true. He knows he's booking it for the cockpit and getting seated and strapped in and shit but... At that point he just stares at all the super advanced technology surrounding him. His brain is telling him what each part of the controls does, which is helpful since he can't read the labels on anything quick enough to be of any use. But it's one thing *knowing* this stuff. It's another actually being able to do something with it. ]

Shit, shit, shit. Why can't it just be like a fuckin' car. I can handle a fuckin' car.

[ He starts flipping switches in a way that feels more like muscle memory than any kind of intentional effort. Then he stares at the radars, the blinking lights, and finally at the glimmering blanket of stars out in front of him. And the enemy ships that are fucking attacking them. ]

[He frowns a little--she looks a bit worse for wear, but it doesn't seem too bad. The static is a little worrisome. He hopes she'll be able to get the coordinates through before anything fizzles out completely.]

Yeah, he told me he'd been burned. Burns are home turf for me, so I'm gonna shuttle over once you guys are docked and have a look. He's gonna be hating life if they're bad and get infected.

We're probably gonna dock once I'm sure all the badly damaged ships have space to do just that; I think we'll need gravity to fix gravity. But I really don't know my way around any of these crazy machines, so I'm definitely gonna need a hand making the actual repairs.
