Fight for her hand

[Aang is vague on what's actually going on. He just knows that Sokka is supposed to get into a fight, and Aang isn't allowed to help, so he's just going to watch Sokka possibly get torn to pieces. Like a good friend does.]

Soooo... who are you fighting?

[Aang can cheerfully walk through the ice and snow in slippers and a basic handmade approximation of his Air Nomad outfit from home. Having his airbending back means he gets to regulate his body's temperature again, and he's absolutely taking advantage of it.]

Looma Red Wind, she's a princess from another planet. Her people battle to be allowed to uh...date one another. So. It's a thing. That I'm doing. Because I like her.

Wait, wait. [Aang holds up a hand.] You have to fight her to go on a date? Why would you fight someone you want to date?

[Yeah, that's the weird part for him. Giant people with four arms seems relatively tame, considering all the weird stuff he's seen in the Capitol.]

It's the way her people work. To be attracted to someone else, that someone has to beat them in battle first.

So... the person who sets up tournament fights are like matchmakers to them? [This is weird. This is so weird. But Aang has also heard of weirder things from other worlds.] How do they date if only one person beats the other in a fight? Do they have to have two fights so they can both beat each other?

I don't think anyone sets them up, you have to do that yourself, it's uh...personal, you know. Like two people agree to it and boom, battle.

[He doesn't have all the answers and he realises at this point he probably should, but he did not think this one all through. ]

Only one person wins, which is the guy, apparently. If the girl wins, then they don't date and the guy has to try again.

Eh. I'd say it's about 60-40 in her favour. Mostly because I've been training but also she's still enormous. And a better fighter.
