Training Day

Who: Kolivan and YOU
Broadcast: Nope
Action: On the Iskaulit
When: Today!

[Kolivan has been getting more familiar with locations here but one thing is clear...he needs to keep up with his own personal training. This may be a peaceful time here but he knows there are dangerous people already in this place. People he needs to prepare himself for should they decide to be anything less than peaceful.

So he's either in the gym or the obstacle course when he's not attending to his duties on the ship he was assigned. It means he's not asleep much but then again it's not like he is one to spend much time at rest. Not when he feels that there is a very real danger he needs to be prepared for. Just in case. Because he doesn't ever want to be caught off guard again and overwhelmed. He wants to be able to face his foes head on and not lose.

This also means it's easy enough to come across him and even if he doesn't look your way instantly it seems rather clear that he already knows you're there. Like he sensed your arrival. But it's only when he's finished a series of complex movements (with his sword and legs in the gym or through the more complicated area of the obstacle course) that he actually acknowledges you.]

Do you need something?

[It's gruff but...he's always like this. Don't mind him.]

[Paranoia from Kolivan he is used to. If he had been carefree, Ulaz would have been concerned.

They had known each other long enough that they trusted each other. If Kolivan had really wanted to do something nefarious, Ulaz was close enough at this point that he could take him by surprise. He knew enough that this would not happen]

Highly likely. A more secure bandage will help in the meantime. [Since he knows Kolivan is not going to stop so quickly.

It doesn't take him long to rebandage it. He's not sure if Kolivan took care of it himself or if another lab support did (though with his paranoia, he's not so sure about that), but he prefers to have done this himself to know it was done right. When he finished, he stepped back one step, looking up at Kolivan]

You are still training then?

[Not concerned. Perhaps looking for an excuse?]

Of course.

[Ulaz is entirely unphased by the indication he's joining in the training. It was normal. This was how the Blades operated after all. When he trained new Blades, he did the same thing: "we are training now". An enemy wouldn't give them warning after all.

Besides, he had been fishing for the invite. Not that he couldn't just pull his blade and start it on his own, but given their age and his seniority within the Blades, the option to wait was more of a sign that he didn't intend to challenge Kolivan for something more important, such as leadership. He didn't want that in responsibility in the least. And it had been a while since they had been around each other.

But now, permission granted, he put his kit away as he followed in that direction. Luckily he did actually happen to be wearing his armor today so pretty much mid-stride, he put his mask up and grabbed his blade, making the first swing with his sword]

[Blades didn’t fight fair. Even in training.

He knew Kolivan would be prepared for him to attack before turning to face him. He would have been surprised to not have his attack blocked by the leader of the Blades.

It had been a while since he had properly sparred with another Blade, but he is unconcerned. If he lost so easily, he deserved to lose.

He jumps back as Kolivan slashes out at him. Moving is something that he’s good at, given that its one of his major evasive tactics. Size is very slightly on his side here, being shorter than Kolivan, but that was not something to count as an advantage. With the space between them, he practically launches himself back at Kolivan, swinging at him again]

[Not often Ulaz can be thrown like that, especially around the people here. Well... Lyall had, but that was a special case. He likely wouldn't admit something like that to Kolivan unless it absolutely needed to come up... also that he had lost to Kogarasumaru. But that's why he trained with Kogarasumaru. If there was someone who could beat him, he needed to learn.

He recovers from the throw quickly, enough to be able to block the incoming attack so that Kolivan couldn't injure him - from that attack at least. He gets back to his feet, still holding his guard.

At least until Kolivan tries to trip him up. He lets himself be "swept off his feet", using that as an excuse to backflip backwards, putting distance between Kolivan and himself before launching again at Kolivan. This time, he dodges to the side, keeping low as he attacked. The more Kolivan had to move to get to him, the better his advantage even if it was only minuscule]

[And Kolivan can give Ulaz the same in a fight. He needs to be prepared for larger opponents who may not have his center of balance or the same speed as him, but have the sheer brute force to keep him from getting complacent.

