[Kolivan has been getting more familiar with locations here but one thing is clear...he needs to keep up with his own personal training. This may be a peaceful time here but he knows there are dangerous people already in this place. People he needs to prepare himself for should they decide to be anything less than peaceful.

So he's either in the gym or the obstacle course when he's not attending to his duties on the ship he was assigned. It means he's not asleep much but then again it's not like he is one to spend much time at rest. Not when he feels that there is a very real danger he needs to be prepared for. Just in case. Because he doesn't ever want to be caught off guard again and overwhelmed. He wants to be able to face his foes head on and not lose.

This also means it's easy enough to come across him and even if he doesn't look your way instantly it seems rather clear that he already knows you're there. Like he sensed your arrival. But it's only when he's finished a series of complex movements (with his sword and legs in the gym or through the more complicated area of the obstacle course) that he actually acknowledges you.]

Do you need something?

[It's gruff but...he's always like this. Don't mind him.]

[Kolivan looks decidedly unimpressed as he turns away to go more to the center of the room.]

Arm yourself. This begins once you have a weapon.

Fine. Just know that I'm kicking your ass for hurting my boyfriend.

[He's got his bayard with him, and... Well, shit, his gun isn't going to be much use in close quarters like this. But he has been training a long time with his blade. And so he activates it, red blade flashing into existence in front of him.]

If Ulaz has been the one training you then you will be as bruised as Keith is when we are finished.

[Sure enough, the moment he activates his weapon, Kolivan is on him. He did warn him that this would begin right that moment and he meant it. So he slashes at him as if this were a real fight, even aiming right for his face.]

[And Lance had expected not to have a second to prepare. The second he activates the sword, he brings it up in front of him, knowing that Kolivan wouldn't waste a moment.

And aiming for the face? Oh, bitch, you're on.

He jumps back to give himself a little bit of room, taking in Kolivan's stance. While he's never fought against him before, Lance knows a good amount about Blade techniques, considering his time with Ulaz and Keith. He hopes that'll give him a little bit of an advantage instead of going in completely blind.

Lance rushes at him, prepared to clash swords again or dodge.]

[Kolivan takes note of how Lance moves. It's clear he's definitely been training with Ulaz, very likely Keith too since he can see that in him. If he's been training with other then he cannot say but he can tell when someone has been facing off against one of his Blades just by how they move.

So, he lets him rush him, their swords clashing in the process.

Right before he throws a sucker punch right at Lance's face again.]

[Oh, no. He manages to dodge that punch too, if slightly clumsier, but heck if he's going to end up with a broken nose marring his beloved features because of this.

Though, thinking it over, if he keeps worrying about his face, there's no damn way he's winning this. Ugh. Melee fights.

Lance slides his blade off of Kolivan's, swinging it in an arc to strike at the Galra's side.]

[Don't think Kolivan hasn't noticed that Lance is favoring protecting his face. That's just like pointing out a weakness to an enemy. Which he presently is as far as this spar is concerned.

Spinning around, he moves himself behind Lance before slashing with his own sword to try to force the other to dodge. To put distance between them.]

[And dodge he does. Lance is nimble, at least, even if the power of his swings is lackluster compared to those he trains against. Granted, that tends to happen when they include a Galra and a half Galra.]

[As soon as he sees Lance putting distance between them, he immediately goes to close it again, slashing with the intention of pushing him back again. Because, if Lance is paying attention, this is pushing his back dangerously close to the wall behind him.]

[He is. Lance can sense the distance closing and his space of movement shrinking. Running through options in his head, he decides he's going to take a page from the Keith handbook.

As soon as Kolivan's swung his next few attacks at him, he dashes forward, but instead of attacking back, he drops down and slides underneath his long legs to get himself on the other side. Lance quickly picks himself up and slashes up at Kolivan afterward.]

[Kolivan jumps over it and reaches to grab for Lance's clothes so he can then throw him across the room. If it works? Well, this is likely going to hurt.

