[Well, that all sure happened. But at least you have the waystations! Whether you want to stock up on supplies, work, trade, or visit the very fancy Virtual Reality Dome, it's bound to be a nice break from the attacks of the 5th.

[ And then she's glancing around at the sickbay again. She's trying to determine, like with the illusions/genjutsu she knows, what exactly is "casting" it ... ]

So ... how do you get this to work, exactly? Does it just look at your memories and project from there?

[dancingmd]

[Shaking her head.] The images are generated by the computer, via verbal commands. There are some pre-set scenarios already in the computer that you can choose from, for example....

Computer, take us to the beach!

[The sickbay shimmers away, to be soon replaced with a generic seaside scene: blue-green waves crashing against a white sandy beach, a few people playing volleyball with a big rainbow beach ball, a little kid building a sand castle while his sister splashes in the water nearby, a couple walking hand-in-hand along the water's edge.]

But, if you want something more specific, you have to describe it in as much detail as possible to the computer. It took me a while to get the Enterprise exactly right. Even so, I left a lot out. But, we can still see all the main sights.

Computer, Ten Forward.

[The scene changes once again, this time to Ten Forward, the bar and lounge of the Enterprise. Outside the large picture windows, you can see Earth, floating serenely in space.]

[ino]

[ She watches, observing closely as it changes ...

And then she glances out the window. Ooh, pretty planet! She doesn't pay it much mind, though, because she has no idea what that is. ]

Seems simple enough, I guess. I wonder ...

[ Maybe she could try to recreate her house or something ... ? ]

[dancingmd]

I can help you program something, if you'd like.

[ino]

Really?

[ She brightens ]

It'd probably be really hard to do a whole city, wouldn't it? Maybe a house would be easier to start.

[dancingmd]

I think we could manage a city, if we work together on it. But a house would be a good place to learn the basics first. I assume you were thinking of your own home?

[ino]

[ She nods. ]

It's not very big, so hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult.

[dancingmd]

Not at all! We can start now, if you'd like?

[ino]

Uh -- okay! I mean, if you want to see it, I guess.

[ She laughs sheepishly ]

So, do I just start describing ... ?

[dancingmd]

I would love to! [Exploring new places is kind of part of her thing, you know?]

Hold on, let's start from a clean slate. Computer! End program.

[Ten forward disappears and all that's left is a bare room with a single computer console by the front door. Beverly crosses over to the computer and gestures for Ino to follow.]

Computer, initiate new program. Um... [Turning to look at Ino.] What would you like to name it? This is so we can easily find the program later.

[ino]

Uh ... I don't know, just "Ino" works, I guess ... ?

Or maybe "Konoha", if I can eventually add more parts of my village to it ...

[dancingmd]

[Nodding]"Konoha" might be best then.

Computer, initiate new program: Konoha. Parameters: single-family dwelling.

[A very generic one-room, unpainted home forms around them.]

All right, now just tell it the basic structure to begin with... how many rooms, the color of the walls, building materials, etc. Then we'll move on from there.

[ino]

[ I am way too lazy to write out everything she would be saying to Beverly, but eventually she describes a pretty simple, small and cluttered two bedroom house. It's very Japanese in style, with the sliding paper/wood doors. ]

And then, downstairs is the flower shop ...

[dancingmd]

[As the flower shop's details come to life through Ino's descriptions, Beverly looks around excitedly at all the plants.]

Oh how beautiful! I wish Keiko could see this.

[ino]

[ She's taking a moment to pet a tulip, but she looks up in curiosity ... ]

Keiko ... ?

[dancingmd]

A friend back home. She's a botanist!

[ino]

Oh, yeah. [ She looks back down at the flowers next to her ] Well, most of this is my dad's handiwork. He's old enough where he didn't get called in for missions so much anymore, so he was here a lot more than me.

[dancingmd]

Missions? Is your father in the military?

[ino]

[ She looks at Beverly, confused, for just a moment ... since Beverly is one of the few people who've seen her family's secret powers. But then she remembers that she .. never really asked for the context behind them, and so Ino never gave it.

She grins ]

The people of my family have been ninja for generations. My dad has been the head of the whole clan for years.

[ So now that he's dead, that responsibility will pass on to her, assuming she survives the war ]

[dancingmd]

[When you work with telepaths and empaths regularly, Ino's abilities aren't going to phase you much. A Vulcan mind meld might work a little differently, but the concept is much the same. Ninja, however... Beverly's never met a real, live ninja before. They're something that are only in the history books where she's from. Beverly doesn't know much about them, but she does seem to recall that they were assassins in Feudal-Era Japan, which does give her some pause. She nods slowly.]

There were ninja in my world long ago, but I'm afraid I never learned much about them. What exactly is it that you do?

[ino]

Depends on the world, or so I've heard. In the case of mine, though, in general we're a sort of for-hire type of warrior. We get paid to be a bodyguard, to retrieve information, so on and so forth. There are people in charge of ranking the missions so nobody takes on more than they can handle or puts themselves in unnecessary danger.

My family specifically is in charge of our village's Department of Interrogation.

[dancingmd]

Interesting.

[She's doesn't like the sound of a Department of Interrogation, but its hardly her place to say anything. That's Ino's world, not hers.]

So I take it you know martial arts then? I ask because I have some training in a martial art from my universe called mok'bara. [she laughs] I'm sure I'm nowhere near as good as you, but I was thinking of maybe starting some classes for anyone who was interested and well, maybe we could make it some sort of cultural exchange, see all the different styles people in the fleet use.

[ino]

[ She laughs ]

That could be pretty interesting. I'm admittedly not that great at hand-to-hand combat, but I know the basics, anyways.

[dancingmd]

Well then, we could help each other improve!

[She thinks for a minute]

You don't happen to know anyone who does any sort of metalwork in the fleet do you?

[ino]

Metalwork ... ?

Um, I think Malak said he was trained in smithing and stuff like that, if that's what you mean.
