[If there's anything this freaking ship loves, it's food. Somehow, a dinner got planned to welcome the new member. And then other people got invited. And then the dinner pretty much turned into a party with a lot of food. Needless to say, Kairi has been very busy preparing food all the day for this.

There's a lot of meat, per the captain's request. But there's also veggies, some fruit, pasta, and even brownies! There are also two pizza pies. Basically, Kairi just cooked a bunch of food and hoped it would be enough, as she had no idea how many people were coming.

SO DIG IN, BLUE FISH AND GUESTS. Also mingle and be social and all that jazz!]

Well, I can't say I've sampled all of it, but I would certainly say the food is no less acceptable than the company. Thank you for your generosity.

[ Your food is good, Kairi. ]

Thank you. I had to cook a bunch of it at once, so I was a little worried the quality might be lacking.

My name is Kairi. I'm the cook on the ship, if it wasn't obvious.

Absolutely not. Take it from me, the attitude in which you prepare it and the care you take can mean much more than the ingredients themselves.

Well met, Kairi. My name is O'danya; Dr. Crusher invited me. Normally, I am stationed as security aboard the Caprine.

You know, that is true. A lot of the time you can tell if a cook put a lot of heart into their food or just threw it together.

Nice to meet you. I think you're the first I've met from that ship. How do you know Beverly?

[paeon]

And that is what truly separates the wheat from the chaff.

Is that so? I'm surprised; you would think more crews might meet each other, especially during these times. Ah—on that topic, we met when Dr. Crusher was checking on the injured. I volunteered my own skills to help any that might have spoken up.

Well, I wasn't able to help too much after the attack. I only cook, and more were focused on wounds and repairing ships than food. [She had felt so useless.] But it's great that you helped. We seem to have a good number of medics around.

[paeon]

Not everyone is called to the battlefield. Keeping the strength of your friends through your own talents is just as important.

[ That gets a small smile. ]

We want not for those who can react to terrible happenings, but I worry that our abilities to avoid them entirely are not enough.

[destinyembrace]

Yeah, you're right. And they love to eat on this ship, so it kept up morale I suppose. I still wish I could have done more though.

[She nods in agreement.]

It would be nicer to be able to prevent it, but is there any way we could? There was no warning last time, even with all the technology on these ships.

[paeon]

If that is the truth, there is always something more you can learn to do.

[ O'danya is living proof of that. ]

As far as I see it, we've only been given the option to react. If we wish to act, that will have to be something taken under our own power. To do that... we would need more understanding of our current circumstances.

I wouldn't mind that. I guess it's just figuring out what.

[Right she is, but unfortunately, that's a lot easier said than done in their current situation.]

If only we could find out more about Atroma, or any of this. Or even why we were attacked, and who else might be following us. I mean, it's a big fleet. I'm sure we caught someone's attention.

[paeon]

Well, the first question you may ask is where your interests lie. It will always be better to enforce a strength than to try and work with brittle, unusable material.

[ aka don't force it. ]

The fact that we are being broadcast calls much into question. When everyone is privy to our actions and location, unfortunately our options become much more vast than our resources allow us to investigate.

[destinyembrace]

Hmm... [Good... question.] That I'd have to think about. I haven't put much thought into it yet.

It feels like it should be easy to figure out what's going on. A reality show? Someone should know the details about it somewhere. One of these planets or stations we stop at has to know something. It's just finding the right person.

[paeon]

And that is fine. It takes time to analyze oneself.

[ O'danya shakes her head. ] If we are all being watched for entertainment, who is to say that these people we come across are not in similar positions? Recently we visited a planet much the same called Mor. It is difficult to find where the line between ruse and reality meet.

[destinyembrace]

[If Kairi's mildly worried look is any indication, that was something she hadn't considered. Is that was everything was, just a reality show of some sort? But still...]

True, we might not be the only case. But any show needs an audience. They always say 'the worlds are watching'. Someone's had to have seen this show. [A frown as she considers something else.] Unless they're deliberately avoiding the worlds that do watch the show.

[paeon]

That would be the wisest course of action. It beggars disbelief that everyone would sit well with the idea of so many being unwilling on such a program. Not to mention those who might be overly-invested...

[destinyembrace]

There goes that idea, I suppose.

[paeon]

Ah... but such heavy conversation does not befit revelry such as this, does it? Pardon me.

[destinyembrace]

It's all right. You can't focus on the good all the time.

[But it didn't have a place here, no, so she forces a smile and attempts to change the subject.]

Everyone seems to be having fun, for the most part. I wish we had the room for a proper party. Let everyone spread out and have some music. But all the ships are too tiny.

[paeon]

No, but there are times and places for both.

[ Her own smile isn't so forced, but perhaps because her life experiences have made it easier to switch tracks so easily. ]

And our stops would not take kindly to us using their space without permission. [ She considers. ] If only we could push our ships together to make some sort of crossroads.
