He cannot help but smile at her enthusiasm, and tips his head in a bow.

"Then, milady, shall we go forth and take the adventure that lies before us?"

Grinning she bows in return. "Yes... sir Maglor."

Look she doesn't know how this stuff works.

[bythewaves]

He smiles at her and offers her his arm.

He is happy here, the planet full of bright song, so young and strong and vibrant.

He is tired, so very tired, but he musn't show it, not ever, or Maedhros will worry

What if Maedhros leaves him again

What if Father falls to madness here?

No, no, he can't bear it, he musn't think about it, musn't show it, or people will worry

What would they think, if they knew....?

As soon as she takes his arm, Misty can feel all his worries and insecurities pile up behind the happiness. She blinks in surprise at first but then she squeezes his arm gently, trying to muster up all the good vibes she can send him.

Lonely, lonely, go her thoughts, a cabin deep in the swamps. But now, never alone, and neither his he.

He blinks at her in return and then ducks his head abashedly.

Sorry.

He's the weakest of his kin at skills of the mind, but no-one grows up with Galadriel and does not at the least learn how to properly school one's thoughts, and his grief and loss retreats, hidden in the fogbank of other thoughts so as not to disturb her.

Still.

Grateful

Because he is.

Undeserved.

And that comes with a flash, there and gone, of blood tarnishing a bright blade.

Misty shakes her head. He's been kinder to her than most people have in her life so it is only natural that she return that kindness.

People like Maglor are not the ones she struggles to love.

His smile is wry and he shrugs back at her.

But he won't push.

So grateful he adds shyly, and fills the connection with that feeling.

Gratefulness. Not a sentiment that many seemed to feel towards her. Brief flashes of faces from home cross the link between them: Madison who became her enemy; Joan who only grew more hateful and suspicious; Kyle who would trust no one but Zoe; a crowd with their torches and guns... time after time her gifts are rejected. So she buries herself in his gratitude and says, "I've never been very good at doing what I should."

Grief, answers her, a sorrow for losses she should not have had to bear.

(An echo, swiftly suppressed, of the dead and gone - Maedhros and Celegorm and Caranthir and Curufin and the Ambarussa, the family who left him behind)

"Perhaps - or perhaps you have always done as you should, but not as everyone else thought you ought."

"Problem is, sometimes I get the two confused."

"Nothing wrong with that, so long as you can live with yourself afterwards, I think."

"Don't think I'll get much chance to live with myself if I go back."

He starts at that, frowning.

(Fury, swiftly supressed, that any would wish harm on one so kind)

"That is ill news, milady."

Fury. When she feels that, she feels fire, flames dancing at her bound feet. But that feeling is soon replaced by another: the cold, cold sinking into Hell, her body left behind and she's trapped.

"If I could just remember - maybe then I could save myself."

[bythewaves]

Maglor pales, and the mental sense of him snarls protectively, a predator circling her to ward away her foes.

"I would you did not have to save yourself at all, lady."

She's surprised by the protectiveness, but she doesn't pull away from it either. It's just... strange, when she's always had to take care of herself.

"Don't think anyone else can do this for me. Kinda the point of the test."

[bythewaves]

"It often is." He says begrudgingly. "But it does not make me like such tests any more, nor lessen the wish to aid you."

[mistyday]

"That's there, and this is here. Nothing we can do about there and I'm happy here so you don't gotta worry about me, even if it is real sweet that you do."

[bythewaves]

"You have been kind to me, milady - offered me a smile when many offered me only rejection. I think such a light as you ought well to be preserved."

[mistyday]

Well now that makes her blush and she ducks her head. It's bad enough to get compliments from someone like Remy but from Maglor! She's still a little in awe of him and doesn't quite feel equal to him. "Thank you," is all she can think to say.

[bythewaves]

He smiles back at her and tugs her deeper into the forest, looking for the source of the Song he hears.

Misty follows willingly, feeling small snatches of the Song through him. There's a sense of welcoming about it and she'd like to hear more but she don't know if she can. Either way, she is eager to see where Maglor is leading her.

[bythewaves]

He leads her carefully, mindful of the fact that she is mortal, not elven, but they pass through the wood with surprising speed, for all that, always heading deeper.

He stops when they reach the Tree.

"Oh!"

It is Life, and it is Joy, and he heeds not the tears on his face.

The closer they get, the more she can feel it, the Song, as Maglor calls it, even if she can't hear it. The forest is filled with light and love and all sorts of good vibes, magnified by her connection to Maglor. She, too, gasps upon first sight of it.

"It's beautiful!"

[bythewaves]

"It is." He breathes and squeezes her hand, lifting his voice in answer, a joyful chorus of welcome once heard in the courts of the King when he was younger.

"Shall we go closer?"
