Ah . . . I can imagine. I'm glad they do it, though. Someone needs to keep us in check, and the gods are useless when it comes to that.

I'll agree with that. [Sometimes gods are even the source of it. His God in particular...maybe that's what his father wanted, but Cas doesn't know if he'll ever get over it.] And too many other species are quick to dismiss humans and other mortals because of their limited lifespans. It's truly unfortunate.

Mmm . . . it's a problem I encounter often. But I can't fault them completely - it's in their nature to think like that. [that doesn't mean she won't put them down if she has to, but she can understand it to an extent] Still . . . unfortunate.

[Yeah, Cas gets that too. All the times he's tried to separate himself from his siblings and he goes crawling back, every time. He can't talk about it with the Winchesters because they've been victimized by his family countless times, so...]

Likewise. [He nods back to the fashion show.] Do you want to get back to observing these aesthetic rituals?

Mmm, we'll be here at this stop for a while, and we can talk and observe at the same time, can't we? [she's more interested in chatting with him now anyway]

[Okay, lets a little bit of that shy smile come out as he picks up that cue.] I'd like that. [He's happy too. Finding someone like him who is also of a like mind is...way too rare.]

[she doesn't smile often, but she can't help a little one] I'm glad.

Have you been here very long? I admit I can be a little shy, so I miss a lot of arrivals.

No, I only arrived a few weeks ago. [Tucks his hands back into his trenchcoat pockets, more relaxed.] Though I have to confess that I saw you, when you were caught in your other form. I didn't introduce myself. [More like you hid yourself and spied, to make sure she wasn't some kind of hostile monster.]

Ah, well. I think a few people saw me like that. [at least, she didn't seem to terrify anyone, so it was just embarrassing] It wouldn't have been a good time for introductions.

I wanted to make sure you weren't dangerous. [Tips his head down in apology.] I was mistaken. Sorry.

Apologies aren't necessary - I would do the same, if the roles were reversed. It's better to be cautious.

What happened to you?

My augment glitched, so it kept me stuck in my real form. It was only a couple of days, but still . . . inconvenient.

[Cas sucks in a nervous breath.] But mortals could see you? When they otherwise couldn't?

Everyone could see me. [ugh, it was the worst] Normally, it's only if I let them. Or in their dreams sometimes. But not without me controlling it.

[That prospect is...so alarming. Also sounds like it sucked for her.] ...what did it feel like?

That I wasn't in control. And that's frightening, because I have to be so I don't become a danger.

Has it happened before? [Goes right for those personal questions like he doesn't know he's not supposed to. At least his voice is heavy with sympathy.]

[she doesn't mind; in fact, she likes that he's straight-forward. Still, it's a difficult topic for her. A side of her she absolutely loathes]

Not in many, many years. I've taken steps both back home and here to make sure it won't happen.

Even so . . . if I stay hungry for too long, I end up eating more than just someone's nightmares. I'll eat their dreams, their hopes, their ambitions - everything that makes them human, and all that remains is an empty shell. [she breathes out] It's a horrible fate. But it's part of my story, so I can't completely escape it.

I see. [That sounds sucky. Actually that sounds a lot like the monsters Dean and Sam have to deal with back home, the ones that don't want to be monsters anymore. As reluctant as Cas is to admit it, that kinda sounds like Benny.] ...if it brings you any comfort, should that happen to you here, I will stop you. [He'll burn you out as quickly and painlessly as possible.]

Thank you. [there's genuine gratitude in her voice. While it's unlikely to happen, it's still a worry, so deeply ingrained that were she capable of sleeping, she'd have nightmares about it] Please don't hesitate.

I wouldn't. [Yeah he gets it. There's comfort to be found in having someone around who will prevent you from becoming what you despise.] In a place like this, where it seems like manipulation on that level isn't just possible but more or less commonplace, I can understand the necessity of safeguards.

[she blows out a puff of air, nodding] I appreciate your understanding. It's unlikely that it'll happen, but - I like being safe. It makes it a little easier, to have something to depend upon when this place is as unpredictable as it is.
