[The frowning face of Kolivan appears on the screen. He looks generally unhappy but anyone who knows him is aware that this is literally just his default expression. There's nothing unusual to see here.]

It would appear that the captain of the Goldstone has departed this fleet. I am Kolivan, its new captain. Should you have questions then you can bring them to me.

[A pause and then...]

Members of my crew. I want reports for your stations by the end of the day. There is no First Mate on this ship so I will take them.

[And that's the end. He just ends the transmission there.]


Goldstone

[Kolivan can be found taking note of what the ship has and what it requires in terms of supplies. It's really impossible to miss him honestly. Being the towering figure he is and the way he needs to bend down to move through halls and doors... Well, it's basically not going to be hard to find him or run into him.

Just please don't do so literally. He's very solid and it will hurt.

Ah yeah. That's probably fair. I likely explained it badly and I also don't know what Cyril's world's courting rituals are like as well.

I have not had an interest in someone in a very long time. It isn't something I've had to consider during my time with the Blades.

[Tim can't help but think back to that memory in Calibration. Of what is probably the last time Kolivan allowed himself to take an interest in someone. He doesn't know whether he should bring that up, if Kolivan even remembers it himself.]

[He pauses, stopping where he is to stand there.]

That was long ago.

[Tim stops only seconds before he would have walked into Kolivan and takes a couple of steps back so he can look up at him]

Perhaps it was, but their death still motivates you with the Blades. Sometimes time means nothing when it comes to emotion.

I can't afford to let my emotions rule me. If I do that then people will be hurt or killed. That luxury was something I had to give up long ago.

[It's why it's been an internal struggle to decide if he wants to try this thing with Cyril. A part of him does. A large part. But there's always that voice in his head that says that if he does so then Cyril will be hurt. Either by him or by another. Just because it's been so long since he opened himself up so completely, exposed himself.

Yet...Cyril has seen that vulnerability and embraced it rather than turn away from it. Maybe...

Kolivan continues walking.]

Somehow, I think pushing all your emotions to the side hasn't really stopped people from getting hurt or killed. You are in the middle of a war after all. It's stopped you processing it though and sometimes that feels like it hurts less right?

[Tim continues to follow]

Really, your emotions ruling you have nothing to do with anyone getting hurt. Past or present.

You can't really guarantee anything.

Do you have any changes you want to make with how the ship is run?

I want video surveillance on this ship. Something I will discuss with the other Security Officer since you will be working more closely with me from now on.

I can do video surveillance! with the right equipment and such. I'm very good at it, gadgets, security systems and well bugs. Not that we'll need that in our own ship.

[He seems eager to prove himself useful]

I can work closely with you too, I'm use to keeping busy so I can definitely do both.

This is a project I will give to him. We will need an engineer and likely a communications officer to aid us in this and with three of us in security he will require tasks to do. It will be easier for me to keep an eye on him if he has work.

Oh, that's smart. Trying to keep him busy and find out if he's reliable?

I still haven't met him. I should go to introduce himself. The Undertaker is an interesting character...

What do you want me to be doing?

The Undertaker is Lab Support.

You will be working with me to make sure that the ship is running properly and that we are aware of what we do and do not have on this ship. I want us prepared for anything that could happen.

Considering that we don't know what could happen. That covers a lot of possibilities. We're going to need a lot more supplies than we already have. With only well, a couple of us who actively want to do this.

It will be more effort but the results will be worth it. Presently we have room in our cargo hold for more supplies. I want us to gather what we can when we next leave drift.
