[ Dammit Hawke at least take payments for the repair projects!! ]

[But in truth, Allen's been spending most of his time on this planet helping out with the Nunnilis trouble. It's not too surprising, Allen was always someone who tried to help the people in front of him. And with this, at least there was something positive they could do about. More positive than putting them out of their misery, anyway]

[Today, as if someone suggested he needed a break from treating patients, he's tagging along with Hawke. Which isn't so bad. He likes Hawke, and even if fire is not his most favorite thing ever - it's not like he's scared of it. Just...not all that fond of burns. They tend to suck]

[He's got a sick mask on- not trusting that these spores are completely harmless to humans. And since he's got no magical fire power to speak of- a bottle of the algae disinfectant if Hawke needs back up.]

[Though right now, he is looking at a map given to him by the locals, an "X" marking where the spotted spore collection was that they needed to go to. Allen's staring at the map, completely complexed]

Wait, isn't that east? I thought they said west...or was it another thing...?

[It should be noted, that he might be holding the map upside down.]

[ Hawke sort of opens his mouth and closes it, through some bizarre spasm of tact (no), not just taking the map. Instead he squints upward, one eye closed so as not to experience retinal death by looking directly into the sun.

He is of course wearing like ...nothing protective. It's sort of miraculous he's wearing either shirt or shoes (minimally: he's thrown on a t-shirt along with the long shorts he's been given as swimwear; also sneakers are the best invention in the world). ]

That's east. [ Indication with a forefinger, which is in fact correctly indicating east, because that's just the kind of Cub Scouty information a person amasses when they're from a time previous to like, GPS. ]

Provided that's the direction we're meant to be headed, that is. [ A beat. ] You may be reading a pam rather than a map, by the way.

[ Because it's upsided--just accept that he's hilarious, all right. ]

[He looks up, the play on words going completely over his head. The truth of the matter is, there's a reason your first mate isn't the pilot: he is truly, truly terrible at directions]

It's an upside down map, though you may be holding it sideways and I'm not sure the common tongue could pronounce that.

[ He considers, despite the silliness, an actual plan! ]

What are the odds that if we set off in any of the cardinal directions we won't find spores?

I hope that's why it doesn't make sense. Not that I'd say no to aimless wandering, but it does seem like that would cut down on our efficiency.

It'd be so much easier if I could just sense them... [Honestly, how rude of it that it dares to be a zombie spore that DOESN'T emit dark energy]

So east in that way? [Points in the way that Hawke pointed.] Then if they said west...we go, that way? [Points in close the opposite direction. And yes, he is double checking with you Hawke]

[ Understanding east and west is slightly less impressive than being able to tell time by the sun, but there's ...no indication how Thedosians do that, so please, marvel at Hawke's understanding of what is basically left and right. ]

Assuming the sun rises in the east here and everything, yes.

[ Shit, does it? Uh. Let's hope so! He sets off in a westerly fashion, 75% of how he gets anywhere being by looking confident about it. However there is one small matter to address in there, which he does while shoving a particularly low hanging swathe of greenery out of his face, then holding it up such that Allen may pass under it un...greeneried. ]

Can you usually sense fungus? That's quite a thing to put on a CV.

[ Possibly he's misunderstood just slightly, but. Only slightly. It's still weird. ]

[ Yeah he...has no clue himself about which direction the sun rises, but whatever! He'll just follow along Hawke because he seems to know where he's going. Or at least, he's better at faking it than Allen. ]

[He darts under the swathe of greenery as he replies calmly]

Not fungi, specifically. But I can sense dark matter- er, a sort of energy that's given off with very dark magics? Like necromancy and demons.

Usually I find cases like this have at least some traces of dark matter involved. But this one seems to be entirely biological in nature, not magical or demonic, so I can't sense anything.
