Really? I think they're fun - kind of charming, actually.
[ He grunted and dismounted from his bird, patting the beast and letting it graze as he spoke with Daryl. He nodded down towards where the mist flowed, like ocean currents. ]
You thinking about heading down in there?
no subject
[ Honestly Daryl can't think of any reason to. There're enough rumors about people getting sick, and really-- for what reward? Some kind of mythical treasure? Bull, he thinks. ]
Are you?
no subject
I’ve already been down a couple of times. Not very deep, but into it. It’s... creepy to be sure.
[ He shrugged. ]
I’ll probably go down deeper, but I want a partner to do so. Going down without a buddy seems like a very good way to never come back up.
no subject
[ Yeah, okay, they could get gas masks but still. ]
What's down there that's worth it?
[ He's curious. Not likely tempted, but you never know. There's been enough on top of these seasick floating isles to keep him busy, he hadn't bothered digging too much into what's going on below. ]
no subject
Maybe a lot, if you believe the stories about the treasure. Mostly I'm just curious - why it's there, what it's hiding. And I think, sometimes, when we come to places with mysteries like these, that maybe we can find something that might help us, or might help us make more sense of our situation.
Because if you ask me, the planets that are chosen? They aren't random.
[ A shrug. ]
Probably a ridiculous long shot, in all honesty, but I always think it's worth a honest go at it.
no subject
[ Because the more they know, the better equipped they'd be to fight back. No one wants that from their captives, he figures, so nothing can be trusted. ]
Dunno. Not interested in treasure, [ he adds with a shrug. ]
no subject
No, it never does. But we've been on planets before, where what I can only think are older versions of the Marsiva have crashed. We didn't learn much, but it did tell us that other ships like the Marsiva have existed, or do exist. And that's something. So, maybe there's something down there. By accident or design.
[ He looked down at the mist, watching it swirl. ]
Treasure hasn't even been my thing either. Answers, though, I like those.
no subject
[ But at least that makes sense. More than chasing some story about glory and riches into a toxic dump. ]
Good luck, man.
no subject
Heh, thanks. Hopefully there's something down there we can come back with to make it worth it.
[ He stretched his arms above his head briefly, groaning under his breath. ]
How are you doing? It's been a month almost now for you right?
no subject
[ That's actually pretty true. After the world ends, if you survive, you become adaptable pretty much by default. There's always some new godawful complication, it's not that different here. ]
Better when we land somewhere.
no subject
It always is. I like living on ships - it's my job back home - but I definitely have more room to move.
[ He rubbed the back of his head. ]
You know, if you ever want to come around to my cabin and share a drink, you're welcome to. Or we can go hit up Malum.
no subject
[ So being on any spaceship, he'd probably feel trapped. Let alone the little ones.
He nods, though. ]
Sounds good. Get a little stir crazy when we're just... [ drifting. He waves vaguely skyward. ]
no subject
Yeah, I know what you mean.
I have some cards and a 3-D chess board in my cabin, if you ever want to change gears and kind of get out of your head. Have you spent much time on the Iskaulit? There's a gym and swimming pool there, and a dojo now too - run by Kogarasumaru. I actually could use another sparring partner, if you're up for it - ah, with martial arts, not swords.
no subject
Dunno martial arts, but we could spar.
[ He thinks he could hold his own anyway. ]
Good havin' everyone in shape.
[ In case something goes wrong again, like at the waystation. ]
no subject
Heh, yeah, that's what I think too. I was thinking about putting out a notice, seeing if we could get some sort of sign up or rotation so people could have usual partners, or at least find someone. I don't want to lose my touch.
[ He made a fake punching motion. ]
no subject
We run into trouble a lot?
[ He's curious, honestly. He hasn't seen too many planets. ]
no subject
[ He took a breath as he wondered how to answer that. ]
I don't know if you would be called trouble, but they can be dangerous. We've had a few where it's been outright hostile, but thankfully not to many.
no subject
Things don't have to mean to kill you to do it.
no subject
No, I suppose not. I guess what I'm trying to say is we don't always go to places that are dangerous, but we hit enough of them that keeping up your skills is highly recommended.
no subject
So he nods. ]
Good way to keep busy.
[ because between planets it sure seems like it could get boring, and he honestly doesn't know how to deal with not having work to do. ]
no subject
Do you want to set up a regular sort of practice session?
[ He cocked his head at Daryl, clearing hoping the other would say yes. ]
no subject
[ It's maybe a little overkill, but once they're drifting again he knows he'll be glad for the distraction. ]
Like I said, dunno nothin' fancy, but good practice. Anyone else wants to join up, we'll work it out.
no subject
Twice a week is perfect. If you like, I can teach you some too. I lead classes and helped instruct self defense at Star Fleet.
[ Not to mention he was well fortified between Atroma's upgrades and Khan's DNA. He could take the practice hits. ]
no subject
[ He's not inclined to turn down anything that might give them an edge on survival. ]
Think the rest of the crew could handle themselves, if we find trouble?
no subject
Anders surely can, and I have faith in Chekov. He serves under me back home, so he has the training. I'm guessing you can handle yourself just fine?
