[The bar Hange picked out is about typical for the planet: a little small, although big enough for the turnout Hange more or less expects, and clean albeit a little dingy and stained around the edges. At very least, all the stains have been scrubbed at thoroughly at some point in their history, and only the most stubborn and enterprising remain.

Stubborn and enterprising like the crew the bar will now entertain!

She's a good girl! And it seems like she's adjusting all right, all things considered. How's your crew?

I think she's going to become a very valuable crewman.

[he looks thoughtful, it not a little distracted by things moving around in the rest of the bar. he never really moves his head, but his eyes drift...]

My crew is surprisingly capable. I think I really have been hanging around cutthroats and vagrants for too long--everyone on my ship is refreshingly open and dependable.

It's tragic to hear you surprised by that. What kind of team can you have if you can't rely on your teammates? [She sits like a relaxing soldier too, like someone who's taken on a position and then had her joints melted but without feeling discomfort or needing to move. She idly swirls the moonshine in her glass.] Lucky to have moved up in the world.

And I know I have to rely on them, and trust them. That's how a team works. Ah-- [he stops the bartender and asks for a drink, please, whatever Hange is having. C:] --Anyway, it's an interesting transition, to say the least.

It sounds that way! [She sure is friendly, she comes across like a sweetie, with this open smile.] You mentioned bounty hunting before. What kind of bounties?

Oh, all kinds... [waving his hand...] Lots of monster hunting, and I specialized in exorcisms and sending ghosts and such. Sometimes it was just normal guys causing trouble, sometimes it was unlicensed mages trying to raise the dead in their basements. Depends on the day, you know?

[She makes a fart noise. She doesn't actually fart, she just makes the noise.]

More magic? Really?

That's what I say. I don't know where they keep getting it.

[...a pause...]

Oh, unless you mean from my world in general?

There's nothing magical from my world, [sort of,] and I'm a woman of science, Robin! It's all a little much to hear about.

Nonsense, there's magic in every world. Science is just quantifying its effects.

[oh sweet, his drink is here. C:]

Hahaha! [Terribly, she's just drinking this foul stuff on the rocks. Attack on Titanland doesn't do delightful mixed drinks. Lucky boy, Robin. But she laughs anyway.]

Well, thank you for that, I suppose. [In a weird way she's sincere. Still looking so sideways at all this business about ghosts but then again, aren't there monsters in her world? So.]

[he takes a sip... only winces a little as he swallows it. c-coughs. man, does this drink take him back do his days down in Tek's underground... no one there had good booze either.]

But a woman of science--that's very good. Is that the kind of work you're used to doing?

Oh, I suppose so. I do research and develop and refine weaponry, that kind of thing. [She laughs.] And I built up a lab at home. I suppose you could say we have our monsters too.

Your skillset sounds incredibly helpful. I bet you could apply it to our ships, given the time.

[he rolls his shoulders.] So! What kind of monsters do you have, then?

[She's not so sure about that, necessarily... since it's apparent that in most ways, her home is hundreds of years behind this place, technologically. Still, with the new information that's been introduced to her, maybe...?

It's worth pursuing. She wishes for her 3DMG, though.

But all of that gets pushed aside in a moment. Look at the light in her eyes. A weird and particular frisson of excited madness at the very question.]

I am so glad you asked! The monsters in my world are known as titans. They're giant humanoids, ranging from a few to sixty meters high - sixty is the outside limit of anything we've seen, at least. They devour humans mindlessly and vomit up what they've devoured once their stomachs are full! They don't rely on human flesh for sustenance; from the work I've been able to do with live specimens, it's pretty apparent they rely on sunlight to be active, although even then you can observe differences from subject to subject! Some of them run outta juice almost right away when you deprive them of sunshine, and some of them stay active for hours, so traveling at night is safer but you can't count on it too much. So, no one really knows why they eat humans. For the most part they ignore everything else. Some people think they just like the slaughter, but in my opinion they'd need to be a little more sentient for "liking" to even enter the picture.

They regenerate when they're cut or sliced. Cannons and guns are certainly a help when it comes to fighting a titan, but mostly for blinding them or throwing them off balance! Of course, different cuts to certain points can temporarily disable them but it's more a matter of downing them for minutes, at best, instead of hours. The only kill zone that we've found is the nape. With the right training, gear, and cooperation, it's possible for a human to take down a titan!

[he listens to all of this very intently, though his eyes slowly... widen... as the information just keeps going... and going... and his face starts to slide off of his hand...]

...Do you have this speech practiced, or did you really think to say all that on the fly?

Titans are my particular area of interest! [She leans... even closer to him... god she looks so happy.] They're so fascinating! So I have a lot to say about them!

Well... They do seem like strange creatures. [he... well, he doesn't lean away from her or anything....] I'm aware of very large, man-eating monsters on my world, but all of them at least follow the understood laws of nature.

How interesting! You'll have to tell me all about them sometime! Are they sentient? Can you talk to them? The first thing I do every time I get a live specimen is try to talk to it, of course, but they never answer! Haha! But there's at least one record of a titan speaking to a human, which is absolutely fascinating. As for the rest of them... maybe their mouths are too full of human for them to bother talking to us! Hahahaha!

[is that a terrible joke? yes. does he laugh anyway? yes. is it because he's a horrible person? you bet.]

How bizarre! Most of our monsters don't talk either... When they do, it's bad news.

[Hange is a hero... and a nightmare. :') Horrible jokes and the aura of having a grand time come as part of the package.

That makes her sit back, though, and she abruptly looks pretty serious.]

I'd love to be able to really talk to one of them one day...

Really? [how strange... now it's his turn to lean in, sliding across the bar...] What do you think they'd say if you could?

[Look at the grin that cracks her face open. She doesn't pull back at all.]

I'd most like to know why they're devouring humans all the time. And of course, if I had the chance to ask them where they came from in the first place...

[Even if they might not know that - she'd like to ask! She laughs a bit instead, just a little gulp of laughter.]

The devouring humans thing is a theme too. Maybe our monsters aren't so different after all...

[oh, here. he'll take a second to have a sizable amount of his drink.]
