Meanwhile on the loveboat (mingle log)

Who: Crew of the Blue Fish, anyone who's been invited, and any visitors! So basically everyone
Broadcast: Nope
Action: On the Blue Fish, mostly probably in the kitchen and the mess hall because PARTY
When: Today~

[If there's anything this freaking ship loves, it's food. Somehow, a dinner got planned to welcome the new member. And then other people got invited. And then the dinner pretty much turned into a party with a lot of food. Needless to say, Kairi has been very busy preparing food all the day for this.

There's a lot of meat, per the captain's request. But there's also veggies, some fruit, pasta, and even brownies! There are also two pizza pies. Basically, Kairi just cooked a bunch of food and hoped it would be enough, as she had no idea how many people were coming.

SO DIG IN, BLUE FISH AND GUESTS. Also mingle and be social and all that jazz!]

I did! I don't believe they are here yet though...

[She looks around the room for a moment, just to be sure. They're not. It's still early on in the however, so she isn't worried.]

Dr. Keller should be joining us and O'Danya as well. Have you met either of them yet?

I know what you mean. Tonight's party was a good idea, it gives us a chance to get to know each other a little better. I'm glad you thought of it.

Actually, I live on a starship at home as well, though, of course, I'm not on a television show normally. I am a member of an organization called Starfleet... we're explorers, mainly, but we also function as diplomats and, very occasionally, fighters for our government.

Mmm-hmm. In the six years I've been on the Enterprise - that's my ship - we've visited hundreds of planets outside Earth. In fact, many of my crewmates aren't human at all.

Well, there are thirteen different sentient species living on the Enterprise. Mostly humanoid, but [She grins in anticipation of Kairi's reaction] we have a couple of dolphin officers as well.

Dolphins. They're very good navigators you know.

Cetacean Ops takes up two whole decks of the Enterprise, which is more than enough space for them. They're almost completely filled with water. The dolphins have work stations, living quarters, their own escape pods, everything any other crew member would have.

Well, they are sentient, after all. They are just as capable as any humanoid species, intellectually speaking. There are of course some physical limitations, but the same could be said for us from their standpoint. Humans need all sorts of contraptions to survive underwater.

[She tilts her head, genuinely confused. Still she's smiling, as Kairi's giggle is somewhat infectious.]

I don't understand. What's so funny?

[Beverly chuckles.] Ah, no, no they don't have uniforms. Most of the Starfleet crew are required to wear them of course, but that would be impractical for cetaceans.
