[ loki is no stranger to space ships. though the kind of ships asgard uses are quite different in nature, he's read enough to be familiar with the make and feel of this one. he quietly turns on the recording device, squinting at it. very primitive but it'll have to do. he straightens himself, as befitting a prince, quiet and somber despite the nervousness. ]

Greetings. I am Prince Loki of Asgard. I wish to know about my whereabouts and swift return to Asgard. My father will not be pleased.

[ a pause as loki thinks of what else to add before pulling out a large knife he stole from the kitchens. ]

Also I have a knife.

[ loki nods politely, trying not to seem eager. ]

[Something small and easy then. He doesn't need to blow Polymorph here of all places.

So Taako considers and then takes a glass of water. He sets it been the two of them and touches a finger to the rim of the glass.

The water inside solidifies and then starts to change color, deepening to a deep blue. Then he slides it out of the glass and shapes the sapphire into a small snake.]

Would you rather I turn myself into a snake? I can't exactly talk when I'm like that.

[YES, IT IS. Because a polymorph transforms everything about a person, even their mind.

He considers for a moment and then decides to do something else entirely. He still wants to stay himself after all, especially around a godling.

Taako sighs and does an acquiescing bow.]

[And he casts Polymorph, not just an illusion like most of his shapeshifting, but an actual transformation of his body. It doesn't take long and everything just sort of...changes without much ado. One moment he's an elf, and the next? He's echidna - half elf, half snake. Scales flow up his body like a wave and pepper down his arms, shimmering up his neck. His eyes change and shift color, pupils narrowing to slits. He's grown in size, his tail elongating and wrapping around through the kitchen.]

[ loki's eyes go big, leaning forward. ]

That is amazing. What is that?

[Well, at least he's suitably impressed. It isn't as much fun as growing wings or becoming some behemoth giant, but staying himself and not himself at the same time was better than nothing.]

The spell or the creature, little dude? Because the creature is an echidna - a sentient monster from my world.

[ wow. loki props his head up with his elbows resting on the table. ]

How can you turn into a monster? Isn't that hard?

Not at all. As a transmutation wizard, whatever I wish to turn into, I can. Just as I turned the water into a snake.

[With this spell, at least. And one day he'll learn to use True Polymorph or another higher level spell. He's still on his way to learning, but he'll still be miles ahead of most other wizards he knows.]

With practice, you could learn the same.

[ loki shakes his head. ]

I don't want to turn into a monster.

Well, you could turn into an angel then, if you like. [He folds one arm over his chest, elbow balanced in his hand, the other hand to his face. Watching Loki, God of Tricks and Mischief, Master Illusionist and Shapeshifter, marvel at a simple Polymorph spell is just too cute.]

Or a grand warrior. Whichever you like.

A warrior would be amazing. Asgardians are the best warriors in the universe!

Oh, are they? [He slides forward across the floor toward Loki.]

[ loki blinks but thinks nothing of it. ]

We protect the Nine Realms. Recently, Father saved Midgard. He makes sure there's peace in the universe.

[Nine Realms, huh? Midgard.... Which Plane did that describe?]

Odin, hm? One day perhaps you'll join him in ensuring peace?

Of course. I'm also a son of Odin, even if I won't be king.

I'm sure your father will be honored to have you by his side, king or no.

[ loki looks down at his plate. he doesn't doubt that his father feels that way . . . but he doubts all the same. that was in his nature long before he fell apart. ]

Maybe. It's not easy.

Oh? And why would you say that?

[There's such sadness in him - both earlier about the magic and now when mentioning his father. Taako has to bite his cheek to tamp down on the echidna's instincts to mother and then eat.]

Aren't you eager to become like the others?

Of course I am! I want to be just like Father. Strong. A warrior.

[ but loki is already feeling it. that he's different. he doesn't have the same enthusiasm thor has. ]

[Strong and a warrior, huh? That doesn't seem like Loki's style at all.]

Not everyone's cut out for the stab and slash lifestyle, kiddo. That's not a bad thing.
