[he's already acquired all that he planned to get on this trip, so wandering through the shops and whatnot seems like a good way to kill some time off the cramped ships. When he learns about the prosthetics, though - mods comes to mind, and that's the only reason why he bothers to seek any out. Mods and parts, in the event his arm goes into total meltdown for some reason.

But honestly, it's the ears Ben notices first, not the fact he's run into another Fleeter in need of - well, a fake part. He tilts his head and can't help but mouth "holy shit" to himself, because - look, elves are fucking cool, and you don't see one every day.

But it's only a moment, before he takes a glance at what she's looking at - maybe he can help? That's what normal people do, right? Offer advice? God, he sucks at this]

Uh - you don't want that one. [he gestures to one Leilani seemed to have been interested in] Metal looks like it'll weigh everything down and that'll fu—mess with your shoulder down the road.

[ There's no part of her that really expects to see anyone come up and start talking to her, but it's not as though it's something she's entirely unused to. Being Inquisitor meant people talking to you and telling you things practically every single moment, so when a stranger moves close and motions at the prosthetics she was investigating all she can do is offer a small smile, turning to look at him properly.

She has no idea about his interest in elves, which is probably for the best, but the very fact that he seems to know something about these things means that he is going to be absolutely invaluable to her from this point forward. Technology is still a little bit beyond her and she's still trying to wrap her mind around all the choices that are laid out in front of her. ]

That seems logical. [ Her other arm isn't even half the same weight, she thinks, so the idea of having one that's heavy on her other side will definitely throw her off. ] Do you have a recommendation?

[his only knowledge when it comes to these things comes from having one of his own - albeit these are a little different from his own. Still, he knows enough about them - and dealing with the pain of getting used to them - that he can at least help someone else out. It isn't fun, but it can be somewhat painless]

Well - do you want one for everyday shit, or do you want one that can take a few bumps? [everyone and their mom are some kind of fighter here so he's going on that assumption] 'Cause if you go with the latter, it might be a little heavier to compensate for - y'know, getting beat on every now and then.

[ Anything is better than not having an arm at this point, she thinks, but she glances over at the range in front of them before she sighs. Practically speaking she knows exactly what she needs. ]

I need one for every day use and, perhaps, one for fighting or hunting. I was planning on getting more than one in case something happened to whichever one I managed to find. [ She frowns, fingers trailing over the arms in front of her. ] Whatever might be good with a wooden staff or a bow.

[he likes practical. He nods in agreement, eyeing what's available once more] Not a bad idea. You'd be surprised how easy it is to misplace an arm. [he says, voice of experience]

For every day, then that's up to the lady's preference. [basically, treat yourself if it's the one you're wearing all the time] As for fighting and hunting - [he gives the selection a good once over before picking up one, weighing it in his hand curiously before offering it to her] This one's probably the best one you'll find here - metal, has the fully functioning wrist joints, this'll let you do all those cool staff tricks before you smack someone across the place.

Given my history? [ She just grins. To be fair, this loss wasn't her fault, but she does have a nasty habit of getting herself into awkward and potentially dangerous situations. ] It's better to have at least two spares.

[ Leaning forward, she looks along the sets of arms again. She wants one that looks pretty as well as being functional and that's what seems to be on offer. The one the stranger picks out seems good enough, however, and she reaches out, taking it into her hand. ] I'm sure they wouldn't enjoy a punch from it either.

[he can't help it, he snickers] I hear you there. Magnet for trouble, eh?

[the pretty is what throws him off about a lot of them, but he figures normal folks care about the looks part. He can't blame them, really, prosthetics could be ugly as hell] Nope, punch'll do a hell of a lot of damage. It's pretty great.

[only you think that's great, Ben] Dunno if they have it here, but they make - uh, I guess you could call 'em sleeves? That look like skin so it'll - I don't know, look closer to normal. Or a good paint job would do it, too.

Something like that.

[ At least she's making friends. They're all decorated with the colours of all the teams on this planet and while Leilani has no issues with the green and gold of her chosen group - they're very Dalish colours - she does also want something plainer and unrelated for her every day life. Something as simple as plain metal would work fine, but prettier ones for formal occasions or just because... ]

I'm not very good at hand to hand but it may be useful in the future. [ She frowns, staring down at the arms, thoughtful. ] I'm not very concerned about it looking like a regular arm, at least. Most people who know me are aware of the loss.

That's good. When I got mine that was one of the first things they tried to sell me on. [it'll look real enough, you can improve it in the future, etc, etc. He didn't want the thing in the first place, but it wasn't exactly a choice he could make at the time]

Is this - uh, your first, then? Or . . . I don't know, first techy one?

As long as it works I have no room to complain. [ Which she doesn't. Thedas can make magical ones, maybe, or very well designed wooden ones with crossbows, but these? There's whispers of her being able to move her fingers, her wrist, as though she had a real arm again.

Glancing up, she shakes her head. ] This is my first ever.

