[ the feed turns on, though it seems to start with a burst of static and a blurry screen before it finally seems to straighten itself out. though the scene you might be seeing seems a little . . . hard to take in. mostly because it looks like everything has been frozen. plants, grass and giant dinosaurs like T-Rexs that were in mid-lunge to bite on . . . a huddled lump who has a quilt over their head and cocooned deep within the covers. And also happens to be sneezing a lot. ]

This — [ loki sneezes, looking pale, harried and a little . . . blue. ] — Is the worst. Why is everything so — [ another loud sneeze. ] — uncomfortable?! And how do you make it stop?!

[It's familiar, but she keeps her mouth shut about that; she doesn't know what (if anything) he remembers from the dreams, and even her own memories are a bit foggy. She'd rather not bring up that place when he's already so melancholy, anyway.]

Sounds like a fairy tale.

Most stories are. We walk in myth and legend.

[ his gaze is distant. telling stories is easier, weaving in and out of the narrative. ]

We were taught that the Frost Giants were monsters. Thor would swear it in the halls. I would follow so I wouldn't get left behind.

And then the truth came out.

[She doesn't envy him for that surprise.]

What happened?

[ loki chuckles, though there's no real humour in it. ]

I spiraled. There was a . . . great deal happening on Asgard while Thor was away. I had hoped — [ his voice falters. ] — What I had hoped didn't come to pass.

[necromanswers]

[The stumble is noted, but she can't help but push a little.]

What were you hoping would happen?

[dothelokimotion]

Who knows what children hope for?

It was a long time ago.

[necromanswers]

[Hm. Not sure she believes him, but she gave it an attempt, at least. Can't Zone of Truth this one.]

Is this when you... fell?

[It's a shot in the dark, admittedly, but that situation had felt awfully spiral-y at the time.]

[ there's a pause before he replies. ]

That's right. I fell. Into the Void of all things.

Were you able to come back?

[That would be a pretty miserable end to one's story, otherwise.]

Not as myself.

[ loki idly rubs his hands together. but it's pointless. there's no warmth. ]

I was found by a madman and being half — well, not having full leave of my senses due to all that happened, I was easily led.

[necromanswers]

[By now they've reached the shuttle, so she takes a moment to get him inside, settled, and stable into one of the chairs, then gets it started up so they can make their way back.]

It was a complicated time of your life, sounds like. From my experience, that's the best time to target someone for manipulation.

[It's not an excuse, of course. That's not how it works. But sometimes it... helps. To put things in perspective. Without context her own list of life (and death) crimes is long and cruel.]

[ loki grimaces though it's more directed at himself. ]

He was a master manipulator.

So what'd he manipulate you into doing?

[ his lips twitch. ]

I dunno, there's lots of things madmen are capable of. But this is your story, not mine.

[She'd rather hear it in his own words, or it's meaningless.]

[ loki looks on, red eyes gleaming. ]

I tried to take over another world. I brought war upon them.

[How very fitting. Lup's lip twitches, but otherwise she shows no reaction. She sure knows how to pick 'em, huh? First Haggar-Hoverna, now this... Merle would be proud.]

"Tried", huh? Is that why you don't give off the impression of an evil overlord?

[ loki's lips twitch. ]

Oh, I could. Given effort. It is a thin line to cross.

Hard to go back on, after the fact. Might want to avoid it.

Perhaps. At the very least, I no longer hold interest for it.

I'll take that as a comfort, for what it's worth.

So... did you feel abandoned by your family, then?

[dothelokimotion]

Well, yes, but that's what my family excels in.

My father gave Thor a hammer to prove his worth and reclaim his place. For my sister and me, he gave us the gift of not killing us.

[necromanswers]

...What the fuck.

[She doesn't even know what else to say to that- the disgust in her voice is palpable, personal. It's a tone that practically screams understanding.]

[ he blinks, surprised by the strength of her reaction. ]

Is that so surprising?

My experience is when you've got folks looking after you who are shitty on that level? They're shitty to all of their kids.
