Meanwhile on the loveboat (mingle log)

Who: Crew of the Blue Fish, anyone who's been invited, and any visitors! So basically everyone

Action: On the Blue Fish, mostly probably in the kitchen and the mess hall because PARTY

[If there's anything this freaking ship loves, it's food. Somehow, a dinner got planned to welcome the new member. And then other people got invited. And then the dinner pretty much turned into a party with a lot of food. Needless to say, Kairi has been very busy preparing food all the day for this.

There's a lot of meat, per the captain's request. But there's also veggies, some fruit, pasta, and even brownies! There are also two pizza pies. Basically, Kairi just cooked a bunch of food and hoped it would be enough, as she had no idea how many people were coming.

SO DIG IN, BLUE FISH AND GUESTS. Also mingle and be social and all that jazz!]

[There is pizza. There is pizza. Axel is utterly delighted that there is pizza and immediately sets off on a mission to find Kairi and express this. When he finds her, he pulls up the nearest chair and flips it around backwards, then sits down and rests his plate on the back of it, smiling broadly.]

I didn't know you knew how to make pizza. This is really good. You really went all-out, huh?

[Kairi isn't sure whether or not she's surprised that Axel is here. He had been a tad bit... skittish with her in some ways, and she wasn't sure if he was much into these kinds of events. Whether or not she is surprised, she is, at the very least, happy to see him. Maybe repairing their relationship was going to be easier than she thought.]

Mmhmm. I always liked cooking, so I learned to make a lot when I was younger. And pizza always went over well.

Though I'm pretty sure this is the most food I've ever made in one go. I'm a little tired.

[Skittish is a good word for it. Despite having a lot of charisma, Axel's kind of awkward when it comes to being social with friends--he can play a crowd well, but has a hard time with parties. It's been like twelve years since he did anything but sit on top of a clock tower with friends, after all; how does a party even work? He doesn't want things to be awkward with Kairi, he honestly does want to make this work, he's just... not quite sure how to make that happen. Bear with him.]

I was never much of a cook, myself. Though... I can boil water like a champ. [Courtesy laugh.] So you seriously made all of this by yourself? Man, no wonder you're tuckered.

[She doesn't either, but it would take time. Time to heal the old wounds and ease the memories, and time to establish a new, better relationship. While she planned to work at it, she knew it would not happen overnight.]

That's a good first step. You just gotta throw things in there then. [She nods at his question.] I did. Been at it since this morning.

That's the part I always kinda fumbled at, was the throwing stuff in. [He laughs weakly.] I can cook things--like, literally, I can make a flame and roast something over it just fine--it's the combining flavors part of cooking that evades me. I guess I just don't have the right kind of creativity to know what tastes good together.

[A low whistle.]

Dedication~ What made ya decide to throw a party?

Well, creativity helps, but it's also just trusting your taste buds! I did a lot of experimenting when I was younger and made some pretty awful stuff. That's how I learned. [Well and through some of what her adoptive mother taught her, but mostly by trying different things and seeing what worked.]

Well, it was just to welcome our new crew member, but it somehow evolved into a full blown party. We just started inviting people and... well, we got this.

I'd say your trial and error paid off. [He takes another bite of the pizza and chews thoughtfully for a moment, then smiles.] Hey, whatever works. Thanks for inviting me--I haven't had pizza in ages.

So you seem to be taking to space pretty well. I guess having Riku and Sora around helps, huh?

Of course. The more the merrier, right? And the more people who eat up the food, the better.

[Is she? She supposes so, though what choice does she have? For whatever reason, she's stuck here with everyone else. It's an opportunity she doubts she'll ever get again, even if the circumstances aren't ideal.]

Having people from home has been a huge help, and I know I'm lucky for it. But my crew has been great, too.

[Axel grins a bit.]

I'm pretty convinced everyone on my crew is nuts, but they're not a bad lot, really. [He was worried about Fenris, at first, but while he wouldn't say he trusts him, he's less wary around him these days. He's interesting, he'll give him that much.] I gotta say, it is nice to have a few familiar faces around here. [Yes, he's talking about you and Riku and Sora. Sure, maybe you guys don't have the friendliest history, but you kind of worked things out. He's not sure he can use the word 'friends' yet, but he's working on it, and it's kind of nice.]

Mine is... well, they like to eat. [It gets a laugh out of her. Sokka and Allen's appetites were amazing, and she's had to feed Sora and Riku after running around on the beach all day.] But they're great. I'm glad your crew seems pretty good. I wonder if I've met any of them...

[No, the history isn't... great. But that's nothing new. They're working past it. Sora was forgiving and Riku could be brought around, if he hadn't been already. Axel wasn't a bad person, just someone trying to survive in bad circumstances. He had tried, Light bless him. And even if Kairi did want to hold a grudge, she couldn't. He saved Sora's life. It may not have "happened" to Axel yet, but it had to her.]

We are lucky, aren't we? I'm not sure how many people in the Fleet can say that.

[He laughs.] Well, at least they know what they want. [He takes another bite of pizza, then looks thoughtful.]

Well, there's... my security guy, Fenris, he's been on the ship the longest, besides me. He's got pointy ears and white hair, and these crazy white tattoos all over his body. Kind of a grump, usually looks like [Insert a scowly lineface here.]

Then there's Asteffiel, my lab guy. He's literally a plant, I don't quite get it. He's kinda purpley and his hair is like... leaves. You'd definitely remember if you'd met him.

Ladon's the pilot, he seems like a pretty easygoing guy. Swears a lot, always wearing this swanky hat. And then there's Colette, the engineer. She's a little younger than you, I think, with blonde hair, really cheerful.

[He looks a little taken aback when she says they're lucky, and just considers this for a moment.] You know, I used to think I never had any luck that wasn't bad, but... [He gives a watery smile.] Well, I think my luck's changed a bit, let's say.

[Nope, none of them sound familiar. And it's just another confirmation she needs to get out and meet more of the people on the other ships.]

Definitely haven't met any of them. I think I'll have to soon, if the chance comes up.

[If anyone was due for some good luck, it was Axel.] I guess you were owed some, then. I know you've had it rough, so I think it's only fair.

Well, maybe next time we'll have a party on my ship. [He snickers.] Fenris probably wouldn't show, though. He's far too stoic for things like parties.

[Something like embarrassment crosses his face then, and he pulls at the back of his neck. Let's not talk about the fairness of things... but he appreciates the sentiment.]

Maybe. I still kinda feel like I largely got myself into my own mess, but... I guess there's a lot to be said for learning from your mistakes.

You should! Maybe he might come out if there's good food. Or someone can drag him out.

[Sometimes, you just gotta say screw it to your friend's boundaries and make them be social. Sometimes.]

I think we all have, in some way or another. But that's all you can do. Learn from what you did wrong and if you can, try and make it right.

[He hefts a small sigh and nods.]

I do wanna make it right. [It's not hard to say it--it's the truth. He screwed a lot of things up, and he's sorry for that.] I'm, ah... Well, I'm glad I was able to... You know. [He gestures vaguely at the air between them.] I mean, I'm glad you don't like hate my guts.
