[Well, that all sure happened. But at least you have the waystations! Whether you want to stock up on supplies, work, trade, or visit the very fancy Virtual Reality Dome, it's bound to be a nice break from the attacks of the 5th.

[He looks over her, and he smiles softly.]

It's...bittersweet, I suppose. It wasn't the city that I ran from. I love my country, more than anything else, though it's deeply flawed. The streets, the buildings, they are more dear to me than many other things.

[It was never the places. And that is why the city is empty.]

I ran to escape my family. My father, precisely. We had a disagreement, I wouldn't marry the girl they wanted me to, and so I left.

[ Okay, she knows that Dorian is pretty gay, so ... she can kinda guess where the conflict there was ]

... I'm sorry, Dorian. That's ...

[ She doesn't really have much of anything to compare it to, herself, that doesn't seem insulting ]

I hope you've been able to live the life you wanted to since then.

Not really.

[He looks over at her, and then shakes his head.]

Not until I was brought here, to the Fleet. I didn't think it was possible to find someone who could care for me.

Not to discount you, or Jove, or any of the other beautiful women I've known. It's simply different.

[Different to love and be loved, to not be kept a shameful secret.]

[ Eugh .... Fenris .........

She tries not to show her disapproval though, and instead gives him a smile at the comment about women ]

Hey, no offense taken. You like who you like, right? I know plenty of boys who like other boys.

[He scoffs softly.]

Oh, there were plenty of those in Tevinter. It's not uncommon. What is uncommon was that I refused to live a lie, keep that locked away and private. I didn't want to be someone man's shameful secret, all the while living with a wife that hated me.

It would have been a lie.

[He can still recall his father's words, Halward telling him to stop the foolishness, to do what he was supposed to, and didn't he know that no one could love him? And then telling him to get out, that he was his son no longer.

Nearly two decades of being the son Halward wanted, gone in a few minutes of arguing.]

Selfish, my father called me, for not wanting to live my life screaming on the inside.

Well, I meant publicly, but -- that is really awful of him. I don't blame you for leaving that behind.

[He nods softly.]

I suppose there is little I can do about it, here in the Fleet.

[ino]

There's not much you can do about your dad, sure, but you're free to live your life like you want here.

[serpentis]

Yes, I'm starting to realize that.

[He was far from home, but maybe this distance was what he needed to fully crawl out of the shadow of Tevinter and stand on his own, to know who Dorian really was.]

[ That gets a small, good-natured laugh ]

Fair? What makes you say that?

[He looks away, and he smiles a bit. It was very honest, telling her how he felt. It was new, but he was trying.]

You care about your crew. That's terribly important. It's...noted and appreciated, I suppose you could say.

[ino]

Of course I do. I mean, I know the whole "captain" thing isn't really an official title or anything, but you guys are my crew.

[ She just seems so baffled by the idea of NOT taking care of them. Comrades are comrades, no matter where they come from or what situation they're thrown into. ]

[He chuckles softly.]

I'll be out of here soon enough, and back to the ship. I only regret that I am not an engineer...there's little I can do to help with repairs.

Let me know what parts we need. Maker knows with the way that drama seems to follow me, I can spare a few credits.

Between all of us I'm sure we can get everything we need in no time at all.

As for the engineer thing ... [ She leans back on her hands with a little smirk. It's such a dumb way of telling him about this, but a joke it is ] Guess who's got an expert for a boyfriend.

[ Not that Ino is the type to go dating someone just because of that. It just happens to be a convenient arrangement. ]

[He raises his brows and grins.]

Oh? Do tell, now I'm quite intrigued.

[ino]

Uh-huh. You might have seen him around the ship a little. Dark hair, about six feet ...

His younger brother is the one who fixed our showers awhile ago, too. [ You know, so they could have a reasonable amount of hot water ]

[serpentis]

Oh, that one?

[Dorian chuckles softly.]

I suppose I must commend your taste, Ino. He seems like a fine man.

[ino]

[ She smiles, this time a little less smug and a little more, well, actually happy ]

You think so?

[serpentis]

I do! Fortunate for you that I've found one of my own, or I might even be tempted to steal him from you.

[He chuckles softly.]

[ino]

[ Oh my god. She laughs ]

I better not catch you looking at his ass, alright?

[serpentis]

I assure you that you will not catch me. Or would you rather I look at yours? I would not argue that.

[He smiles to himself, pleased.]

[ino]

[ She just gives him a Look and nudges him in the side with her elbow ]

Dorian ...

Whatever am I to do? Surrounded by the finest asses in the fleet! What a fate.

[He laughs, mock-swooning and leaning against her.]

[ She's laughing, too, and patting him on the back consolingly ]

I'm sure it's a heavy burden to bear. But I bet if you ask real nice, your boyfriend will let you cry on his shoulder about it.

[serpentis]

Only if I ask him terribly nicely.

[He smiles.]

Is that what I am to call him? Boyfriend? I'll admit I was a bit lost as to that part.

[There was amatus, but that was a personal word, and he certainly couldn't go and explain the nuances of Tevene to everyone.]