Ulaz's blade was easily blocked by Kolivan, stopping Ulaz still in a crouch, holding his blade in front of him. As Kolivan sweeps it around to break the stalemate, Ulaz propelled himself backwards before he could be struck, jumping to the side to try and get to Kolivan's side in order to make another attack]
scalpelofmarmora: (behind him)

[personal profile] scalpelofmarmora 2019-01-22 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He is oddly pleased that Kolivan rushes at him this time, giving him a challenge. It really would be no fun otherwise.

As Kolivan rushes him, Ulaz has to immediately dodge, pushing back at the same time. He’s quick with his blade as well, blocking with it to keep from getting hit. In the effort to do so, he didn’t care where Kolivan’s blade struck on his – sharpened edge or the flat edges, whichever was more efficient to keep Kolivan’s at bay.

Anyone else would have been dead. Ulaz is still uninjured.

And with that, he swings and tries catch Kolivan's sword with guard of his, an attempt to disarm him]

[personal profile] scalpelofmarmora 2019-01-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
[That was a good lesson and Ulaz knew that it was important. Hence his attempt to disarm Kolivan which now ended with Kolivan tossing his blade in the air and slamming full force into his chest.

This of course throws Ulaz backwards as well it should. Ulaz’s size is an advantage to his speed while Kolivan’s is an advantage for repelling attackers. He keeps a grip on his sword as he is propelled backwards, regaining his balance easily and quickly.

For the moment, he doesn’t resume his assault, standing his ground with his sword at the ready]

[The brief moment of waiting to see what Kolivan would do gives him the opportunity to see the attacks as they are coming. He's used to reading the movement of others to determine what he needs to do. It's practically second nature thanks to all the training that he's done in his life. Kolivan has been his opponent for the longest time so he knows how to read him better, but even under the best of circumstances, he is unpredictable. And Ulaz hasn't been around him for sometime.

He blocks the incoming attacks with ease, moving back as needed to keep Kolivan from getting too close. That is more disastrous because it reduces the time Ulaz has to counter.

He knows about what happened to the Blades, details limited from what Shiro had told him, but he knows. At the same time, he doesn't want to know too much more. He had needed to go work off some of that anxious energy when Shiro had told him. He never would want to see Kolivan in that situation.

Even more so because of that, he appreciates that Kolivan is here to spar with him.

When he has an opening, Ulaz makes his own attack, swinging his sword around, aiming to strike Kolivan]

[Yes, that probably would have broken limbs without armor. As it was, Ulaz could feel the force of the shock of Kolivan's arm slamming against his. Not that he even acknowledged it, but he had felt it. There was definitely going to be a bruise, which was also expected.

Well, this new stance was good for Kolivan. Bad for Ulaz. He was stronger and had more raw strength to throw around than Ulaz did. Ulaz attempted to plant his feet, sliding on the floor despite it. Very few could get Ulaz to move so easily.

He slid backwards a bit before attempting to extricate himself from this, attempting to throw himself to the side so he could tuck and roll out of the way]

[personal profile] scalpelofmarmora 2019-01-27 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[The already crouched position did help Kolivan in catching Ulaz as he attempted to retreat and put distance between them. Ulaz hadn't anticipated that move and could not change how fast he was moving back in time for Kolivan to catch him.

Thus he took Kolivan's full weight as he slammed into him. A stubborn Blade to the end, he attempted to twist out from Kolivan's reach one last time, but he still ended hitting the ground.

He may not have been completely out of practice, but he was apparently out of practice with an opponent larger than himself]

[Ending up flat on his back with Kolivan’s blade aimed at him was not something he wanted to see. Surprisingly though, it wasn’t the first time he had. When Kolivan offers his hand, he takes it getting back to his feet and sheathing his sword.

Yes, he speaks “Kolivan-ese”. He knows the hidden message in there]

Yes, I think we will. I have been disadvantaged in that area for some time. I will accept all the training you will give.

[He'd had fun too, Kolivan]

A lot of those from our world. Keith has been good practice.

The one you may find most interesting is Kogarasumaru. He is the living embodiment of a sword from his home. As such, he is a skilled swordsman and he is quicker than I am.
