[He presses forward enough to drop a kiss on her cheek.]

[The quick kiss gets a happy hum, and Kaname straightens a little to focus.]

Just... tug on the rein when I want her to turn?

Yeah. She doesn't need a lot of coaxing.

[She's a good bird, and obviously well-trained. He hooks his chin over Kaname's shoulder and wraps his arms around her waist to hold on.]

[She takes a moment to settle in, then nudges the bird into movement, veering a little to the left as the path in front of them does.]

For all I've done back home, riding a giant bird was never an experience for me.

Until I left Insomnia, it wasn't a thing for me either. No need to ride around on birds in a place built for cars.

I can't say I was ever on a planet that readily offered the chance before now.

[Speaking of-- Kaname spares a side glances at him and meets his eyes, her smile reserved just for him.]

What about the other birds? The ones that actually fly. Do you want to try that?

Well, now you have.

[That is his favorite smile. But it doesn't stop his stomach from dropping some at the thought of flying on one of those other birds.]

Uhm... Not - not really? I mean, if you want to, we could...

[She squeezes his hands with one of hers.]

I wasn't sure how your aversion to heights worked. Don't worry. [Kaname tilts her head to rest against his for a moment in a show of reassurance.]

I don't want you doing anything you're not comfortable with just to try and make me happy, okay?

If the fall can kill you, I'm pretty much opposed.

[He gives her a squeeze around the middle in response, and gratitude. Though being afraid of things didn't really stop him from walking right into dark caves with high ledges, or fighting giant bugs and snakes, if that was where he needed to be.

He'd honestly do anything if it made her happy. But he nods against her shoulder.]

It might be a good thing you've never seen me in my line of work, then.

[She hums a little and guides the bird over to the side of the path beneath a tree before slowly stopping. Once safely out of the way, Kaname released the reins and snuggles back against Prompto, eyes closing peacefully.]

You know, this was calmer than I thought it would be.

You've got rockets under your skirt. I can guess.

[And he would probably have a heart attack if he ever saw he jump from a plane.

He make a contented sound and perches his chin on her shoulder.]

It's nice. We didn't have a lot of opportunities for leisurely rides back home.

[Kaname chuckles lightly at that, nudging him a little.

His chin on her shoulder gets her to crack an eye open and look towards him.]

Were you running around on chocobos after you crashed the car?

[She's got his number.]

[Less crashed and more stopped working while he was behind the wheel. Unless you count the puppy incident.]

I wish. There were no chocobos to rent at the time. We had to push that thing all the way Hammerhead.

[She giggles, squeezing his hands.]

What's the Hammerhead?

A little stop-over a ways outside the city. Lucky for us, there's a garage there. Cindy fixed the Regalia right up!

[It feels kind of weird, invoking the name of someone he had an infatuation with for so long. But the name slips out before he can think too hard about it. Not like it matters, right? The only thing she made heart eyes at was the king's car.]

[He can bet Kaname notices the way her name sounds. She's about to reply when the bird shifts underneath them. Laughing, she sits forward away from his grasp.]

Let's get down and give her a break. It looks comfortable enough under the tree, anyway.

[She'll wait for him to dismount first before getting down herself.]

[It does look comfortable, though he could stay on the not-chocobo all day.]

Sure. I've got some food for her.

[He swings down and offers a hand up to help her down.]

[While she certainly doesn't need to assist, she definitely won't refuse it. Kaname takes his hand and puts her other on his shoulder, hopping down. Following that, he's pulled in for a proper hug and given a quick kiss on the lips.]

You're a good bird carer.

[She goes to sit under the tree while he feeds the creature, and only once he's settled beside her does she ask.]

So, who's Cindy? [There's some teasing in her voice, but she genuinely does want to know.]

[He grins like an idiot at the kiss and compliment, and goes about showing how good a bird carer he can be by feeding the bird some greens he brought along and coaxing her to lay down nearby. Once he's sure she's settled, he joins Kaname by the tree, dropping down next to her and leaning back on his hands.

And then rocking forward immediately.]

Uh... She's a mechanic. A really good one. We ran a bunch of errands for her. But usually the stuff she wanted us to fetch, she used to upgrade the Regalia. She runs the garage in Hammerhead with her grandpa.

[She chuckles a little, shaking her head. He did answer the question with some good information, but not all of it. Kaname looks at him with a calm smile.]

Come on, Prompto. I've heard you talk about photography and chocobos, I know what it sounds like when you mention something you really like. [Or someone~]

U-um...

[Oh. This is ... awkward. ]

W-well, she is pretty. And I may have, um... had a crush on her? Sort of. But-but not any more!

[Kaname scoots over and takes his hand, squeezing it in reassurance.]

It's fine, I promise. [She's still smiling at him.] I just want to know what it's like at home for you, and having feelings for someone is a big part of that, too.

Besides-- [She leans her back against him so he can hug her if he wants to. Either way, it's a good resting position.] I got what matters in the end.

...Oh.

[That's okay, then. He's not going to bring up Aranea any time soon, but it's good to know she's not upset about it. He puts his arms around her, nervousness turning to something more contemplative.]

It feels like it was ages ago, anyway.

[And it has been over a year since he's seen his world.]

The almost chocobo ride is what matters, if you were wondering.

[It's a silly, not at all true thought tucked in there to easy any awkwardness that might be remaining. His remark about the time causes her to turns in his hold and look him in the eyes.]

I'm sorry. I know some horrible things have happened, but it's still sad to be away for so long.

[He shrugs, though he tries for a weak smile.] I'm not unhappy here. It'd be better if Ignis and Gladio were here, too. But there's not a whole lot to go back to...