I don't know, I think you've got plenty of room to complain. Complaining's good for you. [says this guy, who rarely ever really complains. Though he wasn't expecting first ever, and it gives him pause for a moment - shit. That sucks]

Huh. [...] . . . definitely get two, then. It takes some getting used to.

There are worse things to happen to a person. [ Thinking of her friends? She could probably make a list. Losing one arm doesn't seem like a huge price to pay to help save the entire world, not as far as she's concerned, even if she had been furious at the time.

Looking down at the prosthetics, she grins. ] Only two?

[he snorts] You're one of those types. I get it. [it isn't an insult; anything but. He's the same way about his own missing bits, for all that he encourages others to complain about it]

I'm a frugal kind of person, if you wanna get one for every day of the week, treat yourself.

I'm absolutely one of those types. [ Even if she has no idea what he means she thinks she has a very good idea. She does what she can to be optimistic, even in the worst of situations. ]

I should have some, at least, and I want one that I can work on and improve. Apparently engineers can 'upgrade' it, though I'm not sure what upgrades they're thinking of.

Having one you can work on's a good idea - that way you can learn - uh, basic maintenance and all. Which is important, 'cause they might be fancy, but they can break easily in the stupidest of ways. [wire loose? Forget lifting your arm 'til you find it]

Upgrades mean like - making it stronger, or improving how it moves or how quickly it responds. Or putting in like, places for storage so you can hide a knife. You know, practical stuff.

A spare, then, to play with until I am certain of things? Then I can move them onto ones that I am actually using. [ She wonders if she can try and find some more people to nudge and contact, see if anyone has any extra knowledge on these things. The ideas of what she can add to them fill her with a gleeful kind of excitement.

Hiding a knife, though... ] I think those are the kinds of upgrades I will be investigating shortly.

That'd work. If you don't know the maintenance stuff I can show you, isn't as difficult as it might seem like at first. [. . . oh, right, he forgot something] Name's Ben, by the way, hi. [he offers a little wave for his late introduction. He's bad at those]

For those kind of upgrades you might have to go looking somewhere else - dunno if storage is standard on these or what. But I know where to find 'em. At least, the ones that you're interested in.

I would appreciate it. I've worked with metals like this before, but mostly for armour and weaponry. Never for an arm. [ Her smile widens at the introduction and she nods her head, offering an awkward little bow - as if she's been trained to do it formally but it never really worked. ] Leilani Lavellan. [ She frowns, though, looking over the arms again. ]

I can buy a standard one here, have it attached and then find more?

Yeah, it's kinda like cleaning weaponry, but a little more - I don't know, intricate. [wait is he supposed to bow back? He sort of inclines his head, but stays upright] Pleasure's all mine, ma'am.

[he nods at her question] Oh, absolutely. These are pretty standard, but there's always one built to . . . y'know, last. [in a fight goes unsaid] The port should be universal, or they should make it so you can change it out. [...] —uh, the port is the part they attach to you, by the way. Unless they call it something else here.

I would prefer to be more careful with this as well, at least until I completely understand how it works. [ Kinetic energy and electrics and wires - it all sounds a little daunting for someone who is more versed in runes and magic and glpyhs. It's something to learn, at least, and Leilani can appreciate that.

She reaches up, touching the stump of her arm carefully. ] Then I should be able to buy a set without issue. It will hurt, though?

Yeah, I get that. You'll see what I mean when it's on, though - don't have to be as careful as you think, even for the standard ones.

[he scratches at his cheek at her question, though, because - he actually doesn't know. He was getting a whole lot of other shit done when he got his arm and now he can't feel a thing, so] Uh - it shouldn't? They'll probably put you out to do it - I mean, put you to sleep. It might ache after? And - dunno if you've dealt with phantom pains yet, but that's not something you can do much about.

I will get used to it, I'm certain. After a fashion. [ When she's overcome the odd feeling of having an arm back without the power of the Anchor buried in the palm of it, at least. How long it takes her to get to that point is another matter.

Frowning, Leilani hesitates, glancing over at the arms again, trying not to let her emotions betray her. ] I'm used to the strangeness of the feeling. I'm sure it cannot hurt worse than it did being removed.

It won't be overnight, but I figure you'll get the hang of it fast. You seem the type. [and he's pretty sure it happens faster than it did for him, though he's never really asked]

It won't feel like that at all, pretty sure. [because nothing can compare to that kind of pain; doesn't matter how it was lost] If you're curious about the whole process, I'm sure the guy selling these can lay it all out. Y'know, for education's sake. [what he really means to ease her worrying, but he knows better than to point that out]

I do my best to learn swiftly. [ It's been part of the territory so far - initially when she became First of her clan and then when she adopted the role of Herald and Inquisitor.

Lifting her hand, she rubs her stump. ] I'll make sure to talk about it in depth before I make any decisions. I am not foolish.

See, I knew there was a reason I was starting to like you. [he teases about the "not foolish" remark, but there is some bit of relief in his voice. Folks back home jumped at the chance for new shit and didn't bother to ask for the details - so meeting someone who does is a new thing]
