So, a certain idol had a birthday on the 17th, but she never really keeps track of it. Sadly, it's left up to the likes of Kaname to make sure that someone knows how old the other members of Walküre are. As such, now that they're in the new system, plans have been made, things done, people invited via word of mouth.

Anyone who wants to wish Mikumo a Happy Birthday should come to the Melting Pot on the Iskaulit at 7pm tonight. Oh yeah.

Grand Entrance

When Kaname asks her to show up at a certain place at a certain time, Mikumo is curious but she doesn't really press. Sure, she could be obnoxious and ask her friend a million questions, but she doesn't.

Instead, she shows up, on time, and is ready to start poking around. Except, she's only been to one birthday party. And she never expected this.

"What's going on?"

There might not be any machines set up, but it's not like Mikumo needs music to back her up.

And, well, it's not her if she's not singing! Come and listen or join her if you know the words.

"Is this cake safe to eat?"

Look, Kitty told her they don't have actual milk and the food has been questionable at best. It looks good, but for all she knows, it could be all protein gel. And it has four candles.

[When Mikumo looks at her all confused, Kaname smiles a little sheepishly.]

It's an attempt at a birthday party. A few days late, but I had to wait until we could get decent decorations. [Like the musical note covered streamers.] I know it's harder since you don't know many people yet, but I still wanted to do something for you.

A birthday party?

[Leave it to Kaname to remember Mikumo telling her she'd never had anyone make any sort of deal out of the day she was created. She should have expected this, but it's been just another day for the last three years...]

Isn't there supposed to be singing then?

[axi]

[Her sheepish smile turns into a knowing one.]

Without the other girls? I'll see what I can manage.

[Silly Mikumo. Kaname heads over to a table with a few presents on it, holding one out to her.]

Of course, if you don't want anything, I can take them back.

Do we really need them?

[It's nice to have the others, but neither one of them is a slacker in regards to vocals. Besides, her birthday.]

What do you mean? They're mine, right?

[Gifts. ALL HERS!]

Why wouldn't I want them?

[He hasn't spoken to Mikumo yet, no. But she's a good friend and apparently team (band?) member of Kaname's, so Lance figures he might as well swing by her birthday party and say hello.

It doesn't take him long at all to spot her, and he smiles as he strolls his way over.]

Mikumo? Hey. I'm Lance, and I'm a friend of Kaname's. I wanted to come by to wish you a happy birthday.

[It's okay for strangers to show up to the party. For the most part, everyone here in the Fleet is a stranger to Mikumo, except for Kaname and Messer. And even then....

But she's not against saying hello to anyone that is on good terms with Kaname.

At the sound of her name, she turns to the newcomer and gives him a half-smile.]

Hello, Lance. Thank you for your well wishes.

[She's still not sure she's okay with the birthday party. It's the first, but she is okay with the attention.]

How do you know Kaname?

Originally she was a mutual friend of my boyfriend's. Then I got to know her, and she really is awesome. She's been actually giving me idol lessons. Sort of. They seem to be, like, more actual physical and endurance training things than anything...

[He sighs, but laughs.]

So how old is the birthday girl?

Boyfriend, hm? [Everyone's pairing up.]

Idols do a lot more than just look pretty and sing pretty songs. I'm glad she's putting you through the ringer. [Mikumo's smile turns a bit hard.] Be glad it's not me. She's the nice one.

[And his question, she points to the cake with its infamous four candles.]

It's customary to put the same amount of candles as the years a person has, yes? Then mine is correct.

"Probably. Real question is if it tastes good."

Who knew what was used to make it?

Anyway. "Happy birthday! Looks like there weren't enough candles, huh?"

Ah, it's Kaname's boy-toy. How nice of him to show up. No, really. She means it. She knows so few people that anyone she has actually spoken to before now is rather rare.

"Oh, I'm not really worried about taste. I heard Messer made it."

He does everything well because he pushes himself as much as Mikumo and Kaname do.

She smiles awkwardly at the well wishing. "Thank you, but no, those are correct. I have been alive for four years as of the seventeenth of August 2068."

