That may be cheating.

But does it work?

[She sighs heavily, pretending to be terribly put out.]

The first thing you should know is they aren't our pets. We would never stable them as you shemlen do your horses.

[You try to do that while he's gently caressing the side of your face, Jove.]

[How dare you ask questions while trying to distract, Cullen. It isn't working very well, she just smiles at him and leans into his touch.]

We don't ride them either, so no making up any elven heroes charging into battle on their mighty halla steed.

Then what do you actually do with these halla?

We dance naked under the light of the moon and then pray to them, of course.

[She says it with a completely straight face, too.]

[Did his ears turn a little pink? Perhaps. Cullen chuckles and kisses her nose.]

Lucky halla.

[Except he doesn't kiss her nose because she intercepts him, catching him in a quick kiss before she can get to her nose at all.]

You think so, do you? Perhaps you'd be allowed to observe next time if it's for the sake of learning more about Dalish culture.

I'd like that. [He presses some more of his weight against her.] I'd like to learn all I can.

[Her breath catches when he does it, but Jove does her best not to acknowledge it.]

And why is that?

Isn't it obvious? I want to know more about you. Your life, your culture.

[Now it's her turn to go a little red. She's a bit surprised by how earnest he is with the request, but it means a lot to her. She cups his cheek gently as she looks up at him, suddenly feeling a need to show as much affection as possible.]

That isn't a short conversation, you know. If you have any specific questions it may go faster.

[He rubs his scruffy cheek against her palm.]

I know. Maybe I want a long conversation. Maybe I want to hear everything.

Maybe you should let me sit up, in that case.

[Unless he's wanting to have all their conversations with him on top of her.]

Do you... want to sit up?

[No, please. Tell him. He's enjoying this, but he can sit up, too!]

[She laughs lightly at that, because while he may genuinely mean it she's assuming that's his way of saying he'd rather not let her move.]

I could do it on my back if that's what you'd prefer.

[She'll just let that sink in a little before moving on.]

Perhaps I'll start by telling you about the elven goddess my vallaslin is for. Her name was Ghilan'nain, and it was her that filled the land and skies and seas with monsters of every description. She was called the mother of halla.

[Reaching for his hand, she brings it up to her face and guides his fingers to rest over her eyebrow.]

Do you see how the lines here make antlers?

[He tries to hide his embarrassed smile by pressing his mouth into her neck. But when she continues, he has to pull away to examine the lines on her skin as she guides his hand.]

Is that what they are? I've always wondered.

[It's a funny way to hide a smile when she can feel the way his lips are curved against her skin, but Jove isn't complaining.]

You could have asked, you know. I would have told you.

I didn't know that was all right.

It might not be for some, but you've always shown respect. I think I would know better than to feel offended if it was you doing the asking.

I'm glad. The last thing I'd want to do is offend you.

[She smiles and strokes his cheek.]

I know. That's why you'd be allowed to ask. [After a pause that has her looking only the tiniest bit torn, she continues.] If there's anything you ever want to know, you would never have to fear me being upset over it. I would like it if you felt comfortable enough to ask me anything you'd like.

[Which is a bit different than how she handled things in Thedas. As the Inquisitor she kept a number of things close to the chest, not the least of which being her feelings about her role for the Inquisition. There had been a lot she chose to never make known, fears and choices and feelings she had kept locked behind the face of the Inquisitor at all times.

But there's no way to know how long they'll be where they are now, and that gives her the chance to set aside that mask. There's no reason to keep everything to herself now and she finds she doesn't mind the idea of Cullen learning everything there is to know about her.]

Anything? [He smiles, a little reserved, even as he leans his cheek into her touch. There's a lot about her that he's wondered, but he's always hesitant to ask.

Especially as of late.
