[ Jim's staring seriously at the camera as the broadcast begins, concern visible on his features. He might be easily recognizable to most everyone on the Fleet, but as soon as he starts talking, it will become obvious that he is not the same man, or at least not having the very same memories. Not of this place, that's for sure. ]

My name is James T. Kirk. I'm... not entirely sure how I got here, but for what it's worth, I'm one of the new arrivals.

[ He presses his lips, glancing around. ] This isn't the first time I've been brought to a universe other than my own, but I was wondering if anyone else here has had a similar experience. Coming here from a place that's not your reality of origin.

[ A pause, ] Specifically, has anyone here heard of Riverview, or the Quarantine?

[ He can't help a hopeful look. A familiar face, any familiar face, will be welcome. He's looking for a specific one, admittedly, but he's not holding his breath on that one. ]

ACTION ▹ SS RED FISH

[ Once he makes that broadcast, he'll be exploring his new location, so he knows what he's dealing with. He can be found roaming the ship, poking his head into all the nooks and corners, and possibly trying to sneak his way into off-limits locations, if there are any. Stop him getting into trouble, or help him? Or just come say hi to a not-quite-new face. ]

[ alucard is vaguely curious. ]

But you are from Earth, correct?

[winscenario]

I'm from one version of Earth, yes. Though I technically wasn't born there, it was only by happenstance. My mother wasn't on Earth at the time.

[ He cants his head. ] Why?

[ananym]

Curious, mostly.

[ alucard hasn't pinpointed any similarities. and no one has picked up on the nature of his name. ]

[winscenario]

[ Jim nods. ] We must be from different versions of Earth, is all. We do have a lot of vampire and magic stories and myths, but that's all they are. Millennia ago people, women mostly, were accused of magic and burned at the stake, but that was... a whole other thing entirely.

[ Studying Alucard's appearance for a moment, he finally asks, though he's fairly sure of the answer at this point. ] Are you a vampire?

[ananym]

[ his expression flickers briefly at the mention of witchcraft. ]

I am half.

[ a pause. ]

My father is Vlad Tepes. Otherwise known to many as Dracula.

[winscenario]

[ Jim's eyebrows arch at the name. Yes, that one he does recognize. But after he's just told Alucard that vampires only exist in stories in his world, he can't really admit to knowing of his father, not without telling him that he's nothing but a product of fiction where he's from.

So instead he just nods in understanding, his curiosity still very much genuine. ]

What's that like? Being half vampire. Do you still need to drink blood, or avoid sunlight?

[ananym]

[ alucard hums softly. ]

I do need blood, but in less quantities. And I can walk in the daylight.

[winscenario]

Good. I mean, I imagine it's easier for you. How do you manage here? Do you get access to blood, or do you need, uh... volunteers?

[ At least Alucard doesn't strike him as the type to just attack people out of the blue. But he could be wrong... ]

[ananym]

[ his lips curve. ]

I suppose that can be considered a polite way of asking about my dietary needs. As for your answer, I do not know yet. I'm still new to the ways of the Fleet but I am looking into alternatives.

[winscenario]

Sorry. A little too personal? [ Jim offers a sheepish smile. He isn't worried per se, just... wondering. ]

I see. [ He nods, pausing contemplatively. ] Well, I'm not sure I can be of much help, but if you need anything, let me know.

[ And mainly that means he's volunteering, should Alucard reach a point where he needs to drink blood. Better him than anyone else... ]

[ananym]

It is no worse than the ones I've heard before.

[ and he's heard way worse. at that offer though, he raises an eyebrow. ]

You're rather quick to offer that.

[winscenario]

Doesn't mean it's alright for me to pry.

[ He can only imagine the kinds of questions and comments he's gotten. At the last comment, he shrugs a little. ]

Isn't it easier for you to have someone willing, should you not find an alternative?

[ananym]

I've certainly never dealt with anyone unwilling.

[ he's never fought to be fed. though now, everything is sort of . . . up in the air. ]

But my situation is wholly new.

[winscenario]

I figured it was.

[ And seen as he's only been here a week, he might not have had to worry about this yet. Which isn't to say it won't become a necessity soon. Not that Jim knows how long Alucard can go without drinking blood. ]

So, isn't it better to know who among the crew might be willing to help?

[ananym]

I've informed the captain already.

[ beyond that . . . alucard isn't sure himself. ]

I hear there are blood drives and I am not the only one present in the Fleet.

[winscenario]

Not the only one? There are other vampires here?

[ Jim's admittedly curious, not really concerned. There must be some kind of system in place for them, he figures. That's good to know. ]

[ananym]

[ he purses his lips briefly. ]

So I hear, though I haven't met them. I rarely associate with other vampires, being only half myself.

[winscenario]

Do you associate with other humans, then?

[ Please don't tell him you just spend all your time alone, that'd be so sad. ]

[ananym]

[ wryly. ]

Rarely. I tend to put them off.

[winscenario]

[ Yep, that is so sad. ]

That's too bad. You seem perfectly pleasant to me, so far.

[ananym]

That's kind of you to say.

[ kirk isn't wrong. alucard generally keeps his interactions polite. there are only a few exceptions to that rule. ]

But I'm afraid my people have a reputation.

[winscenario]

I know a thing or two about having a reputation, trust me.

[ His wasn't always the best. Still isn't, really. Depends on who you talk to. ]

For what it's worth, I don't care. About whatever reputation your people have. We don't have vampires where I'm from anyway, so I wouldn't know.

[ananym]

[ alucard inclines his head politely. ]

Being a vampire has not been a problem here, oddly enough. No one seems to care or mind.

But I would not fault anyone for wariness. It is safer for them that way.

[winscenario]

Maybe it's just that we didn't have to deal with any particularly dangerous or violent vampires. Personally, I wouldn't judge you for what other vampires might be capable of doing. Seems a little unfair, no? After all, you're not judging me, even though plenty of humans have been capable of hideous acts over the past millennia.

[ananym]

[ alucard's expression twitchesss just a little. ]

That would be presumptuous of me. After all, my mother was human.