Messer can bake too. Awesome. "Oh. That ... that's cool."

Give him a minute to absorb this news. He's seen four year olds. They don't look like that. "Are you kidding, or ... for real? You've aged well!" For a toddler.

Messer is a man of many talents, but from what Mikumo can tell, so is Prompto. "I've yet to taste it." She looks over him with a smile. "You first."

His reaction makes her blink before laughing. Long and loud. "Yes, I have, haven't I? This is why everyone has to make sure I stay out of trouble. I'm the youngest, after all."

She's said something similar to Hayate. It's still true now.

[He will try his very best not to be offended by her questioning. It is her birthday, after all.]

Why would we serve you anything that wasn't edible?

[She has nothing against Messer, or his cooking. But she's seen the food that gets "stocked" on these ships. She has questions.]

I'm still trying to get over the thought that sea spiders on Ragna are a wide spread favorite. I'm not sure I want to know what you used to make this cake, Messer.

[She sighs and swipes her finger through some of the icing before popping it in her mouth. There is something that is a bit of surprised pleasure as butter and sugar hit her tongue. Like they're supposed to in these cases.]

Where did you find eggs around here?

[What the heck you don't just stick your fingers in a cake. Wait till you've had your piece cut. She is definitely four years old.]

Kaname was able to acquire them from a friend, as I understand it. They're unusual, and won't taste right unless prepared properly, but they do the job.

[ikenai]

[Excuse you, it's her cake. And it's the first that she's ever had made for her. She'll do what she wants.]

Well, I'm sure that it'll taste fine. I can't imagine you failing anything you set your mind to doing.

[They have that in common.]

[It wasn't a hard event to plan, not really. She got some decorations from the new system, got Messer to make the cake with ingredient assistance from Lance and Mikleo, and located a few items that would serve as good presents. A few invites sent to some people Kaname knows she's met, and they're good to go.

So here she is, enjoying spending time with her fellow Walkure member and whoever else might show up. Come catch her eating cake, checking on something away from the party, or just asking her what's going on. She might even have an answer.]

[Birthday parties aren't really something that happens back home. Sure, they have birthdays and exchange gifts, but parties during wartime are really hard. And a little impractical.

But, Lucina is more than happy to come and wish a friend of Kaname and Messer well. She doesn't know her well, but she doesn't show up empty-handed. She has a book about music that she saw on the last planet for the other woman in a hope that it will be okay.

When she sees the redhead, Lucina makes her way over with a smile and hands over the wrapped book.]

Hello, Kaname. I suppose the guest of honor hasn't arrived yet?

[axi]

[If she's honest, she'd admit that seeing Lucina here is a surprise, but not an unwelcome one. The other woman never struck her as a party goer in any of their encounters. Still, she's happy to be proven wrong in some cases. Her lips turn upwards in a welcoming smile, and she nods.]

I was about to go fetch her actually. I'm glad you decided to join us.

[Lucina is not much for parties. However, Kaname and Messer are friends. And She hasn't really seen or spoke to either of them much since the incident in the abandoned building. And why would she turn down the chance to at least meet another friend of theirs from their world. A birthday party might not be ideal, but it is what it is.]

I'm not at all certain what she would like, but I found a book of songs on one of the stations between jobs. I figured that if she were your friend then she'd like music as well.

[Messer is staring down at the finished cake, his expression judgmental and vaguely doubtful. It looks fine, in theory. Appetizing, even. The icing is beautifully glazed and it's a nice colour, good and squishy to the touch.

But what looms beneath the fluffy brown coating...]

I have some concerns about the eggs you gave me.

[This cake is going to taste like fish, isn't it.]

[axi]

[Kaname's over setting up some plates when Messer speaks, causing her to look over with slight concern. Why bring it up now of all times?]

They seemed to work well enough, didn't they?

I'm having second thoughts.

[You trust that friend of yours who got them, right? Because he hasn't checked the guy out yet properly, and seriously the eggs had tinier eggs inside them, it's a caviar cake.]

[She's a little wary now, but not enough to stop.]

It's a little late now. We might just have to hope for the best. But I've got faith in your abilities.
