Uh-huh. He's named after someone from back home. Just as much of a pain in the ass as the original, too.

[T'Challa, of course, chooses that moment to stop being difficult and instead sits down and looks thoroughly innocent. Because that's what cats do.]

I had a cat growing up. His name was Streaky.

Little bit of both, but more of a friend lately.

[T'Challa is, of course, more than happy to receive attention, and he flops over and shows his extremely fluffy stomach to Kara.]

This is my first pet, to be honest. He just kinda adopted me a couple systems back.

I'm pretty sure Steve's read Pride and Prejudice a few too many times. Which is sort of fair, 'cause there's an awful lot of downtime between systems and a serious lack of books on these ships.

[He's definitely been hoarding a few novels of his own.]

We should clearly organize a book club!

Might have to pass the books around a bit, but it's a good idea. Get people talking more, broaden literary horizons and all that. Especially with some of the weird alien books you find on these planets.

What sorts of things do you like?

Honestly, I got into the habit of reading anything that was around in Afghanistan. It was the same kinda situation there - too much down time, not enough books to go around. I'd absolutely read weird alien books.

[A pause, and then:]

I draw the line at Fifty Shades shit, though.

[Not because it's erotica, but because it's bad erotica. You gotta have standards.]

Air Force, pararescue. Did two tours of duty over there before I decided the life wasn't for me.