A lot.]

[Unfortunately for Lance, he really could have dressed better for sparring. But to his defense, he hadn't been expecting to do so today. Still, it means that Kolivan is able to get a grip of his clothes, and before he realizes it, he's slamming hard against the opposite wall of the room.

Fucking ow.

Lance crumples to the ground, groaning as he moves to check if anything is broken, starting with his nose. Thankfully, things seem to be fine, but it doesn't change that it hurt like hell. Grumbling, he pushes himself to his feet, but his legs are clearly shaky.]

No such thing as a fair fight, huh?

I am simply waiting for when you will begin kicking my ass for hurting your boyfriend.

[And yes. He stands there waiting for Lance to come at him, clearly not impressed.]

[Lance makes a noise that might be akin to a low growl. He knows that he can't it get to him, even if it feels like a taunt, but it still pisses him off that he's unable to land a solid hit. That despite all the training he's done over the last year and change, it's not enough.

He rushes at him again, swinging his sword, preparing for another clash. And maybe then...]

[And he jumps right over him at the last moment, even using Lance's back as a launchpad to push himself further away. Landing easily on his feet, he crosses his arms as he waits.]

You are letting yourself be provoked. Calm your emotions.

[So much for that strategy.

Lance takes a deep breath as he stands up and steadies himself again. For all he's been practicing with his sword, nothing's making a damn dent.]

Well, I've always been the emotional one. Kinda hard either way when you can apparently snap me like a twig, though.

That is why you will fail here. Stop. Breathe. Then attack me again.

[He nods to him, waiting for him to do as he told him to.]

[He does. Lance takes several moments to collect himself, trying to squash his frustration best he can. Ignore his aching body, and start from the beginning. Maybe with a different strategy.

Lance rushes at Kolivan, one again intent on a prolonged clash of swords.]

[Kolivan watches Lance calm himself before attacking again. This time it isn't a rush of attacks and instead is a calculated assault. Something to prolong this. There are better methods to handle this but he does approve of Lance changing strategies.]

Lower your shoulders.

[He lets himself go on the defense this time, just watching Lance's posture the entire time.]

[He does a little, but looks up at him, gaze firm.]

So... Battle's about using all your talents and resources to your best ability, yeah?

A battle is about that and learning the weakness of your opponent. Everything around you will be an advantage and disadvantage. Knowledge or death.

[He looks at his stance again.]

I am bigger than you. Use that to your advantage. Attack my chest.

[Lance gives a little hum to himself. He has an idea, but he'll save it for a last emergency tactic. Which might end up coming at some point. But honestly, Kolivan does have some point about emotions. Lance had gotten better with training with Ulaz, and he should be used to facing a large Galra opponent, but his anger at seeing the bruises on Keith's body from his training with Kolivan was getting the best of him.

Stupid everything.

Another deep breath, and he twists his sword to slide off of Kolivan's, immediately bringing up to try slashing across his chest.]

[Though Kolivan dodges the attack, he at least sees that Lance is putting his advice to use. That is a start he can approve of and he nods. A little. Honestly one could almost miss it if they didn't know what to look for.

Stepping to the side, he waits.]

Why are you angry that he was bruised from sparring with me? Do you feel he cannot defend himself?

That...

[He tries to find a way to explain. Though even so, he doesn't know if Kolivan would fully understand.]

Of course I think he can defend himself. He's a hell of a lot stronger than me, than a lot of people I know. It's just... Seeing the person you love hurt kinda lights a fire in you, makes you want to do something, anything about it. I know we're paladins, I know we're always in danger and this isn't the first or last time I'll see him bruised. But love and all those feelings with it don't always follow clinical logic. For better or for worse.

Yet you are aware that he is safe. Bruises will heal and he will be fine. It isn't like a loss of life where you cannot recover what is lost.

[He knows that personally. Because he's been there for that one.]
